segfault issue with parallel::mclapply and download.file() on Mac OS X
I have an lapply function call that I want to parallelize. Below is a very
simplified version of the code:
url_base <- "https://cloud.r-project.org/src/contrib/"
files <- c("A3_1.0.0.tar.gz", "ABC.RAP_0.9.0.tar.gz")
res <- parallel::mclapply(files, function(s) download.file(paste0(url_base,
s), s))
Instead of download a couple of files in parallel, I get a

[PATCH v2] resize: support non-local output disks (RHBZ#1404182)
Parse the output disk as URI, and use all its attributes just like
it is done for the input disk. The only change is that the fsync of the
output disk is limited now for local URIs only, since it will not work
with remote protocols.

Problem with xtable- rescaling a table
Dear R users,
I am new to Latex and I am using the R package xtable to generate tables.
I want to produce a table that is very long. in the landscape format, but
I would need to rescale the table so that it fits in the page. xtable
enables me to have the landscape format, but I cannot rescale it, and there
seems to be a problem, if I use scalebox in Latex on my output produced
with stable and the

ctags(1) command execution vulnerability
Hello,
ctags(1) uses external application sort(1) for sorting the tags file.
It calls it via system(3) function.
Look at the /usr/src/usr.bin/ctags/ctags.c file, there are such lines
here:
if (uflag) {
(void)asprintf(&cmd, "sort -o %s %s",
outfile, outfile);
if (cmd == NULL)
err(1, "out of space");
system(cmd);
free(cmd);
cmd = NULL;

need help with renaming a variable
Hello.
I am new to R, so my question/problem might be very basic, but I cannot
figure out how to solve it.
So, I would really appreciate your help.
I would like to rename a variable in a very large file (181GB) called
"2013.xdf" that is saved on my external hard drive.
I tried running the following code to rename variable # 2 in the file and
save this change, which produced some

Open file for reading and writing with APPEND
Hi,
I want to keep a running file of some statistics generated by a running process. Occasionally the process will be restarted.
On restart, I'd like to read the last line of the log file to set some variables to their last state, and then continue to append values to that same file.
I can't seem to get the appending part to work. I can read values form the file, but then upon the

write.xls
Hello, All:
The "writeFindFn2xls" function in the "sos" package tries to
write an Excel file with 3 sheets ('PackageSum2', 'findFn', 'call').
Unfortunately, it is often unable to do this because of configuration
problems that are not easy to fix. I've found 3 contributed packages
that provide facilities to write Excel files with

Append to outfile in R CMD BATCH mode
Is there a way to append to the outfile when using R CMD BATCH? My code, right now, is:
R CMD BATCH --slave --vanilla '--args place .2 -.1 .9 .6' StratificationSimulation example.output
Everything else is working the way I'd like it. The first few lines of code of my script file are:

If I use png() to save a plot I lose the main title.

Quicktime 2 Theora Transcoder's Nano-Howto
After a bunch of cumbersome testing I was able to transcode a Quicktime
MOV file to OGG with theora and Vorbis. The method's a bit fumbly, but
it works... It is automatable except for the initial audio decoding.
Software used: Xine, oggenc, ffmpeg, ffmpeg2theora, oggzmerge
Step 1: Get the video out of Quicktime
ffmpeg -i infile.mov -b 5000 -f mpeg2video outfile.mpg
Step 2: Get the video

Problem using ofstream in C++ class in package for MacOS X
Dear all,
I am currently learning how to create R packages using C++ classes.
For this purpose I have written a small package MyClass (which I try
to attach since I do not have access to a website).
MyClass has methods WriteFileC() and WriteFileCpp() which implement
C-style and C++-style writing of a table to a file using FILE or
ofstream respectively, and the corresponding R-functions

However, this obviously won't work:
system("awk '{$3=$4="";gsub(" ","");print}' myfile > outfile")
and this won't either:

decode in ppc 2003
Hi,
My problem is at the second fread function,
fread(&nbBytes, sizeof(int), 1, fin); //the first fread
fread(cbits,1, nbBytes, fin);// the second fread.
When I'm debugging always nbytes is greater than cbits. This give me a
execution error.
Thanks.
Rodrigo.
