coercing a list to a data frame, lists in foreloops
I have a set of time-series climate data with missing entries. I need to add
rows for these missing entries to this data set. The only way I know to do
this is unsing a foreloop, but this won't work on a list. I've tried to
convert the list to a data frame, but that won't happen, either.
I want to fill rows in this table:

comparison operator, decimals, and signif()
Hi, I recently spent quite a bit of time trouble
shooting a function that I had written only to
discover that the problem I was having was with the
comparison operator. I assumed that the following
would return TRUE:
> testMean <- 82.8 + 0.1
> testMean
[1] 82.9
> testMean == 82.9
[1] FALSE
Apparently this has to do with deciml places. Look:

How to apply functions over rows of multiple matrices
Dear ExpRts,
I would like to perform a function with two arguments
over the rows of two matrices. There are a couple of
*applys (including mApply in Hmisc) but I haven't found
out how to do it straightforward.
Applying to row indices works, but looks like a poor hack
to me:
sens <- function(test, gold) {
if (any(gold==1)) {
sum(test[which(gold==1)]/sum(which(gold==1)))
} else NA
}

MP3 encoding of Monitor files
I have having problems trying to take a file recorded with Monitor and
convert it to MP3. When I use 'play' to play the .wav file, it sounds
fine. After bladenc'ing it, it plays at lightening speed, and the voices
are all high pitch. I tried using sox to resample to 32000 before
encoding, but that didnt work either. Do any of you convert your .wav
files to mp3?

convert string to AR class
Hi everyone,
I''m trying to convert a string passed on the command-line into an
ActiveRecord class, so I can do something like this.
a="SomeClass"
a.find(:all)
where
class SomeClass < ActiveRecord::Base
end
This appears to work (better ways would be appreciated):
a="SomeClass"
b=eval a
b.find(:all)
However I would like to make sure

Upgrading a package to which other packages are LinkingTo
Hi
I'd like to suggest to make R more informative when a user updates a
package A where there's at least one package B that has "LinkingTo: A"
in its description.
To illustrate the problem, assume package A is updated so that its C/C++
header interface (in inst/include) is changed. For package B to pick up
these changes, we need to reinstall package A. In extreme cases, if

getParseData() for installed packages
I can't seem to reliably obtain parse data via getParseData() for
functions from installed packages. The parse data seems to be available
only for the *last* file in the package.
See [1] for a small example package with just two functions f and g in
two files a.R and b.R. See [2] for a documented test run on installed
package (Ubuntu 15.10, UTF-8 locale, R 3.2.3). Same behavior with

Emails not visible after renaming folders
Hello,
I have strange problem with "losing" emails after rename mail
folder(s) (via imap client: thunderbird, roundcude, etc..)
How to reproduce:
1. Create some folder name, like TEST
2. Create sub-folder under TEST (like SUBTEST)
Structure:
TEST
|--SUBTEST
# doveadm mailbox list -u postmaster at testmailbox
Spam
Trash
Sent
Drafts
INBOX
TEST
TEST/SUBTEST
3. Move (or copy)

acts_as_taggable with single-table inheritance?
Does anyone have any experience making this work? I installed the
plugin and tried the following:
class SomeClass < ActiveRecord::Base
acts_as_Taggable
end
class SubClass1 < SomeClass
end
class SubClass2 < SomeClass
end
SubClass1.tag_with("tag")
and notice that taggable_type = SomeClass
when I do SubClass2.find_tagged_with("tag") a SubClass1 object is

VERY basic question about S4 classes
Hi,
I'm new to R and S4 classes. I defined a class with two methods (myMethod1 and myMethod2). I want to call myMethod1 within myMethod2. Why does the code below not work? The name 'myMethod1' doesn't appear to have meaning inside myMethod2, even though the two methods belong to the same class.

initalizing and checking validity of S4 classes
Dear useRs and wizaRds,
I am currently developing a set of functions using S4 classes. On the way I encountered the problem exemplified with the code below. For some reason the 'validity' method does not seem to work, i.e. does not check for errors in the specification of the slots of the defined class. Any hints?
My understanding of the whole S4 system was that validity checks are made

using modules with models?
I''m trying to figure out how to use modules with my model classes.
I''m going to have good number of model classes that don''t map to the
database, and I''d like to put some of these in seperate modules. I''ve
been wrestling with this for 2 days and can''t figure out how to get it
to work. Rails seems to handle it fine for controllers, though.

puppet-cleaner: makes puppet DSL code comply with a subset of the style guide
FWIW,
I''ve wrote puppet-cleaner to help me make comply thousands of lines of
puppet 2.6 DSL code to puppet 2.7 style guide and expectations. I''m
uploading it to github today for anyone to use.

Externally, you run puppet-clean file.pp and it can transform this:

Request to review a patch for rpart
Dear list
For my work, it would be helpful if rpart worked seamlessly with an
empty model:
library(rpart); rpart(formula=y~0, data=data.frame(y=factor(1:10)))
Currently, an unrelated error (originating from na.rpart) is thrown.
At some point in the near future, I'd like to release a package to CRAN
which uses rpart and relies on that functionality. I have prepared a
patch (minor

two small wishes (with code sugegstions) for R-core
Dear R developers,
It would be great if you could implement the two minor code changes suggested below, which would help processing large objects in R.
Jens Oehlschl?gel
# Wish no. 1: let [.AsIs return the class AFTER subsetting, not the class of the original object
# Wish no. 2: adjust write.csv and write.csv2 for multiple calls in chunked writing
# Rationale no. 1: a couple of packages
