Be more discriminating in rescue and wrapping with StatementInvalid
Hi all, I just submitted a patch to 2-3-stable on lighthouse and wanted to bring it to folks general attention. https://rails.lighthouseapp.com/projects/8994-ruby-on-rails/tickets/896-be-a-little-more-discerning-about-which-exceptions-to-handle My explanation is a bit long-winded, but here''s the motivation for the patch, as explained in the lighthouse ticket: Perhaps I should open

[PATCH nbdkit INCOMPLETE] New filter: exitwhen: exit gracefully when an event occurs.
This incomplete patch adds a new filter allowing more control over when nbdkit exits. You can now get nbdkit to exit gracefully on certain events, such as a file being created, a pipe held open by another process going away, or when another PID exits. There is also a script option to allow for completely custom events. It is untested at the moment, I'm posting it to get feedback on the

RPy
I'm curious if there are users of RPy on this list. I've recently created a gui front end using Tkinter for some python scripts I've written for some of our internal operations and I am quite pleased with how this program works. I wonder if it is possible to also get this gui to run R functions through the use of RPy. Going even a step further, I wonder if it is possible to get this

What does SystemExit mean in this context?
I''m using the very cool Exception_Notification plugin to receive error reports. Occasionally, I get one of these: <pre> A ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid occurred in [controller]#[view]: SystemExit: exit: SELECT * FROM table WHERE (some_id = 1335) ORDER BY position LIMIT 1 [RAILS_ROOT]/vendor/rails/activerecord/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/abstract_adapter.rb:120:in

OT: Which programming language should I use?
Sorry for the OT post, just looking for a pointer from somebody who's been there and done that. I'm looking to write a program that will allow for managing documents that have been encrypted with AES. I want the program to be as cross-platform as possible, so at the least it needs to run in Win2K/WinXP and in linux X-windows (X.org). Now, I used to write in Java a few years ago, so

ActiveRecord exception handling
Hi, I''m writing some scripts on the command line using ActiveRecord, and some interesting (read: confusing) things are happening with the way exceptions are caught and re-raised. In AbstractAdapter.log (connection_adapters/abstract_adapter.rb:144), Exception is rescued and reraised as an ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid exception. While in most cases I''m sure this is fine,
