Howto migrate shares from samba 3 / ADUC changing uid/uidnumber when activating UNIX (posix) attributes
Hi,
I've been using Samba 3 (standalone server, workgroup setup) for a long
looong time and now I want to migrate to Samba 4 AD DC setup with
clients joined to the newly created AD domain and all the bells and
whistles that come with it.
I've setup an AD DC (Debian wheezy with samba from backports) that will
only handle authentication and a second AD DC that will also serve
shares.

Fwd: Re: Swap: create or not?
I think I wrote not very clearly.
I say ''swap in domU will save in case lag or little mistake with
balloon''. If course, there is no any kind of ballooning for dom0.
Right now we running pretty much VMs for our cloud services and we use
heavy memory management (it grabs and gives memory with lag less then
second depends on usage in customers VM). And we have some statistics

Setup and configure file shares with Windows ACLs
When reading the wiki page about setting up new shares there is some
information missing.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setup_and_configure_file_shares_with_Windows_ACLs
The information I am missing most here is which posix.1 ACLs to set
after creating the shares directory.
There is only
# mkdir -p /srv/samba/Demo/
but on my system that will create a directory that is owned by root:root

question about sysvol replication
Hi,
I've created an Active Directory domain with 2 samba 4 running in
debian (I'm using the latest 4.1.x sernet packages).
Everything is running perfectly but I've found that I also have to
configure sysvol replication (that I didn't), looking at
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication I've found this
statement:
... for rsync-based SysVol replicaton, you have to

SAMBA 4.10 SYSVOL Replication adn RODC
Hi All,
1) I read that the devs are working on supporting AD 2012 in 4.11, very
cool.
2) I read SAMBA 4.11 can support 100,000 users and 120,000 computers, very
cool.
It appears that SAMBA is moving to be a viable file server, authentication
and authorization server that can replace Microsoft Active Directory -
Directory Services. Is this possible before 2030 for business with
multiple sites

sysvol /etc /private replication/backup via git
Hello List,
we have a running (test) AD samba4 system running successful for several month. We are now trying to add more DCs to the mix
and have a proper backup/desaster recovery strategy.
Basically I wan't to adapt the samba_backup script found in the sources to backup everything via git into our repository. I understand that the best solution would be to tar everything before commit.

Samba4 Disable USB ports
Hello Gabriel,
I recommend you use
gpupdate /force
on the windows command line after login.
The results of above command can be checked afterwards with the
"gpresults" command.
Can be you have an permission problem on your samba server. Only skimmed
ofver the thread but did you try
samba-tools ntacl sysvolreset
on your samba server?

Samba4 AD SysVol Replication (HowTo + Script)
Hello,
as it is often a question here on the lists and by many others on the
internet, I wrote a new HowTo for setting up a SysVol replication
"workaround", until Samba supports this feature by itself:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Replication
For the replication process, I wrote a Bash script, put it on my
webspace and linked it in the HowTo, which should describe

You don't have to use tar. But you have to ensure, that you have a
backup, that includes the extended ACLs and

Just to mention and because I'm in doubt: The samba_backup script contains tdbdump for private folder to create online dumps of all ldb. But the dumps are smaller than the original. Is that ok?
I'm in doubt regarding integrity.

Good morning everyone,
Gabriel: I haven't had a chance to test this yet, but I'm also needing the
same IE: Domain Users to have the GPO applied. Did you come right with this?
Andrey: Thank you for letting me know about the SysVol replication across
DC's, I haven't enabled this yet and will be doing so, is there anything I
should watch out for? I'll just be using the "

Automatic sysvol replication through detection of filesystem events
I thought this can be useful to someone, so here it goes.
I am using automatic SysVol replication with the help of "watcher", a
recursive incron.
https://github.com/splitbrain/Watcher
"Watcher is a daemon that watches specified files/folders for changes
and fires commands in response to those changes. It is similar to
incron, however, configuration uses a simpler to read ini

Bug#591456: Further effects of missing hotplugpath.sh [Re: squeeze: xen 4.0.1-2 + drbd8-utils: block-drbd script does no longer work?!]
FYI: This bug also breaks user supplied scripts (/etc/xen/scripts/block-*)
that are needed to handle block device mounting other than "phy:" and "file:"
disks.
See attached email from debian-user mailing list.

Ext3 step by step installation procedure
Hello!
I'm using i868 (Pentium III) machine running Windows 2000 and running Linux,
installed on dedicated partition, in parallel via VMWare. Linux config is
RedHat 7.0 (kernel )
As I'm pretty new to Linux, I'd like to know exact procedure how to install
ext3 filesystem support (also which packages do I need). My kernel config is
as follows:

Sysvol on GlusterFS?
Hi all,
CTDB seems to be needing an underlaying GlusterFS. Would it be possible to
declare a second GlusterFS share to host Sysvol data?
I have no experience about distributed file systems, so I'm not sure this
GlusterFS file system would act as a normal FS (modulo locking process)
from Samba point of view when it access to that FS. Then Samba would share
this through CIFS these data...
