Is kvm ready for prime time?
Hi all, I've started playing with kvm on CentOS 5.5, with not much success so far. In a nutshell, I have the same problem as http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-virt/2010-April/001854.html I followed the RHEL5 virtualization guide to set up a bridge interface br0, and then used virt-install (rather than virt-manager - I like automation) to set up the vm. It hangs at some point.

Little's Chi Square test for MCAR?
Hi. Can anyone point me to any module in R which implements "Little's Chi Square test" for MCAR. The problem is that i have around 60 behavioural variables on a 6 point categorical scale which i need to test for MCAR and MAR. What i can make out from preliminary analysis is that moderate (0.30 to 0.60) correlations may be present in several variable pairs leading me to suspect

Dynamic Home Shares
Hello, I am attempting to dynamically create user shares when they connect to the server based on their username. I cannot use [homes]. My reasoning for this is that the users require a $ at the end of the share or it becomes confusing to them(long story). What I'm seeing is that some Windows XP clients will connect to /home/<username> but other clients try to connect to

auth. username rewriting?
Hello, Now, I'm faced with a problem: I need to be able to login using the same username that I bind against using ldapsearch, and not the sAMAccountName given to me via winbind. ie. to login using one of my AD usernames right now, I issue: su - ADSDOMAIN+username1 but the binddn I use to search the ldap directory is, say, username2: ldapsearch -x -W -D"username2"

Boot failure after install on IBM x3550 M3
I'm trying to install CentOS 5.5 on a couple of servers of type IBM System x3550 M3, but it's not going too well. Actually, the install setup phase runs as expected, and the actual installation also appears to be successful, but the system will not boot - I just get a message (presumably) from BIOS saying that boot from hard disk 0. If I start the installer again after this, or boot

Softoken II issues during install
Hi, I'm trying to run Softoken II in wine but having very little success. When installing using the softoken msi file it doesn't seem to get as far as it does on a windows machine. But there still seems to be some part of the install completed as I can run Softoken exe afterwards, although it gives me problems. I run the msi using: Code: wine start softoken/setup.msi And I get the

Installing FreeBSD 9.1 amd64 on IBM x3550 M3
Hello, I'm trying to install FreeBSD 9.1 amd64 on an IBM x3550 M3 server. Installation went smoothly, RAID controller and network cards were successfully recognised. But, after the installation, the server fails to boot from disk. There were some posts, about two years ago, in this list implying that the problem lies in UEFI but I couldn't find any clear solution. Any suggestions would

Unable to boot xen dom0 on IBM System x3250
I have an IBM System x 3250 that successfully boots using the standard kernel (2.6.18-8.1.10.el5) but fails to boot with the xen kernel. The kernel appears to fail when it attempts to initialize the driver for the onboard SAS controller (LSI Logic / Symbios Logic SAS1064E PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS). Can anyone provide any advice? IBM ServeRAID M5014 and CentOS 5.5
Hi all, we are about to buy some IBM x3550 M2 servers with ServeRAID M5014 SAS onboard controller. Can anyone confirm that these controllers will work with CentOS 5.5 (seems to be some rebranded LSI controller). I cannot find any hint in the 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 sources... Suggestions for partition
The recent thread on Anaconda and RAID10 made me start to think about how to partition a server I'm about to set up. I have two 146GB SCSI drives on an IBM x3550. It will be used as a build system. As such, there is no critical data on these systems, as the source code will be checked out of our source control system, and the build results are copied to another system. I usually

Training nnet in two ways, trying to understand the performance difference - with (i hope!) commented, minimal, self-contained, reproducible code
Dear all, Objective: I am trying to learn about neural networks. I want to see if i can train an artificial neural network model to discriminate between spam and nonspam emails. Problem: I created my own model (example 1 below) and got an error of about 7.7%. I created the same model using the Rattle package (example 2 below, based on rattles log script) and got a much better error of about
