loadNamespace and useDynLib
I am considering a package with a namespace (Rgraphviz from Bioc). I essentially want to have some error handling for loading the dll, something like wrapping it into tryCatch or similar (reason: see below). Right now I am loading the dynamic libraries by useDynLib in my NAMESPACE file. When I look at the code from loadNamespace, I have the impression that what I want is impossible

library.dynam
hi, i'm having some trouble getting a package to load a shared library object in .onLoad(...) i have a shared object file, say "mylib.so". if i start an R session, and via the CLI specify the actual library via: > dyn.load("mylib.so") everything works quite well (i.e. i can then follow with some .Call (...) methods) now, i'd like to include this shared library in

package.skeleton from within function: objects not found
Hi all, I ran into a strange error: I am trying to create a package skeleton for a new source package from within a function. Objects that are created in this function are to be included in my package, but for some reason, I get an error message saying that these objects cannot be found. Here is the code: ###### myfun <- function(pkgName,x){ myenv <- new.env() apply(x, 1,

Finding dynamic shared libraries loaded with a package
Is there a way to query a package to see what dynamic shared libraries are loaded with it? The reason I ask is because during development, I want to unload libraries so that they can be reloaded without restarting R. I want to make it automatic so that you can just pass in the name of the package, and it will unload all the relevant shared libraries. Typically, the name of the shared library is

useDynLib in older versions e.g. (2.10)
Hi, Has something changed regarding the useDynLib in the NAMESPACE file in packages? I've written a package that works in e.g. 2.12/2.13 but simply cannot find the dynamic library under windows. The version on CRAN is older than the one I'm talking about and depends on a newer version of R but I want to make the package available to people with older versions. >

Newbie creating package with compiled code
Hi R Gurus! I'm trying to create a test package using the package.skeleton function. I wanted to add some compiled code too. In the src library, I put together a baby subroutine, compiled it and created a test.dll When I use the R cmd build, it works fine. But I get into trouble with the R CMD check section. /home/Desktop/R-2.5.1/bin # ./R CMD check mypkg * checking for working latex ...

Windows batchfiles 0.7-1
A new version of the Windows batchfiles is available. CHANGES The key change is the new R.bat utility. R.bat has a new interface and extended functionality covering many of the other prior utilities. installing package with version number using namespaces & dynamic library
Hi, I wonder whether a package with namespace & dynamic library can be installed with the version number attached, ie. with the argument --with-package-versions. Is this currently possible? Using R 1.9.1 on Debian 3.0 I encounter a problem when trying to load a package installed with R91 CMD INSTALL --with-package-versions -l /mnt/local/R/R-1.9.x-libs-EpiR RIO in R started with R91

R CMD check not running examples under Windows
All, I have a fresh build of R 2.8.0 from source on Windows XP using the latest Rtools binary (Rtools29.exe). All appears to be well with the install and make check-all exits cleanly. However, when running R CMD check mypkg the program jumps from checking for non-ASCII to checking the PDF version of the manual: * checking data for non-ASCII characters ... OK * checking PDF version of manual

GNU tar does not ignore files in .Rbuildignore (PR#1339)

Depends vs Imports
I am being asked to modernize the Depends line in the DESCRIPTION file of some packages. Writing R Extensions says: The general rules are Packages whose namespace only is needed to load the package using library(pkgname) must be listed in the ?Imports? field and not in the ?Depends? field. Packages listed in imports or importFrom directives in the NAMESPACE file should

R_using non linear regression with constraints
I've seen a number of problems like this over the years. The fact that the singular values of the Jacobian have a ration larger than the usual convergence tolerances can mean the codes stop well before the best fit. That is the "numerical analyst" view. David and Jeff have given geometric and statistical arguments. All views are useful, but it takes some time to sort them all out and

problem building a package with C code (PR#13572)
Hi, my name is Paula. Im trying to learn how to build an R package in Windows XP using a simple example which includes a C source code. The foo.c file is located in mypkg/src/foo.c. I used the command Rcmd build --force --binary [pkgpath]. The problem is when I install the zip file in R the function foo doesn?t exist. Solved two problems with Cygwin
While installing software on a new computer, I thought I would try to use Cygwin to build an R package. (Note: NOT Ripley/Murdoch's Rtools). I uncovered and solved two issues, one of which appears to be identical to a problem previously reported (and unsolved) on this list. I offer this information in case it will be helpful. (1) Cygwin defaults to UNIX mode when installed, but it appears
