cant swith to text mode consoles
After installing xfce I switched to runlevel 5 to have a graphic login.
But The login box (and xfce) doesnt let me switch to text consoles with
ctrl+alt+F key. Also, xfce is the desktop for root, but for normal user
still is an ugly windows manager.

Default X manager
Hi,
I've installed XFCE via yumgroup without problem.
If I boot in runlevel 3 and run X with startxfce4 command all works ok
too, but if If I start the system in runlevel 5, it seems the X default
X manager is always twm.
?How can I setup the default X manager?
TIA.

xfce on CentOS 7: can't lock screen
Ok, trying to bypass the usual flames (I used CDE for years, then
KDE until it got dumbed-down too much, and we all know how GNOME
has turned out) ... I've decided to try out xfce on CentOS 7.
I grabbed xfce from epel by installing the following via yum:
epel-release
@xfce
So far it's pretty good, and is giving me the basic features I'm looking
at without getting in my way.

only root can use xwindows
After testing runlevel 5 i noticed that I cant switch to text consoles.
So I went back to runlevel 3, but now normal users cant use graphic
environment. I just got a black screen and an error message: Xlib:
connection refused by server, Protocol unsupported by server
root can start xfce normally.
Any idea about whats happenning?

Independent dual monitors on CentOS 7
Does anyone have the magic incantation required to getting
*independent* multi-monitors going under CentOS 7? Ideally
under xfce or trinity, but I'm interested about GNOME/KDE
observations as well.
I'm trying to move my main workstation from CentOS5 to CentOS7
and while the spanned desktop works, not having independent
monitors really cuts into my productivity. i.e.: I couldn't

C7 Xfce group
I am working with Centos-arm which right now only has the gnome and kde
desktops.
I am spoiled with using Xfce on all my Fedora systems (MUCH longer
battery life on my notebook, for example).? I like its simplicity.
I see from messages here that mainline C7 does have the Xfce desktop.
Can someone give me a list of rpms that make up the group, so I can try
starting with the minimal image and

CentOS 7 and xfce
I finally have got around to installing centos 7 and usually do a
pretty minimal installation, I chose the virtualization host, since
that will be the primary purpose. However I have hit a snag, I
usually install xfce from epel and go along my way but there appears
to be a bug in the xfce package:
Error: Package: xfdesktop-4.10.2-2.el7.x86_64 (epel)

Strange problem with CentOS 7 and guest additions in VirtualBox
Hi,
I'm having a very weird problem with CentOS as a VirtualBox guest. Let
me explain it step by step.
tl;dr: I can install VirtualBox Guest Additions and configure a
fullscreen 1280x1024 graphical resolution on a full install, but not on
a reduced install with a lightweight window manager.
Here's what I did.
1. Install vanilla CentOS 7 with KDE.
2. Boot to reduced 1024x768

C6 and xfce
Hi, folks,
So I installed xfce on my Netbook. While I was in Chicago, I worked out
how to tell it to bring it up. It came up.
As root. With no obvious way to tell it to show a login screen first.
Did I miss something?

XFCE-Terminal can't display latin1 encoding
Hi,
Much of my work consists in connecting to the MySQL monitor on our
public library database server and working in it. Until recently, I've
been using either Gnome-Terminal in GNOME, or Konsole in KDE. Since all
the systems, both server and clients, default to fr_FR.UTF-8, and MySQL
uses a default latin1 charset, I usually switch the displayed charset
within Gnome-Terminal or Konsole.
