USRMGR, groups, and ldap
I currently have samba version 3.0.23 installed using ldap as the
backend. I am experiencing the same problems as Holger Wesser mentioned
in his posting "USRMGR.exe not working properly". However, it appears
that the fix of creating the group mappings does not work. They appear
to be mapped correctly on my setup. My net groupmap list is:

Yum update corrupted something badly - can only get access through SSH terminal or Webmin
Hey there -
This morning I ran the yum updater through Webmin as I do every month
or so - after about two hours I realized that I still had the same
updating screen going - and no response. Seemed strange.
Simple attempts to kill it didn't work so I sent a command to reboot
the system - that seemed to work, till I turned on the monitor
directly connected to the server -
I saw this

which programming language for server-side admin tasks
Hi,
I would like to spend some time learning a new coding language, but
specifically for server side admin stuff, i.e. setting up users / databases
/ FTP accounts / virtual domains on Apache, etc.
I already know PHP, but realize it's not quite suited for this kind of
admin, and I suppose I need to look @ PERL / Python / C++ / Ruby? / others?
Can someone give me some pointers on this?

GUI Login Screen for CentOS 5
I installed CentOS using the option for a GUI Server with GRUB and GNOME. When it boots it
stops at a text login screen, which is not desirable in our setup. I want it to start at the
GUI login screen and not have to press 'Ctrl Alt F7' to bring this screen up.
I thought this was controlled by /etc/inittab but it is setup correctly for runlevel 5. How
can I correct this setup?

how to troubleshoot GUI issue?
Hello,
I'm using a recent install of centos 7, no GUI customizations that I
recall. When I log in using the GUI it accepts my password and the mouse
appears on a black screen, like it is preparing the desktop, but the
desktop never appears. If I hit control-alt-f4 and log in using the command
line, and then execute startx, Everything seems to work perfectly.
What sort of troubleshooting

Is BIND In CentOS 5.0 Broken?
Hi,
I've just isntalled CentOS 5.0 in my machine; selected DNS server during the
selection process.
After the completing the installation, I wanted to configure my DNS server
but it seemed that /etc/named.conf and other stuffs in
/var/named/chroot/var/named directory are not
there (i.e., *.zone, *.local, etc).
Can anyone give me idea? This is the first time that I've tried CentOS; used

Configuring bind
I'm new to Centos and am in the process of building a new server.
On my test box, I've installed CentOS v5 x86_64.
When starting bind for the first time I found that named.conf and
various zone files where missing.
I installed named.conf along with localdomain.zone, localhost.zone,
named.broadcast, named.ca, named.ip6.local, named.local, named.zero
along with a couple test domains.

Bind configuration
Hi everyone,
I know this is probably the wrong forum to ask this question, but is
there someone who has a working BIND configuration file that they are
willing to share.
Thanks.

AW: Problems with installation
ok - I tried this too. But CentOS tries to find the floppy as /dev/hda which
is not the device for the USB-Floppy. Dell ships one with the server because
no one is integrated. So when I try to include the driver disk the installer
is not able to find it.

BIOS upgrade side effects
Are there any possible undesirable effects of a BIOS upgrade? The worst I
can think of is something that would change my SATA drives from being
mapped as SCSI to being mapped as IDE.

bind zone files graphical management tool
On a server that does not have a gui, only command line.
In the past I have used webmin, and was happy with it, but it is more
than I really need.
I COULD rsync the files to my notebook and maintain them there. Probably
should just for backup!
But is there anything else that is 'safe' to use. vi gets tiring after
a while.

Kickstart install surprise
I have to say that I was more that a bit surprised, if not to say dismayed
when I booted a system with CentOS 5 installed to test a kickstart CD in
interactive mode, took it to the custom partitioning screen, then rebooted
without saving anything only to come up with a grub prompt, and the disk's
partition table wiped. The ks.cfg file did say to wipe the disk when
installing, but I would

net vampire and WIn2003 AD
Hello Samba People,
it is my first letter to Samba ML, so first of all - thanks Samba team for a
great SW.
Now the question:
I want to migrate from Win2003 AD to Samba 3.3.2. I want to use net vampire
feature to import all account information (is there any other way to do
it?). Net vampire works partly - in the direct meaning of this word - it is
importing only 131 objects. How come?

Slackware's 'explodepkg' equivalent for rpm?
Hi,
Is there any 'explodepkg' equivalent for the rpm command? What I want is
simply uncompress an RPM package to get the files directly, but I didn't
find anything in rpm's manpage.
Cheers,
