logrotate script not working
Hey guys, Got a quick question and I hope this is an easy one! In my /etc/logrotate.conf file I have the following entry: # rotate all of the apache logs -- we'll rotate them here /var/log/mysqld.log { weekly size 50M create 0644 mysql mysql rotate 1 } And from that I would expect the log to rotate when it reaches 50M in size. However I just caught that log weighing

kjournald tuning
While investigating erratic performance on one our our servers, I'm getting some very odd performance stats coming from vmstat. What initially appeared to be happening is the machine goes into a hard loop in some mod_perl webserver code. Now there still may be an issue with the code, but my code examinations show no possible way this could be happening, but what I'm writing to you

SELinux and daemons - clever way to change default locations?
I'm sure you've seen this before: You need to slightly tweak the default installation of a major daemon - let's say you're running a big MySQL database and you need to put it on a different filesystem, mounted (for example) as /db So you move /var/lib/mysql to /db/mysql (and preserve all the file attributes, including SELinux), change /etc/my.cnf accordingly, start mysqld -

restart after yum update (6.6)?
Hi, according to this : http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/28144/after-yum-update-is-it-a-good-idea-to-restart-the-server i should reboot my server after updating packages i.e: kernel, glibc, libc. Maybe it's a silly question, but Is it necessary if I don't use graphical environment ? (and don't want to use the latest kernel yet)

Extreme Samba Newbie needs more help
Tom Syroid was kind enough to answer my first question. I had some really weird errors and he told me to uninstall the samba that I had compiled on my own and reinstall the samba.tgz that came with slackware 7.1 which is what I am running. I did so, and the weird errors no longer occur. Instead when I try: root@vader82:/# smbclient -L localhost added interface ip=192.168.0.1

Memory leak - how to investigate
My web & name server runs out of memory from time to time, to the point where it's completely unresponsive to anything. At that point reset is the only alternative. (Or, as this is a virtual guest, I just say "virsh destroy"). But why this happens - I would like to know. The host in question is a KVM guest, and runs CentOS 6.4. From "top" (situation now): Mem:

restart after yum update (6.6)?
Hi, you don't *have* to reboot the server. If you don't there are two factors you need to consider: 1. The updated component are not all active without a reboot The kernel for example will obviously not not be running without a reboot and the same may be true for other components. For most applications you should be ok if you just restart the application so it can load in the new

Inherit two classes?
Hello, I have a class called website, which requires both httpd and mysqld classes. Without defining it within the site.pp (node section). Is it possible to define that "website" requires these additions? init.d scripts not starting at boot
I have just deployed a new CentOS 6.4 image on AWS, and I'm having issues with init.d scripts not starting up. I've verified the following; 1) They work on their own after boot 2) They're set to run at runlevel 3,4, and 5 via chkconfig 3) The system boots up in runlevel 3 (no GUI) 4) There are no lingering PID files around after boot 5) Permissions

Need help with httpd.conf not rendering cgi or php files
I got this working perfectly at home - what should be exact same setups- - Fresh install of CentOS 5 32-bit from DVD - yum update & upgrade - Reboot - yum install mysql-server - Download phpmyadmin and bugzilla from their respective home pages - Move both to /var/www/html, naming the extracted phpmyadmin directory as phpmyadmin, the same with bugzilla - Copy my working httpd.conf file from
