Renaming NIC name in CentOS 7
All,
I am trying to understand better how you give an interface a more descriptive name and get it all working without a reboot, if possible.
We have 1G and 10G interfaces, and I?m trying to use names like 1G-internal, 1G-external, 10G-private, etc. When I boot up, it?s all fine, but if I add one I?m not sure if there is a way to avoid the reboot? For example, I added the 10G interface names

Howto install Centos6/7 Comcast WA/OR
Has anyone managed to install a Centos6 or Centos7 in Washington or
Orgegon, or anywhere else that Comcast has deployed the IPV6to4
routers. The router in question is a Xfinity DCP3939 Router with
Wireless, and I'm trying to get a Centos system working behind that
router (with a wired connection), and enable SSH access from outside.
Does one have to enable both IPV6 and IPV4?
Can I

Respective Roles of NetworkManager.service and Network.service
I know folks have different opinions about Network Manager, but while researching how to change the name of a NIC without rebooting, I also came across the following page from RedHat that I?ll share as I find it?s very clear and concise explanations on how these services interact on CentOS/RHEL 7:

Remote Desktop Recommendations (2)
Folks
I'm looking for a way to access a GUI desktop on a Centos 7 server
from a Windows client. I have tried:
- X2go from EPEL (fails immediately, apparently they are working on a
solution, but...)
- Freenx (doesn't exist for EL7)
Both the above work fine with Centos 6.
I'm looking for a solution that works over the internet from
afar. My earlier posting failed to mention this.

Problems with x2go
I have installed x2goserver on a Centos8 server.
Yesterday, after the installation I was able to connect by means of
x2go. Today I get the following error ( /var/log/messages)
/usr/bin/x2gostartagent[2677]: no free display number available, cannot
start new session.
Has anyone had the same problem?
Thanks.
Bye

X2go server on Centos7, any success?
Folks
I have been unable to get X2go to work on a Centos 7 server. I have
tried both the out-of-the-box GNOME desktop and the Xfce as well.
In both cases, the view from the client is that the screen starts to
appear, then goes away. On the server, I see the following messages
in /var/log/messages (I have erased the user name and replaced it
with XXX). The server is running as a virtual

I am using CentOS on a private network which can?t access the Internet so I want to create a local repository of packages on one or more DVDs, and get it installed on the private network. Someone had done this for CentOS 7, but not for CentOS 6. I have a VM running 6 so I am trying to create it for the previous major version. I thought there would be some obvious instructions on the

Annoying license at install
Folks
I have several remotely-located servers, donated by folks not all of
whom are computer geeks, let-alone Linux aware. In earlier versions
of Centos, I directed them to perform a minimal NetInstall (not too
difficult to direct over the phone), and then issue two commands
after the first boot. One was a 'curl' to download a script of mine,
and the second was a dot-command to run

problem using do.call and substitute for predict.glm using poly()
Hi
I am having a particular problem with some glm models I am running. I
have been adapting code from Bill Venables 'Programmers niche' in RNews
Vol 2/2 to fit ca. 1000 glm models to a combination of species 0/1 data
(as Y) and related physicochemical data (X), to automate the process of
fitting this many models. I have successfully managed to fit all the
models and have stored the

OpenSSH 3.6.1p1 on NCR MP-RAS v4.3, several weird terminal problems
I compiled OpenSSH 3.6.1p1 on NCR MP-RAS v4.3 (or at least
"uname -a"'s output of 4.0.3.0 suggests v4.3, I'm not positive).
I was able to compile zlib (1.1.4) and openssl (0.9.7a) with little
trouble.
OpenSSH took hand-hacking the includes.h file as follows:
diff -cr openssh-3.6.1p1/includes.h openssh-3.6.1p1-customized/includes.h

After downloading r-base_2.10.0.orig.tar.gz and opening the archive. I
ran the ./configure routine.
