PHP ldap_start_tls
I have samba4 4.1.9 on ubuntu 14.04 and I am trying to connect with phpldapadmin. Problem seems to be with the start tls and that PHP ldap_start_tls doesn't like self signed certificates that are not in the local ca. The samba certs are in /var/lib/samba/private/tls. Does php ldap_start_tls use /etc/ldap/ldap.conf ? # TLS certificates (needed for GnuTLS) TLS_CACERT

Getent Differences on a DC and a Member Server
Hi David, > Just to clarify, is it only the DC that doesn't return desired values of HomeDirectory and Shell? Yes, it is only the DC that doesn't pull HomeDirectory and Shell via rfc2307. (when using winbindd) Member servers with winbindd do pull the desired values without problems, I have it setup like this and it works without problems. I have only two ideas to solve your problem:

Getent Differences on a DC and a Member Server
Hi, I know there've been some workarounds on this topic, however I'm missing the reason for winbind to behave differently on a DC and on a member server (I also had to work around that problem and I'd really like it fixed). If there's a technical reason for it, it'd be nice to know about it. If there isn't, then it's just a bug that should be fixed. Could someone of

Upgrade From 4.0.16 To 4.0.17+ Breaks
G'day Guys, I've hit a snag. After using S4 from Alpha, beta, rc, 4.0.1..16 with success, I wanted to upgrade to the 4.1 series. However, after compiling, installing, and provisioning, with no errors, samba4 won't start correctly. I did a few tests by installing from scratch, on the same server each of the following versions (4.0.17, 4.0.18, 4.0.19, and 4.1.9), and got the same

Getent Differences on a DC and a Member Server
Hi David, I experienced this issue as well, it's currently a limitation of Samba 4.2.2. Samba 4.2.2 DCs do not support pulling home directories and login shells from AD via rfc2307. I solved this issue with the "template homedir" and "template shell" directives. You lose some flexibility but at least it works. Excerpt from my DC smb.conf: winbind nss info =

Support of NTFRS, SYSVOL replication and DFS-R
When does File Replication using NTFRS or DFS-R will be availabe? Does anybody already work on this item? Here would be some first documentation for this team in case it hasn't started yet: - NTFRS: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc759297(v=ws.10).aspx - SYSVOL replication: http://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/library/dd640019(v=ws.10).aspx - NTFRS migration to DFS-R:

Documenting related data sets
Say I want to include the data from Minard's march on Moscow graphic in a package. They consist of three data frames, Minard.troops, Minard.cities, Minard.temp. I've determined that I can document them all in one .Rd file, Minard.Rd, that starts: \name{Minard} \Rdversion{1.1} \alias{Minard} \alias{Minard.cities} \alias{Minard.troops} \alias{Minard.temp} \docType{data} \title{ Data

Weird errors with R CMD check/ggplot2 in examples: how to debug?
[Environment: WinXp, R 2.9.2, all packages up to date; building under (StatET 0.8, eclipse 3.5.1) or from a batch file] I'm in the process of creating a package, HistData, on R-forge, containing interesting data sets from the history of statistics and data visualization. It contains several examples that use ggplot2, which I've declared as a Suggests: in the DESCRIPTION file. The

Unix Attributes - Issues, Questions
G'day All, I'm new to AD and the following things are causing issues trying to integrate our existing unix based infrastructure into AD. I may well be doing something wrong or just missing something, but I'm going to ask anyway. I'm stuck. We've been running Apple's OD (LDAP, Kerberos, and some Apple magic) with samba3 for years. With W7+ we need AD to

Getent Differences on a DC and a Member Server
G'day All, I'm running Centos 7, Samba4.2.2. (SSSD is NOT running (not even installed on the Member Server)) /etc/nsswitch on both: passwd: files winbind group: files winbind the winbind libs have been sym-linked as described in the tiki. All seems to be working well on both the DC and Member Server. Both smb.fonfs have: idmap config *:backend = tdb idmap

Minard's Challenge: Re-Visioning Minard Contest
In a recent talk ('Visions of the Past, Present & Future of Statistical Graphics'), I talked about, among other things, the lessons Minard's March on Moscow graphic had for modern statistical graphics, and illustrated aspects of power and simplicity in several programming languages where this graphic had been recreated. I referred to 'elegance factors' of various

Replication Failure Issue
Hai, Very important things are missing here in this one.. smb.conf Samba from sources or os provided? In case of last, centos 7.1 to 7.4 is samba 4.1.12 to 4.6.2 https://wiki.centos.org/Manuals/ReleaseNotes/CentOS7 Various packages have been rebased. Some of those are openLDAP, samba, .... And yes, as Carlos suggested, do check your firewalling also. Maybe samba didnt change but

Effect of setting "store dos attributes = no" in Samba 4.1.11
Thanks for your help and replies. Yes, I meant "store dos attributes". It's pretty clear now that I need to keep the parameter 'store dos attributes=no' since 1) the server is an AD member server and 2) the map* parameters don't do the right thing under ZFS / NFSV4 ACLs. I've read that the steps Klaus Hartnegg listed resolves the issue on ZFS on Linux; however, I

winbind: homeDirectory being ignored
Something strange here. User created using: root at dc1:~# samba-tool user add user7 Abcd1234 --uid-number=1007 --home-directory=/home/user7 --login-shell=/bin/bash User 'user7' created successfully I can see the homeDirectory attribute in the entry. But the home directory that winbind returns is just the template one: root at adclient:~# getent passwd user7
