deleting a directory
Hi, all, I'm looking a utility for removing a directory from within R. Currently, I'm using: foo <- function(...) { mydir <- tempdir() dir.create(mydir, showWarnings = FALSE, recursive = TRUE) on.exit(system(sprintf("rm -rf %s", mydir))) ## do some stuff in "mydir" invisible() } However, this is assumes "rm" is available. I know of

possible internal (un)tar bug
This is a not too old R-devel on Linux, it already fails in R 3.4.4, and on macOS as well. The tar file seems valid, external tar can untar it, so maybe an untar() bug. setwd(tempdir()) dir.create("pkg") cat("foobar\n", file = file.path("pkg", "NAMESPACE")) cat("this: that\n", file = file.path("pkg", "DESCRIPTION"))

Why is bubbles() creating empty png graphs?
This code below produces empty XXX.png files - if I use plot(), it works and if I enter the commands png(filename=fn) bubble(positions, do.sqrt=FALSE, main=q) dev.off() manually, it works as well. I am lost - any help appreciated. The weird thing is that it worked before I made some changes... (I don't have a copy of the working version...). R version: platform i686-pc-linux-gnu arch

unlink() on "~" removes the home directory
!!! DON'T TRY THE CODE IN THIS EMAIL AT HOME !!! Well, unlink() does what it is supposed to do, so you could argue that there is nothing wrong with it. Also, nobody would call unlink() on "~", right? The situation is not so simple, however. E.g. if you happen to have a directory called "~", and you iterate over all files and directories to selectively remove some of them,

r-2.13 fails make check
I am only reporting this because it is the current release branch and not devel. R-2.13 from svn revision 55957 builds fine, but fails make check. This happened with a fresh svn checkout 12 hours ago and it still happens as of now. Two days ago I could build R-2.13 and it passed make check on the same system, so I doubt it is a system problem. But just in case my system details are a fresh

2.0.6pre2: smbclient/tar reports inconsistent file count
I have a win dir with 143 files and 3 dirs. smbclient '\\server\dir' -Tc file.tar --> "tar: dumped 146 tar files" smbclient '\\server\dir' -Tx file.tar --> "total of 143 tar files restored to share" When tarring it reports files+dirs, when untarring it reports files only; but the data is exactly the same: 143 files and 3 dirs, they are all tarred and

CRAN indices out of whack (for at least macOS)
I have received three distinct (non-)bug reports where someone claimed a recent package of mine was broken ... simply because the macOS binary was not there. Is there something wrong with the cronjob providing the indices? Why is it pointing people to binaries that do not exist? Concretely, file https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/macosx/el-capitan/contrib/3.4/PACKAGES contains Package:

what folder to run write_PACKAGES in?
I set up a local repo for testing packages. My packages are not showing up from the repository when viewed by Linux clients. I suspect this is a web administrator/firewall issue, but it could be I created the repo wrongly. I am supposed to run write_PACKAGES separately in each R-version folder. Right? Maybe other novices can use these scripts, if they are not wrong :) Here's the file

Checking existance of a directory
Hi all, I am wondering is there any way to check whether some Directory exists or not, given the parent path of that directory? After searching for a while I found that there is a function dir.create() to create some directory. However I need to know whether such directory already exists or not, otherwise I will create that.   Thanks, [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Encrypted File Storage
Anyone got any experience/suggestions for a way to store a directory of sensitive information on a CentOS box? This directory contains many scripts and output files, I need it backed up but not unencrypted and don't want to store it in a tar file type archive as when it needs to be accessed and have scripts executed/data generated, it needs to be untarred/unencrypted and I don't know the

CRAN indices out of whack (for at least macOS)
Dirk, yes, thanks, the edge server that serves the Mac binaries to CRAN has run out of disk space (due to size of CRAN itself) so the sync was incomplete. It is fixed now -- you can try by using the macos master server as mirror: https://r.research.att.com/ and it will propagate through other mirrors as usual. [LLVMdev] Installing binary gcc-4.0 frontend on x86-linux: where is llvm-gcc?
Hi all, I recently downloaded the gcc 4 frontend from: http://llvm.org/releases/1.8/llvm-gcc4-1.8-x86-linux.tar.gz I checked out the source from CVS using: cvs -d :pserver:anon at llvm.org:/var/cvs/llvm login cvs -z3 -d :pserver:anon at llvm.org:/var/cvs/llvm co llvm Running the configure script fails to find llvm-gcc. Inspecting the untarred frontend, it doesn't contain any such binary,
