Migrating samba4 dc from an instance with static/external dns to a fresh install with dynamic/internal dns
Dear list, I want to migrate our existing samba4 dc with a static/external dns backend, to a new install with internal dynamic dns backend. Given: DC1 - existing samba4 dc with static/external dns running quite old build (to be updated to version 4.3 before the migration starts) DC2 - new samba4 dc with internal dynamic dns (running 4.3 version) What is the best way to do such migration?

AD DCs Upgrade
I am planning to upgrade the DCs using the join and promote method. List of DCs ----------- 1) SAMBA1 2) SAMBA2 3) DC1 4) DC2 Currently SAMBA1 is the PDC and SAMBA2 is the "SDC" and are in sync with replication and rsync sysvol. DCs SAMBA1 and SAMBA2 are 4.1 git releases with AD Schema version 47. My plan to get to AD Schema version 69 was... 0. Add entries to the DHCP Server for the

Problem to demote Samba4 DC
Hello, I recently migrated our samba 3 domain to an AD domain using Samba 4 classic upgrade tool. DNS is provided by the internal dns server of Samba 4. I promoted a Windows 2k8 box as a new DC of this domain and I transfer all the 5 FSMO roles to this windows box. Now I would like to demote the Samba4 DC but when I tried I got this message : # samba-tool domain demote ERROR: Current DC is

How to Migrate Samba AD from one server to another
I would like to move a Samba AD from one server to another. I am finding the documentation on the web somewhat lacking. Can somebody point me to documentation that might help step me through an acceptable migration path? Will the command > samba-tool drs clone-dc-database <dnsdomain> --server=SERVER -targetdir=TARGETDIR essentially do what I want? Basically clone the AD on another

Replace primary DC
Following this thread: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2025-April/251400.html We currently have 3 Samba (dc2, dc3, dc4) currently installed as secondaries for dc1, they are installed from debian 12 backports while dc1 is from a Turnkey Linux using an old version of samba, webmin, etc... I'm thinking about reinstalling to homogenize the infra. Is this the right way to do it: - Transfer

How to move DC to other Server
Hi, i want to move my DC from an amd64 debian jessie to a armhf debian jessie. My first guess is to demote the dc and rejoin the new server. Der DC has all FSMO roles and is part of a three DC setup. Would this be the right way or should i choose another way? Regards, Dirk

Transfer the FSMO roles
I've been thinking if it's better to make a new Samba 4 DC server instead upgrade the old DC and then transfer the FSMO roles to it and shut down the old server. This way the installation would be cleaner and free of any errors of the old installation. I'm using Samba 4.2.1 and the result of command below is: root at EMPRESA:~# samba-tool fsmo show InfrastructureMasterRole owner:
