DC replication not working
I've got a couple of Samba4 DCs running as VMs for testing. The primary
AD DC went smoothly. The second VM joined properly and all but it's only
when I get to the replication tests that I see errors. This is following
the wiki
When I run the command "samba-tool drs kcc -Uadministrator

help again with dns and samba 4 ad
I need helping again implementing samba4 ad and dns:
Actually we have a dnsmasq server with dhcp/dns services for users on the
lan, if we start to using the internal samba4 dns server to resolv names on
the zone of DC server example mydomain.test.com we can use the actual
dnsmasq to server another domains that we need ?, for example
otherdomain.testing.com.ar
If that is correct we need to

tzdata - extra info.
Sorry for the extra info required, but I had digest mode turned on and
wouldn't have received the mailing till tomorrow.
I have since updated the data manually, but after 'yum update tzdata' was
run, the zdump -v for EST5EDT and America/New_York all still showed a date
of April 1, instead of March 11. After manually fixing, it is correct.
This was mostly a question about why yum

help again with dns and samba 4 ad
Correct we have the dnsmasq server dns+dhcp on other ip server.
So if I understand well, we will use the samba DC as a "authoritative
nameserver" and the dnsmasq as a forwarder dns for resolve outside our zone
?
And we set on the dnsmasq (when deliver ip to the client as a dhcp server)
the primary dns is a samba DC server, and too we can set the dnsmasq a
secondary dns server or is not

Samba 4 Bind DNS on CentOS 7
Can anyone point me to instruction for setting up Bind to work with
Samba 4 on CentOS 7? I know there are some instruction at
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/DNS_Backend_BIND but they're incomplete
when using the Sernet repo. In particular, it refers to 'include
"/usr/local/samba/private/named.conf";' but that file doesn't exist at
any location on my system.

How to switch from internal DNS to Bind
Hello,
I'm attempting to switch from the internal DNS to Bind. This is for
my Samba test environment on a VM running Samba 4.3.1 on Ubuntu server

DNS backend on samba4 nt4 style
Hello guys,
It is possible to work with the "dns-backend = SAMBA_INTERNAL" in Samba4
NT4 style?
I followed the link below, but there was some errors.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Changing_the_DNS_backend
Errors:
*# samba_upgradedns --dns-backend=SAMBA_INTERNAL*
*lpcfg_load: refreshing parameters from /etc/samba/smb.conf*

tzdata
I read a few days back on the list where the tzdata rpm was to take care of
the new DST rules. I run CentOS 3 servers, and did a 'yum update tzdata' ,
but received a 2006a update of the rpm.
Is this proper? It sure didn't fix anything.
Thanks

domain users "primary group" does not take effect in UNIX attributes (NIS)
Hello list,
using AD with rfc2307 provisioned and NIS extensions are available. In ADUC tool I choose the group "Domain Admins" and click on the [UNIX Attributes] tab. I activate it for my domain and choose the GID=500. When I execute on my member server "net cache flush && getent group 500" I get the result

So far so good,

Login screen changes
I tested moving a box from Tao 1.0 to CentOS 3.7. All went well, as far as I
can tell, with the OS upgrades, but I needed to rpm -ivh --force the
desktop-* stuff. This was a minor thing to fix for no real purpose other
than to just be doing it.
I still get, though, the Tao screens when the graphic login screen appears.
I have changed the Application->Settings->Login Screen->

[samba_upgradedns] Error parsing DNS data
Hello Rowland,

I am trying to change over from bind9 to internal dns.
For some reason I keep getting the following error:
Error parsing DNS data from '/opt/samba/private/dns/TH01.INET.zone' ()

[Quote Rowland Penny
Are you using flat files with Samba and Bind ??
If so, what you are trying to do, will not work.

Changing DC from external to internal DNS
I set up two AD DC with external bind and it used to work for a while.
Following a Bind9 upgrade named complained about missing SOA and NS
records in the DLZ zones and could not be started anymore.
Monday, due to a misinterpretation of some queries, I restarted Bind on
the hitherto working system and I got the same error messages. No
nothing changed - no changes in configuration, no updates.

Samba 4 Bind DNS on CentOS 7
Hi Brady,
I realise that but the only named.conf to be found on the system is my
newly created /etc/named.conf. Either something screwed up when
installing the Sernet RPMs, which is really pretty unlikely given that
everything else is working, or the file was not included in the package.
regards,
John

DVD rom questions
I'm running CentOS 3 and have just installed a Liteon lightscribe DVD/CD
unit. I firstly realized I didn't know exactly how to mount it, as /dev/dvd
didn't exist, I didn't want to generate anything if it already existed, and
I didn't want to mess up my cdrom unit that works just fine.
I mounted the device though the X window just to see how it might mount, and
find that it

New member, new OS, old Tao user
Mr. Parsley, the main man at the Tao Linux group, has announced that he will
no longer be able to do his thing for Tao Linux. Just recently, I had
decided to investigate CentOS 4 before his announcement, and liked a lot of
what I saw. Due to the Tao announcement, I have decided that CentOS will
"have" to be the OS for my company in the future. Hence, my new membership
to this list.
