load/unload segfault puzzle
Dear r-devel readers, I have a pretty deep problem with package loading and unloading in the development version of the lme4 package <https://github.com/lme4/lme4>; it's not boiled down to a properly minimal example yet (this has been difficult), but I am posting anyway in the hopes that someone has ideas about how to proceed farther, since I'm nearly stumped. Apologies in advance

optim(…, method=‘L-BFGS-B’) stops with an error message while violating the lower bound
Hello: The development version of Ecdat on R-Forge contains a vignette in which optim(?, method=?L-BFGS-B?) stops with an error message while violating the lower bound. To see all the details, try the following: install.packages("Ecdat", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org") Then do "help(pac=Ecdat)" -> "User guides, package

R CMD check issue with soft-linked directory
I've been having some strange problems with R CMD check in the last couple of days, but now believe I have localized the issue. I had been running Ubuntu Hardy on one drive and then upgraded to Jaunty, but put Jaunty on a different drive. I continue to be able to boot Hardy when I wish. I soft-linked my R working area i.e., /home/john/Rstuff ----> /media/lnx804/home/john/Rstuff

x86_64, acml-3.5.0-gfortran64 and lme4
I am encountering segfaults when checking the lme4 package on an Athlon64 system if I use the acml blas. R was built as a 64-bit application using the GCC 4.0.3 compiler suite including gfortran. The version of acml is 3.5.0 gfortran64. I do not encounter the segfaults when I compile R with R's built-in BLAS. The errors occur in the first example in lme4 in a call to lmer. It looks like

Patchy 'front-end' package installation problems using -R- 2.15.1
I think this is the fourth attempt to send this blessed message, so let's hope this gets through without any 'unprocessed' or 'ignored' in-lines on auto-reply. I wish to report to you some strange problems I'm experiencing with installing packages directly into my -R- 2.15.1 (there is an indirect solution, which I note below). First, here's some essential information:

optim(…, method=‘L-BFGS-B’) stops with an error message while violating the lower bound
Hi, Mark et al.: Thanks, Mark. Three comments: 1. Rvmmin was one of the methods I tried after Ravi directed me to optimx. It returned NAs for essentially everything. See my email of this subject stamped 4:43 PM Central time = 21:43 UTC. 2. It would be interesting to know if the current algorithm behind optim and optimx with

I just dumped Vista off a laptop and installed Ubuntu 10.10 (latest release) as the single operating system. I did all of the updates and then installed emacs and ess. Next I installed R by following the the usual instructions on the CRAN site. At this point all is working I am now in the process of installing the packages that I normally have installed. I am having a problem with the LAPACK

calling R API functions after engine shutdown
Hi! We?ve recently come across an example where a package (minqa) creates an Rcpp Function object in a static variable. This causes R_ReleaseObject to be called by the destructor at a very late point in time - as part of the system exit function: static Function cf("c"); I?m wondering if that is considered to be ?safe?? Is the R engine supposed to stay in a state where calls to API

path to libgfortran 'hardcoded' in R?
I am using R-2.6.0 on FreeBSD 8.0-CURRENT (i386). In the last days I had problems when building packages SparseM, lme4 and randomForest. The below message shows for randomForest, that 'libgfortran' was not found. The same error appeared with SparseM and lme4. --------------------------------- R CMD INSTALL randomForest_4.5-19.tar.gz * Installing to library

[LLVMdev] gfortran: link error building gfortran on linux
Hi, in trying to build an llvm-gfortran on linux from today's gcc4 SVN, I get the following link errors that didn't show up on OS X. This is also using LLVM CVS from this morning. They appear to mostly be related to CodeWarrior compatibility code, but a couple are less obvious. What's the best way to fix this? I'm stuck without my powerbook for at least three weeks and I'd

Ah no, I'm asking what code I put inside of parkedcalls? This example works?
