Miredo server for Centos 6
On delving deeper into Miredo support, it seems that Miredo Server is a separate program from the Miredo client/relay. And that there is no Miredo Server available for Centos 6. Not in EPEL 6, or repoforge. So far the maintainer of Miredo for Fedora/EPEL has not reponded to a query on its status for EPEL 6. I have to ask on repoforge about miredo-server. Anyone know of anywhere else to

VLC package(s) for C6 ?
Hi listees! Just installed C6 (more or less) permanently on my eeepc. I've enabled rpmfusion non-free, rpmfusion free, elrepo, and epel, prior to this point I've been running fedora on it (f10 thru f14) and have always found VLC at rpmfusion. (but finally RHEL/Centos have become modern enough to support the eeepc's funky hardware, so I'm switching back--tired of the version

AMD Liano A8 Processors supported on CentOS 6.x?
Hi. Red Hat is saying that AMD Liano A8 CPU's are not supported by RHEL/CentOS 6: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/articles/65431 Is that true? What can I expect if I try to install CentOS 6.3 on PC with that CPU? -- Ljubomir Ljubojevic (Love is in the Air) PL Computers Serbia, Europe Google is the Mother, Google is the Father, and traceroute is your trusty Spiderman... CentOS 6, yum-updatesd
Back in the Fedora docs I found on a google, it mentions that in FC6, the preferred tool for updates was the "new" yum-updatesd. Anyone know: a) what theological reason upstream had to drop it altogether, and b) what's the recommended replacement - is it yum-cron? I hand-update some servers, and of course users' workstations, but some system, like home directory servers and

CentOS 8 apcupsd or nut and duplicity
Hello Again, Is there any update on nut or apcupsd for CentOS 8? Also, I noticed that duplicity is not currently available for CentOS 8. I got the Fedora 30 SRPM for duplicity to build on CentOS, but ran into a dependency issue and cannot find python-devel. Any suggestions on alternatives or how to get duplicity going on CentOS 8? Cheers, Ian P.

Sound drop out with totem. mplayer Can't open audio device /dev/dsp
Hey all. This morning I found that my audio playback is randomly sprinkled with sound skips and dropouts. I went to /var/log/yum.log and found this: Feb 09 20:18:22 Updated: lame-3.99.4-2.el6.rf.i686 I'm not saying that caused the problem but it's all I could find that changed. When I ls in /dev there is no dsp entry. That would explain why mplayer Can't open audio device

Centos 8 & AMD hardware?
Putting together a system build, AMD based. Ryzen 5 CPU on X570 chipset with Radeon RX480 GPU. Guessing this will be supported by Centos OK? (Unless you know different! :-) ) https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/radeon-400-series/radeon-rx-400-series/radeon-rx-480 Shows driver support. Does Centos repo's hold these drivers or do I download after the install please? TiA -- Dave

Slow login to system without internet connection
Hi. For a long time I am puzzled why, when internet connection is gone (beyond first router, outside of subnet) SSH (and telnet?) connection is drastically slowed. Same behavior, but less impacted is observed when system boots without working internet connection, and I am not sure, but I think even access to SAMBA fileshares can be/is affected. Affected systems are mostly production

Help with VMware ESXi manager for CentOS - newbie level
Hi. On my new job we use VMware ESXi (Free version), but my colleagues use Windows on their PC's. I am allowed to use CentOS Linux, but I have no prior experience with WMVare. I now (today) have to install CentOS 6.x minimal on that ESXi server, so I am trying to wrap my head around whole ecosystem. What should I install on my CentOS 6.x so I can access/manage ESXi server and manage

Multitab GUI SSH clilent found
Hi. I just wanted to notify all that I found very nice GUI SSH client at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pacmanager/ It has rpm packages and works very nice. Multi-tab, Expact support, connections tree, connection , user and password saving (I know they should not be saved). Only manual download as far as I know, no repository caries it. -- Ljubomir Ljubojevic (Love is in the Air) PL

MySQL Can't create file '/tmp/#sql2e0_98_0.frm' (errno: 9) problem
Hi. I have a strange problem. I installed cacti, and set it up. When I click on the Plugins Management, I noticed Error "FATAL: Database or Table does not exist" Further testing revealed that at the moment MySQL can not create temporary files in /tmp. It is same for ANY database! SELinux is disabled. I logged to mysql as root and error is same. Command used is: CREATE TEMPORARY

Miredo relay port question
I am bringing up a Miredo server and relay on my new iPv6 network. I have been reading the RFC and the man pages. One of the many vague points is the udp port used by the Miredo client in relay mode. Is it 'random' or is it 3545? How do I find out what it is? Plus how do I set up my server so that the Miredo server and client relay start as part of the system boot? They do now work

What method would you suggest for installing the Pinta screenshot editor on CentOS 6.4?
A screenshot editor needs to do a few things - but it must do these three things easily and well: 1. Draw curved and straight arrows, dotted or solid line, with various end dots and points 2. Draw open circles of various shapes to highlight areas of interest 3. Text easily without having to pre-define a bounding box for the ad-hoc text By far, the most powerful easy-to-use freeware screenshot
