CRAN testing
Is the mechanism by which packages are tested on CRAN described
anywhere? Is it by any chance written in R? The FastR
<https://bitbucket.org/allr/fastr/wiki/Home> team is interested in
running a virtual CRAN where we can test all the CRAN packages on FastR.
Thanks

FastR
Dear all,
at UseR! 2013, the FastR project was announced by Tomas Kalibera, Petr Maj, and Jan Vitek. FastR is an implementation of the R programming language in Java using AST interpretation and specialisation for improved performance. Since, the implementation has been extended to support JIT compilation, leading to performance improvements.
The goal of the project is to further the R community

vignette index going AWOL
I?m preparing a package (fastR) for submission to CRAN, but the vignette index keeps going AWOL, or at least R CMD check ?as-cran thinks so. I?ve tried several things and gave myself the weekend to think of other things, but I can?t figure it out. Perhaps someone on the list can lend a hand.
Here?s one example situation, where I build the index.html file myself and put it in inst/doc/index.html

Help with libiconv problem
A couple of my colleagues are having problems building R-3.2.4 on Mac OS
X El Capitan somehow related to libiconv. I personally don't have any
problems on either of my Macs. I'm hoping thie make log might trigger
something in the readers of this list:
gcc -dynamiclib -Wl,-headerpad_max_install_names -undefined

validates :uniqueness apparently doesn't
ruby 2.0.0p0 (2013-02-24 revision 39474) [x86_64-darwin12.3.0]
Rails 3.2.13
I have a validates ... :uniqueness constraint on one of the attributes
of an ActiveRecord class.
In my test suite, I set the attribute from the same attribute in a
record in the fixture. I then send invalid? to the object under test.
invalid? returns _false_, and the .errors object for the record shows no
errors.

Packages not found
Dear all,
On the CRAN website http://cran.r-project.org/ it is currently not
possible to get to the packages. Clicking on "Packages" or on
"Contributed extension packages" results in Error 404: Object not
found!, see: http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/
Best regards,
Christian

multiple versions
Can anyone suggest a good way to handle multiple versions of R
and also other tools like gcc and perl (in Unix). I have been
using soft links from my personal bin to the version I want to
use, but this has some drawbacks. With this scheme it is
difficult to run different versions of R in different windows,
and use of gcc appears to be complicated in several respects when

R broken after upgrade to 2.15.3 (Ubuntu 12.10, 64bit)
Hi,
I am using R on Ubuntu 12.10 (64bit). This morning, Ubuntu's software
updater automatically installed updates to R's base system (version
2.15.3; via the CRAN PPA). Now R does not work anymore. Here is what I
get when I simply enter "R" on the shell prompt:

Memory usage reported by gc() differs from 'top'
In help(gc) I read, "...the primary purpose of calling 'gc' is for the
report on memory usage".
What memory usage does gc() report? And more importantly, which memory
uses does it NOT report? Because I see one answer from gc():

[LLVMdev] Questions about attaching DWARF source code debugging information to generated LLVM-IR.
I upgraded my versions of llvm, clang and compiler-rt to the top-of-tree versions from last night (r180162, April 24).
I recompiled debug versions of llvm, clang and my code.
I then regenerated my test case and the results were the same - I can list lines of dwarf1.lsp in lldb but I can't set break-points or do anything else (what else should I be able to do?).

vignette/knitr help
Dear Mick,
knitr doesn't depends on rmarkdown. It's the vignette that depends on
both knitr (for handle the R chunks) and rmarkdown (for the output
format rmarkdown::html_vignette).
https://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/r-release/R-exts.html#Package-Dependencies
states: "The ?Suggests? field ...snip... lists packages that are not
necessarily needed. This includes packages used
