Tombstone Lifetime in samba 4.5+
Dear list,
Does anybody know how to lower the tombstone lifetime in samba 4.5 or
later? There used to be a wiki entry, but this has been deleted as it is
probably not adequate anymore:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Restoring_deleted_AD_objects#Changing_the_defaults_for_msDS-deletedObjectLifetime_and_tombstoneLifetime
I used to change the attribute tombstoneLifetime in CN=Directory

migrate openldap to centos 7 server..
I hope this isnt terribly off-topic, but Im trying to migrate openldap from an old 32bit install
of gentoo linux to 64bit centos 7. Ive searched and found all kinds of info on migrating, but
none if it seems to work completely for me.
It seems that the newer centos 7 opendlap config doesnt use the slapd.conf file any more.
So It appears I need two ldif files. one for the config and one for the

New Wiki HowTo: Restoring deleted AD objects
Hello,
after 2 month of being offline, I finally got a working internet
connection again and can announce myself back to continue working on
HowTos in the Wiki. :-)
During the last time, I did a lot of research about the possibilities
and limitations of restoring deleted objects in a Samba AD. I think it
is a very helpfull topic for administrators. The results I wrote down in
a new HowTo:

Pretec Allegro does not appear to play Oggs
Can I change the wiki? The box claims it plays oggs, the tech. specs. in
the booklet claims it plays oggs, *some* places on the website claims it
supports oggs, but it doesn't actually play my oggs. Can I move it to a
"misadvertised" section, or a "rumours" section, or what can I do to
indicate this to other people, so they don't accidentaly buy it?

Samba 3 to Samba 4 migration
I have a production Samba 3 installation with an LDAP backend. CentOS 5.8,
OpenLDAP. Works well.
I have a new Samba 4 installation with a different domain name on a new
CentOS 6.2 system, using Samba4.0.0beta and bind 9.9. This system does not
have Samba 3 or OpenLDAP installed. This installation passes all of the
initial kerberos, ldap and dns tests. The name was changed because this

permissions problems
I am obviously confused about something, and feel like I am chasing
ghosts. Any help or clarification would be appreciated.
When a user logs in we get messages about corrupt recycle bins.
Setting the logging to level 2 for that client, we have errors like:

Why do not prevent users from creating a local copy of c() ?
Hi all,
sometime in the past I accidentaly created a copy of the c()
primitive function inside my ``laboratory'' workspace, which I
normally use to experiment and learn. As a consequence, c() stopped to
work correctly and started to return lists of symbols instead of
vectors, and today I had to spend much time to seek out that the problem
was in that specific workspace (if only I had

OpenLDAP Problem
Everyone,
We currently are running a Centos3 directory server, I am currently
testing centos4 as an upgrade of this machine in the future. There is a
special user we have called cn=samba,ou=special in our directory, this
user is for samba to use when binding to the directory. On the
production replica server, i have taken an offline slapcat ldif of the
entire tree. I then copied this file to

Is it possible to prevent users from ever deleting anything?
Hi, dear dovecot-users,
is it possible to make dovecot ignore the DELETE command for some accounts?
Basically what I want to achieve is: users shall not be able to delete their
emails - but they still should be able write emails.
This is meant for a setup where different users are sending and receiving
emails for a "support" account.
I looked into IMAP virtual folders and ACL but I

Openldap for PDC
I have been testing with openldap_2.2.13-2 and have experience on 2
occasions lockups where the ldap server does not respond (slapcat will
just hang). I have upgraded to openldap_2.2.13-4.
Is there a recommended version of openldap for SambaPDC?
Does anyone have a system in production using openldap_2.2.13-2 or
openldap_2.2.13-4?
I'm currently using samba3-20b any recommendations for a

Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team,
The OpenLDAP stuff on this page:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html
is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb.
See:
http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085
"ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm,
ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage;

Windows XP joining Samba/LDAP domain problem (User cannot be found) [SOLVED]
To anyone out there who's having problems joining their Samba/LDAP
domain with XP here's a solution. The main symptom is that the XP join
domain gui returns a "user cannot be found" error. The setup that I
experienced this on was configured and managed using the smbldap-tools
package. Usual disclaimer applies if it fails to work, you are
responsible for backing up your

[samba4] DNS updates
Hi all,
I would like to be able to rely on samba given tools to manage my DNS
entries but until now, I failed.
>From what I have understood there is one and only one tool responsible to
update DNS: samba_dnsupdate.
Is that previous affirmation true?
I had issue with DNS backend set to internal DNS server: samba_dnsupdate
was almost never working.
So I switched to Bind-DLZ as advised here

Yet another "Can I change user's SID" question
Good evening team,
I have read lots of topics and posts explaining why you *shouldn't*
manually change a user's SID on the databases, and I agree with the
"phylosophical" reasons behind it, let's say.
Now, what happens if besides all the warnings you still do it?? What else
might break, considering that we are careful enough to not enter a
duplicate, or obvious errors? I

Some questions about mdbox
Hello
I am starting testing with dovecot 2.0.9. In my //etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf/ I have the following line:
/mail_location = mdbox:/mydomain.org/%2.26Hn/%2.200Hn/%n:INDEX=/mydomain.org/indexes/%2.26Hn/%2.200Hn/%n/
These are my questions (a long mail):
*1? How should I restore from backup with mdbox & separate indexes?*
I have read in dovecot list archive about restoring the full
