R-help
I have been trying to write a function for the following problem: Suppose I have three vectors a,b,c of different lengths: e.g. a=c(a1,a2,a3,...) where a[i] form the basis of our function variables: if we define a table for example: and define the fn(x) <-function{..sum(argument)..} where x<-c(a,b,c) so that we can maximise fn(x) as:

Read the data from a text file and reshape the data
I have a data set for different time intervals. The data has three comment lines before data for each time interval. For each time interval there are 500 data points. I want to change the dataset such that I have the following format: t1 t2 t3 ................ 0.00208 0.00417 0.00625 ................. a1 a2 a3 ...................

SSH and root access from limited hosts
This is blanket access for root from any host with valid keys (and password) - I want to limit that access to 4 hosts no matter what keys or passwords are provided/used. I have looked at shosts.equiv but this doesn't stop other hosts being allowed. I have also looked at "AllowUsers root at host1 root at host2 ..." but this also means including every user we have for all other

Specification decisions in glm and lmer
I have been reviewing GLM and LMER to sharpen up some course notes and would like to ask for your advice. 1. Is there a test that would be used to check whether a particular functional form--say Gaussian, Gamma, or Inverse Gaussian, is "more appropriate" in a Generalized Linear Model? A theoretical reason to choose one over the other is enough for me, but I've got some skeptical

A lens for mucking with puppet content / modules
Hi All, I had a thought - while I was saying that I would like for all my modules to be ''taged'' x - does augeas have a lens that would allow me to say. Use CASE: If I have comments where I have ''tagged'' my modules, could I loop though, look at the comments, if I find <pattern>, add the label to the class. More generally, this may lead to thoughts of

Procmail wiki text -- don't muck with SENDMAIL
I tried to edit http://wiki2.dovecot.org/procmail but got stuck on the TextCha. Approaching this list instead seems to be a time-tested secondary approach, and I wasn't completely comfortable making these changes without discussion anyway. So here goes. The SENDMAIL= assignment is not only irrelevant, but actually wrong. The note down in the update section about Ubuntu explains the problem

Software RAID muck up
Hi, I hope someone can help. Just started to play with software RAID on Centos 3.5 and was trying to simulate a faulty drive by using the -f switch on mdadm to mark the partition (drive) as faulty and I then I removed and readded the drive, which quit happily rebuilt according the /proc/mdstat and the output from the --detail switch of mdadm. After all this mucking around I shutdown the

repeat a function
Hi Petr, Many thanks for your response. Basically I want to create a probability matrix to be used in a trinomial tree going forward. This is the reason why I thought to build the matrix around 0 would be much more efficient. I need to loop through because the probabilities will depend on my node and is not always the same per row (e.g. if N> jmax, jmax being defined in another function) I
