I've gone full circle now, let's start over
When I started considering Samba, the main objective was to have a way
for our users to log into something and map the shares they required
based on their group (departmental) needs. As I asked more questions,
most recommended AD as this would allow the administrator to manage
these users.
Now that I find I'll probably need VMs to handle the AD/DC and the
shares because I only have two

SysVol questions
I still haven't installed Samba, as I'm still in the planning stages.
Again, I'm new to Samba, and I discover our Windows pro isn't quite up
on the newer stuff since it's been years since he ran domains.
I'm a little confused about this thing called "SysVol". Reading up on
it, it appears a real important part of an AD, but I don't see how or

Samba4 questions
I'm a little new to Samba when used as more than just a simple place to
mount a single user to a single share, but we're now getting ready to
replace our Netware servers with Samba, and I guess that means Active
Directory DC.
As I read more and more about this beast, I keep finding pages that
indicate the samba4 rpms supplied with the Centos/RH distribution are
not the full version

what to do ??
Howdy All,
I am the adminstrator in a school which has netware 4.11 ( five servers in
the nds tree )as its main student platform. This has been working very
well over the past 6 years or so.
The school has the ability to obtain a microsoft solution at no cost (
except for the new hardware required, which is the reason for this email
in the first place ).
Advice and opinions are sought on the

Maybe not related to Samba - Shares don't show up on desktop
Now that most things seem to be functioning, I'm wondering about
something else.
On a Netware system, when I view the Microsoft Network, I see the
machines that are active on the network. I can open the servers and see
any shares on that server. I can then right-click on the share and map
to a network drive
Currently on our pretend server, I can see the server but cannot open it

Since this only needs a new hypervisor binary and not a full set of
tools etc to reproduce I think it can be simplified to replacing the

DC replication not working
I've got a couple of Samba4 DCs running as VMs for testing. The primary
AD DC went smoothly. The second VM joined properly and all but it's only
when I get to the replication tests that I see errors. This is following
the wiki
When I run the command "samba-tool drs kcc -Uadministrator
windowsdc.mycrap.cnpapers.dom" I get an error indicating that

tzdata - extra info.
Sorry for the extra info required, but I had digest mode turned on and
wouldn't have received the mailing till tomorrow.
I have since updated the data manually, but after 'yum update tzdata' was
run, the zdump -v for EST5EDT and America/New_York all still showed a date
of April 1, instead of March 11. After manually fixing, it is correct.
This was mostly a question about why yum

Samba as an active directory
Dear,
After a few attempts I now have my first Samba installed and running as active directory (on Debian-Turnkey)
Topics I struggle with are not Samba itself, yet.
I seek help to clarify wat is failing, what I did wrong or did not do yet.
1. Joining the domain: fails to resolve SRV type record for \_ldap.\_tcp.dc.\_msdcs.<domain> (typos here are mine, correct on machine)
2. Fail of 1 is

Still no messages from dovecot
I'm still not seeing emails from the list. With help from others, I
thought I had the IPs cleared since the change back in February, but
apparently not.
Can someone PM me and let me know what outgoing IP addresses the list is
using please?

/etc/hosts missing localhost?
Is there any reason why /etc/hosts would be missing the line,
127.0.0.1 localhost?
I just spent an hour trying to figure out why I could not connect
to postgresql using ``psql -h ...'', finally figuring out that
the /etc/hosts file was the problem.

NOOB: Numeric only input...can it be done on client?
I was wondering if there''s a way to limit what a user is typing on the
keyboard to only valid numeric input. Is there a simple plugin or something
which would allow this? I guess with AJAX it could also be one. Has anyone
already solved this requirement? Thanks in advance.

Problem with X on VM
I've got a Centos 5 server with Xen installed. I'm trying to install a
Centos 6.5 VM on it but once all is installed, the X window will not
sync or display. I think I understand that it's probably due to the
settings on the vnc stuff. I've got Centos 6.2 VMs that act just fine.
Is there a way I can modify the VM's screen settings either during
installation or after

Group instead of User login scripts
I'm sure these sound like stupid questions, or have really simple
answers, so sorry. The really bad thing is I originally sent these to
samba-bounces. Oops.
Once we get this Samba AD thing installed, we'd like to have users login
and mount particular shares to drive letters based on their group, not
their user. All I've read about this seems to use "user" scripts (along

Still no emails since Feb. 6
I checked my settings on the dovecot mailman page, and although my
account was set to "disable" email, after changing it and attempting to
have the list resend my password, I'm still not seeing emails.
The last time I received emails, the outgoing server for the list was
sent from the IP 193.210.130.67. Is that still correct?
I've checked my logs to see if there's

Centos 5.x SElinux issues
I did a complete clean install of CentOS 5 from CD yesterday.
I took the default selinux configuration.
After that I ran yum update and found 600 plus updates and installs.
I let it go to do the updates and during that process I saw a large number of
issues in the selinux troubleshooter.
I also see these kinds of things in /var/log/messages:

yum $releasever thinks it's 1 instead of 3
I just upgraded one of my Tao boxes to Centos 3. The usual procedure is
to do a yum update twice, and all is fine.
This time, I had to rebuilddb before I could run the second yum update,
and once I started this, yum fails. It says that $releasever is "1.0".
Now I realize I could manually edit my yum.conf and make it go to 3, but
this may not fix the problem down the road. Can

tzdata
I read a few days back on the list where the tzdata rpm was to take care of
the new DST rules. I run CentOS 3 servers, and did a 'yum update tzdata' ,
but received a 2006a update of the rpm.
Is this proper? It sure didn't fix anything.
Thanks
