E17 on CentOS6?
Hello there,
does anyone have experience setting up Enlightenment E17 on a CentOS6
system?
I know that the RPM's are available from:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/Enlightenment:/Factory/CentOS_CentOS-6/x86_64/
but don't have a single clue about how to switch from my GNOME desktop
to it once installed.
Regards,

Enlightenment E17 on CentOS 5.x ?
Hi,
Anyone knows how to install E17 on CentOS 5 ? Maybe there are packages
on some third party repo out there ? I thought about building it from
Fedora SRPMS, but before giving this a spin, I thought I'd rather ask first.
AFAIK, the CentOS-based Yellow Dog distribution uses E17 as main window
manager / desktop environment. I remember having tried out Enlightenment
- I think it was in

Good wifi NIC?
Good morning,
I'm looking for a good USB Wifi NIC that will work with the kernel modules
for a stock CentOS 8.1. I have an ALFA AWUS036ACH NIC but it looks like the
drivers need to compiler for the kernel and I'm having trouble with that.
So I'd like something that works, but not necessarily high performing, so I
can build the drivers for the ALFA NIC.
Thanks!

Having trouble updating glibc on Centos 6.3
rpm -q glibc
gives me:
glibc-2.12-1.80.el6_3.6.x86_64
However I need glibc-2.15
If I do
yum update glibc
I get:
No packages marked for Update
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Installing Centos4.3 in VMWare on XP
Evening everyone,
I'm trying to install Centos 4.3 in VMWare Workstation running
on Windows XP (my laptop). I downloaded the CD iso's to my
Linux box and burned them (I did them correctly since last time
I screwed them up). However, when I start the VM in VMWare,
it says the CD isn't bootable. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Low-memory Centos5?
Good morning,
I've inherited an old laptop from my wife that I'd like to
use when I travel (it's fairly small with a 12" screen). The
bad part is that it is maxed out on memory with 384MB.
Has anyone played with using Centos5 on systems with
little memory? Ideally, I don't need too much - Firefox,
Openoffice, a little Perl/Python/C here and there. I was
thinking about using

On the Use of the nnet Library
Dear List,
I am trying to solve a problem by the neural network method(library:
nnet). The problem is to express Weight in terms of Age , Sex and Height
for twenty people. The data frame consists of 20 observations with four
variables: Sex, Age, Height and Weight. Sex is treated as a factor, Age
and Weight are variables normalized to unity, as usual. I wanted to
construct a neural network, and so

S4 method execution time
Hello:
I have written some an elementary S4 classes around a matrix to strengthen
control of some key attributes. When I run a fairly elementary function
("f") on the matrix outside the class it runs instantaneously (elapsed
system.time = 0) but when I setMethod "f" on myClass -- returning an
instance of myClass -- it runs perceptibly slower (elapsed system.time =
.06). I

How to reference or sort rownames in a data frame
As I was working through elementary examples, I was using dataset
"plasma" of package "HSAUR".
In performing a logistic regression of the data, and making the
diagnostic plots (R-2.5.0)
data(plasma,package='HSAUR')
plasma_1<- glm(ESR ~ fibrinogen * globulin, data=plasma, family=binomial())
layout(matrix(1:4,nrow=2))
plot(plasma_1)
I find that data points

possibly a stupid question, why can I not set sharenfs="sec=krb5, rw"?
x86 snv 108
I have a pool with around 5300 file systems called home. I can do:
zfs set sharenfs=on home
however
zfs set sharenfs="sec=krb5,rw" home
complains:
cannot set property for ''home'': ''sharenfs'' cannot be set to invalid options
I feel I must be overlooking something elementary.
Thanks, Alastair

Legend positioning in scaled survival plot
I am sorry that this is another novice question. I am having trouble
using "legend" with the survival curve plot from the survival package,
and I wonder if it is because I have rescaled my plot.
Here is the relevant segment of code:

position of an element in a vector
Hello. Sorry for the elementary post. I've looked through the
documentation, but can't seem to find a function which allows one to
extract the position of an element within a list...for example the position
of the element 4 in the vector c(1,2,4,3,6) is 3. Thanks much for any help.

Thanks Bill. Do you and others think that a link to this guide (or

elementary statistics with R (rkward?)
Hi, I am trying to learn some basic statistics stuff but I cannot find any
elementary statistics exercises using R language. Using RKward would be even
better...
I need that in analysing sociological data, obtained through questionnairres -
findind corelations between variables, relations between different types of
data, etc.
Could anyone recommend simple tutorials/exercises, available on www

Naming list objects
Hi all,
I am trying to name list objects, but am having trouble doing so. At the
moment I have list alninc that has 3 objects and I can refer to them as
alninc[[1]] . . .alninc[[3]]. I would like to refer to them as alninc$F,
alninc$V and alninc$G. How do I do this? This appears to be an elementary
question, but I can't find the solution anywhere.
Thanks

When to use bootstrap confidence intervals?
Hello, I have a question regarding bootstrap confidence intervals.
Suppose we have a data set consisting of single measurements, and that
the measurements are independent but the distribution is unknown. If
we want a confidence interval for the population mean, when should a
bootstrap confidence interval be preferred over the elementary t
interval?
I was hoping the answer would be

Vector from Matrix
Dear Mailing List Members,
the problem I've been grappling with für quite some time now is the following:
I have a 100 rows x 200 columns matrix.
data.set <- matrix(rnorm(20000, 100, 200))
Now I would like to get a vector of length 100 which collects the values from the following procedure:
Take the sum of the minima of the two values from each row of columns 1 and 101, and divide it
