Windows XP cannot join Samba 4AD but win 7 can.
Hello everybody, I've got some troubles making Win XP join may samba4 AD, and, well, i'm kind of stuck ! I use the binary distribution of Samba 4 for Ubuntu Trusty Server (4.1.6), with bind9 DLZ as a DNS backend. Everything works fine with Win7 workstations, but I get a message "Internal Error" on Win XP workstation during the domain join. The machine account is created on

Authenticating other services against AD - PAM and Postgres - dedicated user
Hi! I've got a samba4 pdc, fileserver and whatnot running now for a few months, a number of users logs in there daily, everyone seems quite happy about it going. I've migrated my environment from samba3 NTdomain, where I had LDAP backend for users and I used that to authenticate other services against it: like pam on other servers and postgres DBs. I have succesully managed to do this as

Can't join machine without full access
Sernet samba 4.2.2 in ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, a fresh migration from samba 3 (I'm still in the testing phase). I'm experimenting with task delegation. Using the ADUC wizard, I select the "Join machine to domain" task to add to my userid (I also tried a group I'm a member of with the same result), at the domain level (rough translation, this is on a localized windows 7). Adding

Variable substitution for profile paths in ADUC
Hi, I'm in the process of migrating from a Samba 3.4 NT4 Domain to a a Samba 4.1.6 AD domain. The profile paths (logon path) in the old domain were specified using the %U, %m and %a variable substitutions. In fact, there was one profile per user and per client machine. I would like to migrate all profiles. Is it possible to use similar substitutions for the profile path setting in ADUC? Using

vfs_recycle and permissions
Hi, at our site we are using Samba 4.1.8 as an AD controller and on another machine as member server and all is working fine so far. Now I want to provide recycle repositories for some shares on the member server, so I set vfs objects = acl_xattr recycle recycle:keeptree = yes in the corresponding share sections in smb.conf on the member server. The problem is that the subdirectories created in

Hi, in our Samba 4.1.6 AD setup (a Controller and a Member Server), the only remaining error messages are similar to the following three in log.samba on the Controller: *** 1 *** [2014/04/17 15:28:54.647621, 0] ../source4/dns_server/dns_utils.c:282(dns_replace_records) Deleting record failed; 50 *** 2 *** [2014/04/18 09:10:12.046449, 0]

Running an NT4 PDC and an ADC side by side
Dear List, I'm planning to migrate an existing Samba 3.4.7 NT4-domain (our.site.com) to a Samba 4.1.6 AD-domain (ad.our.site.com) on another machine. Our site currently has about 30 clients and 50 user accounts. My plan is to setup the ADC on the other machine and to migrate the user accounts using the Samba4 classicupgrade tool. I would then newly setup groups, permissions, etc. on the new

Hello, at our site we're using the revision control software Mercurial. A typical workflow scenariao is that we have a Mercurial repository on a Samba AD Member share and the users pull and push commits to this central repository. This workflow is broken as of Samba 4.3.4. When doing certain operations (pull or push) on the central repository on the Samba share, Mercurial complains that it

ignoring malformed3 datagram packet
Hi, after quite some testing I do now have my Samba4 setup in production use. The setup mainly consists of an AD-Controller and an AD Member Server which provides file shares to about 20 Windows 7 clients. Everything is working well so far except for two somewhat 'special' clients. For these I observe the following: 1) On the AD Member Server periodically (every hour) appears a message in

Administrative users on domain
Back in January we upgraded/moved our domain from an old install of samba and openldap to a newer version (samba 3.5.10 and openldap 2.4.23) while also moving our domain to a new name. On the old domain, which was setup before I got here, our IT section was in an ldap group that allowed us to join PC's to the domain and when the prompt came up in windows to install software we could log in as

Problems 4.2 installing on Windows?
I keep an old Windows machine around for making sure that RedCloth Win32 binary gems install. When I try gem update RedCloth, it just installs 4.1.9. Did I do something wrong in the gemspec? Would someone else with a windows machine try it and let me know how it goes? Jason

I was permitted too. But you were faster. :-) Possibly it's also worth to mention here: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_management_from_windows I don't have a computer right now and it's difficult/not so comfortable to edit with a mobile. Is there something similar to ADUC in Samba?
I have a follow up to the question I asked and found a work around for today. Is there any tool in samba used to manipulate RFC2307 aka NIS Extensions that do not involve manipulating the ldap tree with a ldapmodify or directly editing the sam database with ldbedit? I see in the samba wiki that there is https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Using_RFC2307_on_a_Samba_DC that says ADUC can be used from
