XDMCP - no GDM login, only gray screen with X
I'm having trouble getting the GDM login screen to show up when I connect from a remote host. I'm using Xming on the local Windows machine, but every time I connect to the remote server all I get is a gray window with the X cursor. I have "Enable=true" in the [xdmcp] section of /etc/gdm/custom.conf. IPtables is disabled. I've googled around and read through the xdmcp page

Remote X connection to CentOS 5.5 using Xming -ac
Hello, I've rented a dedicated root server (SR7 at strato.de) and would like to run qemu at it, but get the error: # qemu -hda install.img -cdrom install47.iso -boot d Could not initialize SDL - exiting It seems that I have to establish X connection, so I've installed Xming at my WinXP laptop and at the server I have changed these 3 lines in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config: X11Forwarding

XDMCP
Dear SAMBA team: I have a question about SAMBA because I install red hat linux 6.2 server in our server and it is in the NT LAN. I try to let other NT machine log in to that linux server through Reflection X. So I choose SAMBA. I would want to know that does SAMBA support XDMCP ? Because Reflection X use XDMCP broadcast and it can detect other servers on our NT LAN. And

Issue getting Gnome display manager on Centos 6 to Xming on Win7
Greetings - My objective is to get a full Gnome GUI console display to show in an Xming window on my Win7 box. I do a similar thing with my Raspberry Pi so that it operates headless with just the power and network cord attached. My CentOS 6 box and the Win7 box are on the same network within my office LAN behind a good firewall. For various reasons that I won't go into I am unable to

Using LightDM as a headless XDMCP server without physical graphics card
Hi, I'm currently testing the XDMCP functionality of LightDM which seems to work flawless, however, there is one issue which I cannot resolve: The machine I am using for my setup is a dedicated machine running some VM's, these VM's don't have any graphics card associated and run headless and the only form of command is via a web interface or SSH. LightDM seems to use the

Danny, Kristian, All, First let me tell you guys whatever you are doing with compiz, keep it up! It's looking great! I have a new error on ArchLinux when running compiz 0.8.2.1 that I have never seen before. I installed Archlinux on 2 boxes to check it out. One on a x86_64 box with the nvidia driver (no problems there) and one on an i686 box with onboard intel video. When connecting over

OT: configuring xming to know putty's not in a std. location
Is there some way to do this? I've got the current putty (actually, putty-cac), pageant, and plink in my user's Downlods directory - neither he nor I have admin authority on his laptop, and Desktop support's teleworking today - but I can't seem to find a way to configure xming to look there for putty. Or is it start putty, *then* start xming? mark

CentOS 6 and XDMCP
Hi all, I am trying to use XDMCP from a Mac (OSX Lion, XQuartz) to an updated CentOS 6 64Bit host. I am tunneling through SSH, so I use XDMCP on the remote host locally via Xnest like this: > ssh -X -C -l $LOGINUSER $HOST -n "Xnest :1 -ac -geometry 1440x850 > -once -query localhost I get a black screen without any login window or desktop background. My /etc/gdm/custom.conf looks

KVM as a desktop
I am nearing the end of a project that moved our disparate services and hosts onto kvm virtualized servers. What I am now contemplating is setting up my desktop as a virtual host and using one of the guests as my primary workstation. However, I am not sure how this would work in practice. I am accustomed to working with virtual instances via ssh (a terminal window) and with my desktop system in
