tk + browser() can leave R unresponsive
I don't know if this is a bug. I can reproduce the following on Ubuntu
12.04.2 and 13.04 64-bit with R version 3.0.1 and with r63479. There
is no difference if R is patched with the fix for PR#15407 or not,
although without the fix there are more ways to trigger this.
I can reproduce with the following:
1. Open R in gnome-terminal or xterm
2. Run 'library(tcltk)'
3. Run

duplication regression (?)
Below is an example of output that changed as a result of r64970. I
did not see any NEWS item suggesting this change is expected.
Note that the example is contrived and I don't have a use case for it.
I stumbled across it when playing with recent changes in R relating to
duplication. Does the example use undefined syntax?

Turn warnings or notes into errors on CMD check ?
Hi,
I am using a local patch to have CMD check exit with error if there is
a note or warning. Am I missing an already existing way to do this?
If not, Is there any interest in having an option or environment
variable for this upstream? I would be interested in making a patch.
If so, option or environment variable? Any suggestions for the name?
Should this be two options or one option with

[patch] Add support for editor function in edit.default
Regarding the following extract of ?options:
?editor?: a non-empty string, or a function that is called with a
file path as argument.
edit.default currently calls the function with three arguments: name,
file, and title. For example, running the following
vimCmd <- 'vim -c "set ft=r"'
vimEdit <- function(file_) system(paste(vimCmd, file_))

tools::md5sum(directory) behavior different on Windows vs. Unix
tools::md5sum gives a warning if it receives a directory as an
argument on Unix but not on Windows.
>From what I understand, this happens because in Windows a directory is
not treated as a file so fopen returns NULL. Then, NA is returned
without a warning. On Unix, a directory is treated as a file so fopen
does not return NULL so md5 is run and fails, leading to a warning.
This is a good

[PATCH] minor suggestions for R-ints manual
Attached is a patch with minor suggestions for the R-ints manual at
r64048. The most substantial change is the following:
The top layer comprises the graphics subsystems. Although there is
-provision for 24 subsystems, after 6 years only two exist, `base' and
+provision for 24 subsystems, since 2001 only two exist, `base' and
`grid'.
Is the year 2001 correct? I base it on the date

Encourage exit with nonzero error status in ?last.dump
The following example in ?dump.frames
options(error = quote({dump.frames(to.file = TRUE); q()}))
is useful for teaching the user how to save a frame dump when R
encounters an error during non-interactive sessions. This command
however causes an additional change that on encountering an error R
exits with a 0 error status. Although it's just an example, it's an
important one as it's

[PATCH] suggestions for R-lang manual
Attached is a patch with suggestions for the R-lang manual at r64277.
Below are a few comments (some are implemented in the patch):
In the section "Objects", there is a table introduced by "The
following table describes the possible values returned by typeof". One
of the results is "any". Can "any" be returned by "typeof()" ?

Rscript Bug Report (improper parsing of [args])
Hi,
A user of my `optparse` package discovered a bug in Rscript's parsing of
[args]. (https://github.com/trevorld/optparse/issues/24)
I've reproduced the bug on my machine including compiling and checking the
development version of R. I couldn't find a mention of it in the Bug
Tracker or New Features.
Can be minimally reproduced on the UNIX command line with following
commands:

Cannot use setClass() in Rscript
Greetings,
I am creating a standalone executable script using Rscript and have run
into problems when I define a new S4 class. Here is a small script that
demonstrates my problem:
#!/usr/bin/env Rscript

# toy.Rscript -- testing S4 class creation in an Rscript

A question about using getSrcDirectory() with R/Rscript
Good morning R-help,
I have an idiot question: I would like to use getSrcDirectory()
and friends to allow me to identify where an R file has been
called from when invoked using Rscript. If I understand the
documentation correctly, the following example should work:
In file test.R:
options(keep.source=T)
fn<-function(x){x<-x+1}
srcDir<-getSrcDirectory(fn)
print(srcDir)

Rscript path problem on R 2.13.1 for Ubuntu 11.04?
Dear all,
finally decided to do an Ubuntu upgrade and a new clean R install from
http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/.
However, while trying to install a package from R-forge I encountered
problems, involving error messages saying "Rscript execution error: No
such file or directory" (see below).
The same procedure works on Ubuntu 11.04 running R 2.12.1-1 from the

Rscript.Rd example (PR#9644)
One of the examples in Rscript.Rd seems mis-formatted, in that the
format statement is incomplete:
## Not run:

Both Rscript.Rd in R 2.5.0 and the version at:
https://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/src/library/utils/man/Rscript.Rd
have
Rscript -e 'date()' -e 'format(Sys.time(), "%a %b %d %X %Y")'

problem with Rscript
Hi all, this is probably some tricky configuration file problem, but I
figure someone here might have come across this in the past:
In short, I've been using Rscript to run my scripts, usually
successfully. But recently I've run into a strange problem, and the
only function that causes an error is "print".
I can create a file that contains only a print command, and it causes

I am trying to use multiple version of R unpacked from CRAN deb files.
It does work successfully, except for some packages installation, whether
Rscript has been used. I have configured alternatives and switch R
environments without any problem and can install most of the packages.

Bug in RScript.exe for 3.5.0
Thanks Tomas.
I confirm the quick workaround works for me in the DOS prompt, and when having a shortcut to RScript in SendTo, and when used in the Task Scheduler. I have not tested the R-devel version, due to my unfamiliarity with installing from source code.

names in Rscript -e
Hi,
I seem to have a problem when passing named parameters to R via Rscript (R2.5.1, bash shell). As soon as I name elements of a list Rscript generates an error.
I will appreciate if someone could point to me a correct way of doing this.
Thanks,
Vadim
## This works

quotes in Rscript -e through system
I figured out how to use quotes and parentheses when using Rscript -e (on a
bash shell):
Rscript -e write\(1,\"a.txt\"\)
--> Question 1: why do the parentheses need to be escaped in the shell?
(More a shell than an R question)
Then I figured out how to use quotes and parentheses when calling Rscript
through system:
system('Rscript -e write\\(1,\\\'a.txt\\\'\\)')
