"Master privileges unavailable on UPS" after upgrade to Debian Lenny
Hi all, I've just upgraded my debian box from etch to lenny, and am now having Nut problems. I have read through the UPGRADING text (which helped fixed my first ups driver related problem), but have now hit another problem, which seems quite common, but non of the responses I've found on Google apply, so I'm coming to you for help. On issuing a "/etc/init.d/nut start"

Patch to make sshd work on multihomed systems
As far as I know this patch has no security implications -- I don't believe that allowing sshd to use get_local_name() (in canohost.c) on a connected socket to determine it's own fqdn will allow a malicious client (or router or dns server) to make it come to the wrong conclusion. But please let me know if you think I'm wrong. Please also let me know if you're just not interested

RfE: use HOSTNAME environment variable in hostpid_init()
Hi, All parts of dovecot except deliver uses the result of hostpid_init() in src/lib/hostpid.c as a hostname which only asks gethostname(). deliver honours environment variable HOSTNAME in src/deliver/deliver.c: getenv("HOSTNAME"); and uses the hostname of hostpid_init() as a fallback. Wouldn't it be consequent to evaluate the environment variable HOSTNAME in hostpid_init()

openssh-3.1p1 on GNU/Hurd
Hi, I've gone and ported the latest version of openssh, 3.1p1, to GNU/Hurd. I've tried to learn from the other threads on this topic, but I still had to get rid of MAXHOSTNAMELEN where I could. [patch] ssh.c load_public_identity_files calls getpwuid twice without copy
Hi, getpwuid is called as seen in the patch, and is then called again indirectly by tilde_expand_filename without first copying off the results from the first call. This is fatal on MacOSX (and it would seem it should be fatal elsewhere, too). Please CC me in replies; I'm not a subscriber. --- openssh-4.4p1/ssh.c 2006-09-01 22:32:40.000000000 -0700 +++ openssh-4.4p1-fix/ssh.c

Enhanced Kerberos support
The recent addition of auth_gssapi_hostname is a welcome addition, but a little more is needed for multi-homed (or multi-domained) sites. SSH recently added this enhancement to address this common need: GSSAPIStrictAcceptorCheck Determines whether to be strict about the identity of the GSSAPI acceptor a client authenticates against. If ?yes? then the client must

Replacing of non-alphanumeric chars in Name can be confusing
Tinc replaces non-alphanumeric characters in the `Name` field of tinc.conf by '_' (see [1] and [2]). This includes hyphens ('-'), which are often used in host names. That is quite surprising, and can easily lead to misconfigurations, especially because there doesn't seem to be a warning if you configure `Name = node-1`, and on the other machines the host file

Introduction This case introduces the SMF services used by a Solaris-based domain 0 when running on Xen, or a Xen-compatible hypervisor. All of these services only run on domain 0 when booted under Xen virtualisation.

gssapi auth issue...
Hi all-- been away from the list for a few weeks so forgive me if this problem has been reported-- with the help of some of our Kerberos engineers, we tracked down why we can't authenticate our Solaris kerberos clients to Dovecot. Here's the deal: Our IT organization issued us kerberos tickets of the form imap at foobar.sfbay.sun.com Which I presume is their standard-- and

Can nmbd dynamically update its host name when the DNS host name changes?
If "netbios name" is not specified in smb.conf, nmbd uses gethostname() to get the host's DNS host name on startup. If some process changes the host's DNS host name while nmbd is running, nmbd does not recognize the change. nmbd has to be restarted. Is there currently any way to make nmbd dynamically update its cached host name, such as polling for changes to
