bind9 refuses to start -> zone has no NS records
Hi, I have to add a second DC to a Zone. I use the sernet packages Version 4.11 on a debian 10 host. The bind refuses to start: root at addc-zone02:~# systemctl status bind9 ? bind9.service - BIND Domain Name Server Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/bind9.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Thu 2020-04-30 14:51:58 EEST; 5s ago Docs:

migrate from win2012srv to samba 4.1.17-Sernet-Debian-9.wheezy
I just go down in the script and found an acl called "thisserverip" with value SETIPPDC1. And this variable is used for this line : listen-on port 53 {"thisserverip", 127.0.0.1; ]; Is it not strange that the pdc1 windows server Ip is coming here? Thanks. Totally missing the mark here
I have to say I probably shouldn't have read that version 3 samba book, but I did, so I'm thoroughly confused about what I should be doing to get this server configured properly. I have installed the Sernet rpms on this server. For now, I'm going to run the AD on the same server as the file shares. Using the wiki as a guide, I've followed the provisioning but the first tests

I've gone full circle now, let's start over
When I started considering Samba, the main objective was to have a way for our users to log into something and map the shares they required based on their group (departmental) needs. As I asked more questions, most recommended AD as this would allow the administrator to manage these users. Now that I find I'll probably need VMs to handle the AD/DC and the shares because I only have two

DNS replication issue
Hi Rowland, Thank you for replying. Please find the output here below. Just a possible tip: _kerberos._tcp.example.com??? service = 0 100 88 addc-new.example.com. output is present on the new machine but if we issue a host -t SRV _kerberos._tcp.example.com on addc2 it does not appear in the list. Kind regards. Collected config? --- 2019-12-18-20:30 ----------- Hostname: addc-new DNS Domain:

Suggestions please about what I need.
I hate to use that "noob" word, but in this case I think it might be proper. Our company is getting ready to get rid of Netware and start using Samba. It will require that users log in and by doing so, have a login script map drives to particular drive letters base on either their user or group. I've been administering Centos servers for quite a while. I have no problem with

Samba4 questions
I'm a little new to Samba when used as more than just a simple place to mount a single user to a single share, but we're now getting ready to replace our Netware servers with Samba, and I guess that means Active Directory DC. As I read more and more about this beast, I keep finding pages that indicate the samba4 rpms supplied with the Centos/RH distribution are not the full version

tzdata - extra info.
Sorry for the extra info required, but I had digest mode turned on and wouldn't have received the mailing till tomorrow. I have since updated the data manually, but after 'yum update tzdata' was run, the zdump -v for EST5EDT and America/New_York all still showed a date of April 1, instead of March 11. After manually fixing, it is correct. This was mostly a question about why yum

DC replication not working
I've got a couple of Samba4 DCs running as VMs for testing. The primary AD DC went smoothly. The second VM joined properly and all but it's only when I get to the replication tests that I see errors. This is following the wiki When I run the command "samba-tool drs kcc -Uadministrator windowsdc.mycrap.cnpapers.dom" I get an error indicating that

tzdata
I read a few days back on the list where the tzdata rpm was to take care of the new DST rules. I run CentOS 3 servers, and did a 'yum update tzdata' , but received a 2006a update of the rpm. Is this proper? It sure didn't fix anything. Thanks Steve Campbell campbell at cnpapers.com Charleston Newspapers
