Proposal for footnote GUID syntax
While we're talking about new syntax, I thought that I'd throw out an
idea I had to extend the footnote syntax as it currently exists in
PHP Markdown Extra.
I'm not sure that it's the best way to solve this particular problem,
but I figured I'd throw it out there to get any comments on it.
It relates to the problem of specifying a document's GUID. A few

footnote:id, colons and jquery
I just received a [bug report] for Python-Markdown complaining that
colons are used in the ids of footnotes. For reference, we [output]
the same format at PHP Markdown Extra. The general complaint is that
the colon in the id attribute (`id="fnref:1"`) causes jquery to choke
when referencing that id from javascript because jquery uses colons to
indicate pseudo elements (as does CSS). As

Dear all,
I have tried to implement PHP Markdown Extra in a forum (PunBB) and found that however well each message is translated, there are collisions when different messages in the same page have the same inside link names (footnotes, title

possible bug in PHP Markdown implementation of footnotes, as well as request for standardized XHTML output
I am glad to see support for footnotes working its way into other
implementations of Markdown!
However, I have a couple of issues.
Issue # 1. There appears to be a bug in the footnote parser that
causes material following the footnote to be included as part of the
footnote. For example:

First, take a look at the overall structure of the document.

PHP Dingus Fix
I just realised I hadn't updated the version of PHP Markdown and
Extra on the dingus as I pretended I did in my two announcements. It
is now fixed: PHP Markdown 1.0.2b7 and PHP Markdown Extra 1.1b1 can
now be tested on the dingus.

Markdown doesn't always generate XHTML
Hello everybody,
I've just noticed that markdown doesn't always generate XHTML. In
particular the input
<script src="http://evilserver.net/evil.js">
generates the output:
<p><script src="http://evilserver.net/evil.js"></p>
(This is the markdown dingus at daring fireball, and the markdownj
implementation exhibits the same problem. I

New to Markdown, Suggestion . . .
So, this is my first post, greeting, yada, yada. By way of background,
I'm a law student/former DC IT consultant and soon-to-return to the IT
field. Don't ask me why I went to law school, I have forgotten--and I
am not certain it was a good choice.
I ran across Markdown only recently, although I have always favored
ASCII as the impervious format. I'm also polishing my Python skills,

can download PHP Markdown & Extra from the project page:

the future of markdown, according to whom?
i am waiting to hear about "the future of markdown"
according to john gruber, because as far as i can see,
he's the only person who can determine that future...
sadly, however, i think i _did_ hear about it from him,
in that "i'm not gonna fuck with it" post from last week.
i know i'm certainly not _expecting_ any more from him.

peg-markdown (C) and rpeg-markdown (ruby gem)
Markdowners:
I've released version 0.4.1 of peg-markdown, a C implementation of
markdown. peg-markdown uses Ian Piumarta's peg/leg parser generator to
generate a parser from a parsing expression grammar (PEG). You can
inspect the grammar for markdown at
http://github.com/jgm/peg-markdown/tree/HEAD/markdown_parser.leg

ZIL SSD performance testing... -IOzone works great, others not so great
Hi folks,
I would appreciate it if someone can help me understand some weird
results I''m seeing with trying to do performance testing with an SSD
offloaded ZIL.
I''m attempting to improve my infrastructure''s burstable write capacity
(ZFS based WebDav servers), and naturally I''m looking at implementing
SSD based ZIL devices.
I have a test machine with the

Continued: Join domain OK, but domain not found after reboot
Hi, all:
To recap:
I can successfully get my WinXP box to join the domain (WHITEROCK), but
after rebooting, when I try to log on:
"The system cannot log you on now because the domain WHITEROCK is not
available."
I get this even when using the user 'root' - and this user was the one
to successfully join the domain WHITEROCK!!
To rule out any stale junk, my WinXP is a

Entity conversion glitch?
Hello,
Given the following text:
under a license from AT&T; however, others were based on BSD instead.
Daring Fireball's Markdown Dingus produces:
<p>under a license from AT&T; however, others were based on BSD
instead.</p>
Note how the '&' is not escaped to '&'.
Bug? Feature?
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
PA.

Footnote output not valid.
I just received a report [1] that the footnote output we use in
Python-Markdown (an exact copy of PHP Markdown Extra [3]) is not valid
HTML [3]. If you notice he's using HTML5. At least the footnote syntax
does valid on XHTML1 or HTML4. Anyway, any suggestions on how the
various footnote implementations want to move forward with this?
