Gluster+NFS as VM datastore for ESXi - issues
Hi all, I've been trying out Gluster Platform, so some info will be from the management interface. If additional data from logs is required, please let me know which logfiles. When using a Gluster NFS volume as a ESXi datastore, creation of a disk file (vmdk) takes a considerable amount of time (with unfsd using 10-50% cpu) and then crashes unfsd. A reboot of the system seems necessary to

Hi, Does anyone have glusterfs as vmware datastore working in production in a real world case? How to serve the glusterfs cluster? As iscsi, NFS? creating a floppy image from a linux file
Hi, I am still trying to get kick-start centos in my vmware5 because pxe cannot find the pxe server. I do not control the dhcp or pxe server. I have both my kickstart file and my iso image for centos6.5 on my vmware datastore, but am trying to run my kickstart file from VMware guest. Can I tell the command line to run from the datastore in VMWare? Or must I convert my kickstart file to a

glustefs as vmware datastore in production
Nice to read this. Any particular reason to *not* run the OS image in glusterfs cluster? Install nested ESXi 6.x host under CentOS 7 kvm host
Hi all, I am trying to install nested Esxi 6.x under a Centos7 kvm host to use it as test lab for new ESXi versions, but I am doing something wrong because I can't install it. I have configured kvm and kvm_intel modules with the following options: options kvm ignore_msrs=1 options kvm_intel nested=1 ept=1 and I add the following options in <cpu> xml guest file: <cpu

access VMX config on esxi with virsh
Hi, Is virsh able to access the VMX config of a virtual machine running on a esxi host? I would like to take backups of my virtual machine configs and the doku section "Converting from VMware VMX config to domain XML config" (http://libvirt.org/drvesx.html) comes close to this - but does not tell how to get access to the vmx file. I would prefer a solution where ssh access to the

VMWare as Xen VM
Hi, I am trying to install Vmware (Exsi 4.0) as a VM on Xen (VM-on-VM). My platform is Intel S5500HC motherboard and Xeon E5502 processor, 4G Ram. Xen 3.4.1, dom0 is linux 2.6.31.6 pv_ops kernel on FC12. The Vmware installation was failing with "Failed to load lvmdriver" error. On modifing the network model to e1000 (vif = [''type=ioemu, bridge=xenbr0, model=e1000'' ])

Live Recording on the Storage Server?
Hello, I am wondering has anyone used Live Recording (monitor or mixmonitor) on to Storage Server via network 1 Gigabit connection? Does it perform well, let say about 50 live recordings at the same time. I am planning to make some system changes at work. I would like to put Asterisk VM on a ESXi host and the datastore will be hosted on Storage Server. On a ESXi host, there will be a few

Virtualization platform choice
Some may be bored with the subject - sorry... Still not decided about virtualization platform for my "webhotel v2" (ns, mail, web servers, etc.). KVM would be a natural way to go, I suppose, only it is too bad CentOS 6 will not be out in time for me - I guess KVM would be more mature in CentOS 6. Any experience with the free "VMware vSphere Hypervisor"?. (It was formerly

Re: Error while starting the node on ESXi hypervisor
Thanks a ton for the reply Matthias. I am little confused here. How to add volume on my esx server using virsh? I did SCP and copied my vmdk image to [datastore1] testNode/cluster.vmdk and also modified my xml file as you suggested. Now when I tried starting the node it gave me an error message saying: "error: Failed to start testNode error: internal error: Could not start domain:

Live Recording on the NAS?
Hi, I am planning to move Asterisk from physical server to a VM on a ESXi host. VMware datastore / VM's will be stored on the shared storage on the NAS (NSF). I might get Synology NAS. Do you store call live recording on the NAS? There would be around 60 concurrent calls recording at the same time and it may cause network bottleneck. There will be other VM's stored on the NAS like

Puppet on busybox, Bob Hope or No Hope?
When I say busybox it''s actually VMware ESX server which seems to use busybox (which I guess is the case a number of other software appliances) . Reason for wanting to install puppet is to run the cli tools to create nightly vmware snapshots. I''m happy to give it a go (and add the docs to the wiki) but I''m not too sure at this stage how big a task this might be and what,

Virtualization - what do You recommend?
Hi All. I plan to use virtualization in my production environment. I plan to use one of the following options: - KVM; - VMWare Esxi; - VMWare Workstation. I plan to install Windows 2008 as a guest. I want to use something like LVM snapshots for backups. Stability is also very important, the guest will be used as a production server. Which option could You recommend and why? Thank You very much

glustefs as vmware datastore in production
Sometimes os disk hang occured and re-mounted with ro in vm guest(centos6) when storage was busy. After install vmware plugin, increased block response timeout to 30 sec. But os workload reponse time was not good. I guess my system composed with 5400 rpm disks with raid6. Overall storage performance is not good for multiple os images. best regards. Convert a locally stored copy of an esxi virtual machine to libvirt using virt-v2v?
Hi, Is there a way to use a locally stored copy of an exsi created virtual machine to convert to libvirt via virt-v2v? I don't want to have to download the image from the esxi server each time I run virt-v2v as that copy takes a long time. Perhaps I'm just missing the command line option. What I would like to do is copy the image manually to the virt-v2v server and work on it locally
