How to - Samba, winbind and Active Directory
Hi, I finally was able to to get samba/winbind to authenticate off W2k3 Active Directory. I seen a lot of info on the web on how to do this but I never seem to have one site that got me through it all. Anyway, with all the info I gathered I was able to put it all together, get it working and documented all the steps I used. I'm running Redhat 4 (2.6.9-55.0.2) with compiled Samba 3.0.25c

samba (via openchange) panic when checking username in outlook
Hi all I installed Sogo + OpenChange following the user guides (http://www.sogo.nu/downloads/documentation.html), on a CentOS6. The only difference from the official way is I have a 4.1.7 Samba I built using Sogo specfile, where I added the "--enable-debug" "./configure" option: http://pastebin.com/P129yhu2 All but the samba4 RPM is from the Sogo repository. Installation and Setup of Samba4 AD DC on CentOS6
I have setup a Samba4 server and would like to report my experiences in the hope that it may be helpful to others. I basically followed the official Samba4 HowTo, which is very good. Based on what I have seen, this is the only document I would recommend people to follow. I will try not to repeat things that are covered in the HowTo, but rather focus on what I did differently or additionally,

Why does 'mysql' user has /bin/bash shell?
Hello, Default MySQL installation on CentOS sets /bin/bash as shell. I'm on a user cleanup task where I want reduce unneeded privileges to users. What is the "mysql" user shell for? (What will happen if I change it to /bin/false or whatever would disable it's shell?) It's not only a matter of SSH (I'm aware I can AllowUsers in sshd_config for example).

The subtype of the stream is told as Vorbis in the icecast stats page. I provide you the content of my simple ezstream config file.

Access filesystem (NFS) as some user
Manao ahoana, Hello, Bonjour, My Dovecot server has to access the users Maildirs. Maildirs are on a NFS mount that only a user (vmail/500) may read and write. No one else. How to configure Dovecot so that at least disk read-write are performed as a "vmail" user (that I have created with the right attributes)? Is the workaround of changing dovecot's system UID/GID a not-so-bad one?

The server is already serving ogg stream but our foundation got a new member that did not know about ogg, and he needs time to encode his tracks to ogg, and then we should temporarily relay his mp3 stream, but we want to be dired by SC directory ... minute cron
Hi all, CentOs has choosen anacron as default cron daemon. I did not look further about the reasons, I think there are some good reasons. I want to create a minute based set of scripts. No much precision required, once a minute more or less 20 sec is OK. Using anacron, how do you recommend to do it? Is anacron the right tool? Otherwise what's the right tool? -- RMA.

Help: Icecast running multiple times on Cent-OS
I'm not the most experience Linux user on the block so please excuse me if this is an easy fix. I noticed the other day while looking at my active services that Icecast has started more than once on my server. I'm wondering if someone would be able to look at my config and tell me why this is happening, or how to stop this from happening. My guess is that since I'm binding to an IP,

Init.d script troubleshooting.
I got a strange problem with init.d scripts on a fully updated (as of today) fresh install of 5.5 x64. I've written a script, /etc/init.d/Fast that starts a fairly large and slow commercial application, by calling that applications control binary to do the actual work. I "registered" the script, via chkconfig --add Fast, and the symlinks are in the expected places. [root at
