VNC vs GNOME desktop
I'm trying to use VNC to connect my home Centos box (up to date centos 5) to my Centos 4 (also up to date) at work. I have no problem connecting. The problem occurs after logging in, for every applet in the bottom Gnome panel I get an error box from which I can choose to remove the applet from the panel, or just go on. I choose to not delete but to just go on. After I get a half dozen or so of

wiki - vnc -gerald and walsh, update?
To GeraldClark and PjWelsh, I have centos 6 and used your guide to get it going with vnc. First of all thanks for putting that up, so many techs told me I did not have to install a desktop to make it work and they were so wrong. http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server Using centos 6 I found some differences and wanted to post them here to see if anything helps clear it all up. I acutally

Hi Jerry, I done a lot of search in google. Than I find your post, but without success for my problem. I have add your xstartup file. But I can't get it working with this startupfile. Maybe you can have a look at my logfile and my configuration for

I know with vnc you can access virtual desktops, but is there a way to view the current desktop on a kde session? I tried changing the .vnc/xstartup and added the startkde & at the end to get the gui working, but can only get virtual desktops to show. or if there is a different software to use that someone else might know about. Hi, I have a remote frontend (it's kept in the room which I don't have access) which is installed with CentOS 4 and Rocks . So, to use the desktop(Gnome) of the frontend I use the freenx + nomachine following the guide in http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?forum=20&topic_id=1640&viewmode=threaded. It worked. Then, I intended to add user, but I couldn't create the

答复: CentOS 7 docs, tutorials, etc...
Perhaps RHEL/CentOS 7 are something different, however, they just change a little, their base used are similar. On a gnome desktop, if you want to add a shortcut to the desktop, you can reference xxx.desktop in /usr/share/application/ , than write some similar xxx. desktop which you prefer and cp to the desktop directory ? it's really useful.. ------------------------ Best wishes -----------

How can I make these command prompt settings into universal settings?
I've got it so that I can enable Japanese input into an application by typing the following at a command prompt (with FireFox, for example): [dave at localhost ~]$ kinput2 -canna & [1] 10631 [dave at localhost ~]$ XMODIFIERS='@im=kinput2' LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.utf8 firefox However, I would rather not have to type in all that craziness each time I want to start an application. xterm clones on VNC problem
I've been scratching my head over this one after setting up VNC on another existing server. Followed the instructions here http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/VNC-Server as usual. It worked initially. However since this server is going to be installed in a rather inconvenient place and having done pretty stupid things before, I decided for the first time to try the portion that says # Add the

a-gnome-oyences
Most of my users are on kde, as am I (I really don't like gnome). I've got one on gnome, though, CentOS 6.4, and I have a problem: I have to start an agent running ->on login<-, so that the same one is in the environment of every term window he opens. In kde, no problem, I modify /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common so that code in there calls our (newer) ssh-agent instead of the stock one.
