Severe issues with the latest 6.5 desktop
Ok, here at home, I'm running kde. After the last update, last week, and reboot (and that was a *real* mess - some issue I'm not sure I've resolved yet, trying to boot off RAID 1), here's what's started happening: I run in runlevel 3, and have a startx in my .bash_profile. At some point, just about every day, suddenly the toolbar on the bottom vanishes, as does my desktop

Generating X configuration files
I'm trying to make my computer work with a Fedora 32 live DVD. Video issues make it either crap out or only give me 640x480. Grrrr. Centos 7 is running just fine. I think I could make it go by booting to runlevel 3 and running startx manually. For that to work, I think I need to pass startx the right configuration file. To me, 'tain't obvious what to put in that file. Is there a way

CentOS 7, ATI video, ex-X
A user running gnome came in this morning, clicked on the application menu... and it was much shorter than he expected. He could get to firefox, and googled about refreshing that... and found something that told him to reboot. And that's it: I cannot get X up, at all. I just get the "oh, no, something failed, please log out and try again". Fully updated CentOS 7, [AMD/ATI] Oland

C7 and NVIDIA driver
Hi all, I'm running C7 on i7 8700k/asus z370-a with an GTX1050. I noticed that there are several problems installing Nvidia proprietary driver. After one week of troubleshooting I got my solution. Hope that can help other user. I found this https://access.redhat.com/solutions/3438891 but I've not access to this content. In this content seems that the workaround is using lightdm and

Strange crash after NVidia driver installation from ELRepo
Hi, I just had the weirdest of system crashed. Here goes. I wanted to install a desktop step by step, as I usually do. First the base system, then the X Window System, then the WindowMaker window manager. Everything went OK, then I installed kmod-nvidia from ELRepo. Yum informed me that the driver conflicted with x11-glamor (something like that), so I removed the corresponding package.

CentOS 7 + NVidia Quadro 2000 graphic card
Le 10/11/2017 ? 14:42, Nux! a ?crit : > Did you play with nvidia-settings? Maybe also wipe out xorg.conf and > start afresh. Thanks for all your suggestions. I spent a few hours fiddling with various driver versions and configurations. In the end, I simply ripped out the %&#@$ Quadro card and replaced it with a GeForce 8300, which works perfectly with the kmod-nvidia-340xx driver.

qemu-dm cpu utilization
Using an 8-way ES7000 with 32GB of ram, I''m running xen at changset 11217 with dom0_mem=3092M as a kernel parameter on a x86_64 hyperviser. It appears that qemu is adding too much overhead to virtual machines to display graphics. If I boot a sles9sp3 domVT in runlevel 5 with vga=0x314 for a graphicalboot, and immediately use vncviewer simply to watch the virtual machine as it boots,

VGA passthrough and new nVidia cards
Hi, I''m trying to build a (probably) secondary graphics passthrough install on an HP Z420. We don''t need earth-shattering performance. Unfortunately, the cards on the Xen tested list are going EOL and won''t be available from HP for the lifetime of the product we are building. HP have said that the approved graphics cards for the Z420 going forward are the nVidia

Software Updater issue
Hey All, Heads up! For some reason the Software Updater thought it would be interesting for me if it upgraded my nvidia 304 driver with the nvidia 310.32-1 driver. That would be nice if the 310 driver supported my crusty old GS 7600 but it doesn't. I had to run two yum downgrade sessions to get it back to working again. First downgrade brought me 310.19-2, which doesn't support

Centos 6: howto install and run KDE
On my laptop, I have not been able to get KDE to run; I always get gnome. I installed selecting KDE, and I tried yum groupinstall, which appeared to work, but I still get gnome running. BTW, I boot to level 3, and run startx. Thanks for your suggestions. Mike.

CentOS 6: Making KDE Default
I learned from Anne that if I boot to level 5, after I enter the username, can select Gnome or KDE. I note that the default is always Gnome. How can I make the default KDE? How can I get KDE with startx after booting to level 3? Thanks, Mike.

Gnome desktop trouble
Hello, I have several CentOS 6.2 hosts (2.6.32-220.7.1.el6.x86_64) that lock up when attempting to use the Gnome desktop from the console. I can always log in, but then all I get is the blue root window, the round initial mouse pointer, and nothing else. The last process associated with the console is "xprop -root" which strace shows as hanging indefinitely. There are cases

blue screen instead of login screen
I installed Centos 6.2/i386 on a machine last night with a 1920x1080 monitor. The installer ran in graphical mode and looked fine. After the install was finished I rebooted and ran through the "firstboot" stuff (set up user, etc) with no problem and, again, it looked good. After that, when I should have seen the gdm login screen, all I got was the blue background but not the box with
