Centos 7 and php 5.5
I am hoping that the wisdom of the group here can at least point me in
the right direction.
I have a Centos7 server that I need to upgrade php from 5.4 to 5.5. I've
tried several tutorials to add the remi repository and enable php55, but
I always end up at the same result:
Error: Package: php-5.5.38-1.el6.remi.x86_64 (remi-php55)
Requires: httpd-mmn = 20051115

why does centos 7 want to install mariadb instead of mysql ?
Hey all,
I just got around to trying out CentOS 7. And for some reason when I
attempt to install mysql-server, instead I'm offered mariadb? I'm using
epel and remi as my repos.

mairadb doesn't prompt for user/pass
Hello,
I discovered today that CentOS 7 has replaced MySQL with MariaDB. Which is
fine, it's seems really similar. And I was already aware that it was
written by the original team that wrote mysql.
It's cool that the mysql command still gets you in!
This is the version I have:
[root at web1:~] #mysql --version

Centos 7 and php 5.5
Looks like you are trying to install packages built for EL6 in EL7
I'm fairly certain Remi has EL7 packages for PHP 7.
If he doesn't, I have php 5.6.x for EL7 - but it's a radical update
because I build against a new apache and LibreSSL which isn't what a lot
of people want.

Booting to USB Pen Drive
I am trying to use Syslinux as my boot loader for a stripped down
version of Knoppix (DSL) on a USB Pen Drive. I followed the instructions
verbatim on
http://rz-obrian.rz.uni-karlsruhe.de/knoppix-usb/knoppix-usb.html, but
no luck. The system will start to boot to the USB, but gives a Kernel
Panic. I will give all information that shows on the screen.
After I select Boot from USB (which on my

can't create user entries in smbpasswd
Hi all,
after installing samba 2.2.5 (on Solaris8 running NIS+) it is not
possible to create user entries in smbpasswd.
I generated the smbpasswd file by

Wine and Kaleidagraph
Hi.
I am a recently debian user that don't know much about linux, but I work
hard :).
I was boring about MsWindows and I've decided to change, but I have to
work with some Windows programs.
Really I have a problem: I must use kaleidagraph in my work,I've seen
that this program is available in the Programs database, so I've
installed and upgraded my Wine.
After that I have
