@reboot only some lines of a script are working (yum install not)
Hallo,
I m using a script to install docker after a reboot.
The script is starting and working.
The problem:
yum install doesn't work running the script via cron allthough yum
remove works.
Starting the script manual works fine .
Has anyone a hint for me?
Thanks
Ralf

Badlock bad luck
Hello,
I run a CentOS 6 machine with samba, serving approx. 150 Windows users
with samba running as an NT-like PDC.
After today's samba update (samba-3.6.23-30.el6_7.x86_64 etc.), nobody
can log in.
They all get the "Trust relationship failed" error message.
If I downgrade:
yum downgrade samba-common samba-winbind samba-winbind-clients
samba-client samba samba-doc

I had exactly the same problem. Your workaround fixed me too.
With the new samba packages my samba\logs are full of errors.
If I temporarily disconnected the PC client NIC cable, and
logged into the domain using cached credentials, then I could
get past the problem. But, you helped me greatly with this
posting. I wasted hours checking Windows updates - useless.
We still need the new

C6: Suspend on laptop close doesn't work
Hello,
I've been running Fedora on my Lenovo X61s laptop for many
(Fedora) generations.
Fedora 15, however, was not my cup of tea, so I've decided to wipe
out Fedora, and do a clean install of CentOS 6 (x86_64).
Everything works OK, except that the laptop does not suspend when
I close the lid.
I've checked the settings in "Power Management", and it is set
to suspend when

kickstart on 6
I am getting an error that "--depth does not take an option" on
kickstart for 6.0
This is my line in kickstart (works for 5.0)
xconfig --defaultdesktop=GNOME --depth=8 --resolution=640x480
--startxonboot
Why would they change that or is it broken?

samba problem with kernel 2.6.32-279.*
Hello,
We use Norton Ghost, running in a PXE booted DOS, to
handle Windows XP images.
The images are stored on a samba share on our CentOS 6
server.
This has worked without any problems for years.
After kernel 2.6.32-279* it has stopped working.
The symptom is that if I boot in DOS, and do:
net use x: \\myserver\ghostimages
dir x:
I get an infinite loop where the first file name is

Storing and restoring sound settings
Hello,
I have made a bootable CD (with revisor) of CentOS 6.
The CD boots and starts a game automatically (for an exhibition).
I have one problem: The default sound settings are not correct.
After the machine is booted, I have to open gnome-volume-control,
select "Hardware", and select "Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output" under
"Profile".
How can I set this up

backing up pending at commands
I can easily get a copy of my pending cron jobs so I can keep a backup. "crontab -l > mycron.txt" is part of my backup script, and that does the job nicely.
Is there a way that I can get a copy of pending at jobs for this purpose? I can get a list of pending jobs with atq, and I can show each job with at -c jobname, but I don't see a way to get something that is suitable for use

Poor rsync performance after upgrade from 5.8 x86 to 6.3 x64
Greetings-
The subject sums it up...
I have a Dell 2950 acting as a general purpose 'storage' machine, handling some NFS work for some local servers, and also pulling in rsync backups of some largish filesystems over SSH. These backups, prior to the upgrade were taking about 6 hours to complete (MANY small files). Now, after the upgrade, the same backups are taking about 16 hours to

IBM ServeRAID M5014 and CentOS 5.5
Hi all,
we are about to buy some IBM x3550 M2 servers with ServeRAID M5014 SAS
onboard controller. Can anyone confirm that these controllers will work
with CentOS 5.5 (seems to be some rebranded LSI controller).
I cannot find any hint in the 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 sources...
Regards,
Peter

::1 in /var/log/httpd/access_log on CentOS 7
I see "MANY" of these
::1 - - [13/Oct/2020:10:46:08 -0500] "OPTIONS * HTTP/1.0" 200 - "-"
"Apache/2.4.6 (CentOS) OpenSSL/1.0.2k-fips mod_fcgid/2.3.9 (internal dummy
connection)"
in the log file. This is not me connecting as ::1 is localhost.
What is this - how might I stop it ?
Thanks

bond0 performance issues in 5.6
Hi all,
I've got two gigabit ethernet interfaces bonded in CentOS 5.6. I've
set "miimode=1000" and I've tried "mode=" 0, 4 and 6. I've not been able
to get better than 112MB/sec, which is the same as the non-bonded
interfaces.
My config files are:

cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-{eth1,eth2,bond0}

question on initrd.img file from images/pxeboot
What format is the images/pxeboot/initrd.img file on the DVD ?
Its not gzip
its not straight cpio
What is it?
I wish to change it.
I'm finding information on changing the gzip version of initrd
but not the PXE one.
If I do "file initrd.img" it just says data.
Thanks,
Jerry

Debugging/optimizing LAN/Fileserver Performance
Hi,
I do have one fileserver, which is compared to other systems slow when
transferring file through the lan.
The test I did get a transfer speed of about 70 - 80 MB/s. I copy files
by rsync or scp from a SSD disk to the servers ISCSI Storage and I
tested to copy to a serverside RAM disk.
I copy one big file of about 2/10 GB; 2 is to the RAM disk.
The point is, the mentioned one server just
