Ms-AD with samba AD
We have an old AD running on windows that we want to retire. It was not set
up correctly but it is providing dns under a domain -- call it myschool.edu.
Our samba server we set up on the domain we called ad.myschool.edu. We want
to have our windows dns forward requests for the new ad.myschool.edu domain
to our samba server and windows doesn't seem to want to do so. We have
attempted to create

I am using the following syntax to create a new user
samba-tool user add user passwd --userou=Faculty --given-name=new

Which gives me the following error:

DNS (bind_dlz) forwarding not working
>
> Not so much forgetting but not understanding ;-)
- Internal DNS that responds to our services (site, moodle, etc) -
ns.myinstitution.edu (registered in registro.br)
- Samba DNS answering for samba stuff - addc.myinstitution.edu
Maybe it's better to use SAMBA_INTERNAL instead of BIND_DLZ?

DNS (bind_dlz) forwarding not working
Thanks.
I was able to verify through the following command:
*samba-tool dns query localhost yourdomain.lan @ ALL -U administrator*

Rowland,
Some time ago I had made some questions about dns with samba4. In the topic
below you say:
"I would suggest you create a sub domain of your main domain (this is
recommended anyway) i.e. if your main domain is called

DNS (bind_dlz) forwarding not working
Rowland,
Seeing as BIND_DLZ uses the same info in AD as SAMBA_INTERNAL does,

Ok.
Which ever dns server you use, it must be authoritative for the AD

Implementing samba3/LDAP system across several schools
Hi All,
I am looking into the feasability of using Samba/LDAP for domain
control across several schools in my area, and would be interested to
hear of anyone who has any experience/thoughts on how this could work.
The schools share a community learning resource centre, and I am
looking for ways for all users to be able to log in at their own
schools, and also at the learning resource

hardware sizing and configuration
Understanding that a samba 4.x ADDC should be run on a an os separate
than a samba 4. file server, I was thinking of virtualizing both. Is it
common to have a single physcial server with two VM's running samba?
If some is there a recommendation on how much hardware to start with and
how much virtual hardware to give each VM. I'm wondering about virtual
nics and if there may be a

Join a subdomain DC to a domain DC
Hello guys,
I work at an institution where the domain is institute.edu.br. We have a
main dns that answers for the internal and external services that we have.
Firstly the staff here configured samba as domain institute.edu.br, but
this way it is conflicting in the resolution of internal and external
service names, since samba wants to respond for all requests and, even
inserting a forward zone,

DNS (bind_dlz) forwarding not working
Rowland,
I used the M$ DNS Manager tool and was able to create a delegation from a
subdomain to my existing DNS.
DNS Manager > Forward Lookup Zones > Right-click on mydomain.edu > New
Delegation > ...
After this I can open, for example the service "www.mydomain.edu" normally.
Where are these entries in AD?

making samba 4.2 in a container
Thank you for the excellent advice.
so an lxc container should be a privilege vm. Do containers share the same
file system like a BSD chroot jail? Or do they have a virtual disk image
like vmware or virtual box?
Sorry to be dense here. If you know of any good tutorials on making lxc
containers, I'd like to read them.
My thinking was that I would make an lxc container for the addc instance

Samba 3.0 as NT4 PDC with MIT kerberos 1.3 (v5) for authentication?
Hi All-
Please pardon my repost of my usenet article in this list.
Previously, I asked if Samba 3.0 could be an Active Directory Domain
Controller (ADDC). I have the feeling that the answer is no. If so, then
I have this other question:
Can I use Samba as an NT4 PDC for making a Windows NT4 domain that
would host several M$ Windows XPP client computers as domain
clients/members, but have

No problem! :D
OK, your dns domain is 'mydomain.edu' and your AD dns domain is
'addc.mydomain.edu', so far so good, but is the AD REALM set to
'ADDC.MYDOMAIN.EDU <http://addc.mydomain.edu/>' ?
Yes, my AD REALM is ADDC.MYDOMAIN.EDU
Yes, your AD DC should be the authoritative dns server for the AD dns

ok.

Choosing the right domain
Hi,
I am about to spend one week of my holidays with transfering our (about
20 clients) NT4 domain to a AD DC one.
We are running a samba NT4 PDC on debian buster which is offering dns
(bind9) and dhcp (isc-dhcpd), too.
I have an older server where I can play with an AD DC setup.
If I see I won't make it in a week, I would like to be able to return as
smooth as possible to the present

samba as an ldap server
We would like to use samba 4.x as our ADDC and also as an ldap source for
authentication. Google apps can use an ldap server as a source for users
and groups. There seems to be plenty of use of AD as a ldap server for this
purpose. I wanted to check to see if anyone has used samba 4 running as an
ADDC as an authentication server for other services that can consume ldap.

making samba 4.2 in a container
Someone recently mentioned building a samba addc in a linux container. I'm
new to containers and would really love to learn how to do it correctly.
Anyone know of how-to's or gotcha's related making samba run in an lxc
containter?

DNS (bind_dlz) forwarding not working
Hello,
I provisioned an samba AD with the bind_dlz option. So far so
good. Followed the samba wiki.
I have a DNS for our external access services (website, moodle, etc) and
I'm using it as a forwarder to AD but it is not working.
In a win7 I configured the AD IP as primary DNS and put it in the domain.
When I try to access, for example, "wiki.samba.org" it opens normally, but

samba ADDC dns setup? ( this is same for any MS server )
Hai eveyone.
I know about the dns "things" in the past. DNS Islanding problems etc.
This one is a bit hijacking the subject :
“Horrible BIND9_DLZ DNS breakage after DC replaced and samba-tool domain demote --remove-other-dead-server”
I would like to suggest a smale change in how we suggest to setup samba ADDC dns things,
and i do think this help in the setup of the AD
