unable to send mails via postfix/dovecot SASL
Hello,
I have a freshly setup postfix/dovecot mail server (after a server
upgrade I decided to change my sendmail/popper conf to something more
modern :)
It mostly works, there is no problem in sending/receiving mails in local
network, both using text clients like mutt or pine dealing with the
incoming/outcoming mail directly. Also dovecot works fine with SSL
authentication from the outside

MailScanner With One vs Two Postfix Instances
An interesting point came up while recently discussing my Postfix
virtual_alias issues with the MailScanner list. Apparently there is
some risk with the "two instances of postfix" approach described in:
http://www.hughesjr.com/content/view/12/30/Guides
It sounds like Postfix and MailScanner can step on each other in the
deferred queue. They recommended the single Postfix instance

Use postfix and spamd on CentOS 6 - looking for a shortest guide
Hello fellow CentOS-users,
on the net there are lots of Spamassassin related HOWTOs - describing how
to create a shell script for Postfix and how to install Spamassassin and
start its spamd daemon - step by step. Additionally antivirus setups are
described...
But I have a strong feeling, that this is unneeded on CentOS 6 - because
there are already preconfigured stock packages for postfix and

postfix and mail origin checks
hi,
Whats the 'robust' way to make sure email to a specific destination is
only accepted if it came over the localhost:25 or /usr/sbin/sendmail
route ? anything else should get a 5xx error. Emails to other
destinations should remain unaffected.
Using postfix/c4. Had a look around, and header_checks might be one way
to go.

postmap: fatal: open database /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd.db: Permission denied
I'm trying to configure mail forwarding through Gmail
on CentOS 6 with postfix, following the blog
http://carlton.oriley.net/blog/?p=31
and I think the blog has missed the step:
# postmap /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd
- as I've seen in the /var/log/maillog:
postfix/smtp[1926]: fatal: open database /etc/postfix/sasl_passwd.db:
No such file or directory

Dovecot LDA error - Invalid -f parameter: Invalid character in path
Hi list.
I'm using dovecot as postfix's LDA. The version is 2.3.6.
Last week some spammer set the envelope's FROM to "foo at bar@domain.com"
(with two @). While trying to deliver (as this one didn't hit the
spamassassin's score), dovecot said the following:
Jun 21 02:35:58 mymailserver postfix/pipe[29736]: ADA268195E:

tls not working with postfix in chroot mode on centos4.0
hey friends,
I am trying to make postfix run with tls in chroot mode, but I am not
able to send the messages with tls on. I am using postfix 2.2.10 on
centos 4.0 and I had compiled the postfix from sources with tls &
cyrus-sasl support. I copied the certificates from /usr/share/ssl to
/etc/postfix.
Below are the errors I am getting:
May 25 13:27:51 test1 postfix/smtpd[4095]: warning: TLS

Catch-all with LMTP and Postfix
Hidy-ho,
I'm having a difficult time getting catch-all working when using Dovecot
LMTP. I would like *@example.com (everything) to go to
virtual at example.com, where virtual is a valid virtual user. It seems
that things are getting as far as LMTP, but then the mail gets bounced.
To wit:
Aug 21 08:02:50 hostname postfix/lmtp[4914]: 8DF8E9AFE6:
to=<test at example.com>,

pcre vs. regexp for Postfix checks
What are your opinions on pcre vs regexp for header_, body_, and
mime_checks in Postfix?
I looked at the regexp_table and prce_table man pages, and see
almost no difference other than the available flags.

Postfix question: How to reject email with a certain subject header
Hello everyone,
Occasionally I get emails which have a subject header of "Rejected posting
to Blah", from a listserv I am on. Without going into a 10 page diatribe
of why, I'd like to reject these automatically, sending them to /dev/null.
I used to run Sendmail and that was pretty easy to do. How can I do this
under Postfix under CentOS 5.3?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Another Postfix (or procmail ??) question
Is there a simple way to strip out what I assume is a header that asks
for a receipt that the message was delivered?
I never like to send such receipts, and they are annoying.
It mostly happens on a couple lists I'm on (not this one) - I don't just
want it for myself, I may be setting up a list soon and if soon, would
want to strip such requests out of the message before the list

Postfix on Centos3.3
Hi, as far as security advisories from Redhat I only
see the last update to Postfix being 9/2/04
2.0.16-14.RHEL3.
Centos3.3 however added a newer version that I am
currently using which matches the last 2.0 version
official release at postfix.org.

Since I am running this as my public smtp server it

CentOS 6, Postfix, and Procmail -- how do I get it to work?
What is the trick to get Postfix's local command to pipe mail through
procmail?
I have:
-bash-4.1$ grep allow_mail_to_commands /etc/postfix/main.cf
allow_mail_to_commands = alias, forward
and
-bash-4.1$ cat .forward
|/usr/bin/procmail
and a .procmailrc file:
-bash-4.1$ cat .procmailrc
PATH=/usr/bsd:/bin:/usr/bin:/exp/rcf/share/bin

Postfix user map
http://hg.dovecot.org/dovecot-2.1/rev/f562bcaca215 implements "postmap"
type sockets, which follow Postfix's tcp_table(5) protocol. So you can ask:
get user at domain
and Dovecot answers one of:
- 200 1
- 500 User not found
- 400 Internal failure
So you can use this with Postfix:
virtual_mailbox_maps = tcp:127.0.0.1:1234
With Dovecot you can enable it with:
service auth

Using deliver with postfix
Hi, I'm trying to set up dovecot 1.1.2 and postfix 2.5.4 on freebsd 7.0.
I'm getting permissions problems on auth-master and I'm not sure of the
correct settings to use.
In postfix's main.cf I have
mailbox_command=/usr/local/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d $USER
In dovecot.conf I have:
socket listen {
master {
path = /var/run/dovecot/auth-master
mode = 0660
