Doing ADUC-like operations with the command line
Hi all, is there a simple way to do certain ADUC-operations using the command line in Samba 4.1.9? samba-tool doesn't seem to cover all operations. The operations I'd require are: Assigning a user to an OU and modifying some of the users attributes, like the home directory, UNIX attributes, etc. Kind regards, Andreas

vfs_recycle and permissions
Hi, at our site we are using Samba 4.1.8 as an AD controller and on another machine as member server and all is working fine so far. Now I want to provide recycle repositories for some shares on the member server, so I set vfs objects = acl_xattr recycle recycle:keeptree = yes in the corresponding share sections in smb.conf on the member server. The problem is that the subdirectories created in

log.samba failure messages
Hi, in our Samba 4.1.6 AD setup (a Controller and a Member Server), the only remaining error messages are similar to the following three in log.samba on the Controller: *** 1 *** [2014/04/17 15:28:54.647621, 0] ../source4/dns_server/dns_utils.c:282(dns_replace_records) Deleting record failed; 50 *** 2 *** [2014/04/18 09:10:12.046449, 0]

Running an NT4 PDC and an ADC side by side
Dear List, I'm planning to migrate an existing Samba 3.4.7 NT4-domain (our.site.com) to a Samba 4.1.6 AD-domain (ad.our.site.com) on another machine. Our site currently has about 30 clients and 50 user accounts. My plan is to setup the ADC on the other machine and to migrate the user accounts using the Samba4 classicupgrade tool. I would then newly setup groups, permissions, etc. on the new

access denied with "hide dot files = Yes"
Hello, at our site we're using the revision control software Mercurial. A typical workflow scenariao is that we have a Mercurial repository on a Samba AD Member share and the users pull and push commits to this central repository. This workflow is broken as of Samba 4.3.4. When doing certain operations (pull or push) on the central repository on the Samba share, Mercurial complains that it

ignoring malformed3 datagram packet
Hi, after quite some testing I do now have my Samba4 setup in production use. The setup mainly consists of an AD-Controller and an AD Member Server which provides file shares to about 20 Windows 7 clients. Everything is working well so far except for two somewhat 'special' clients. For these I observe the following: 1) On the AD Member Server periodically (every hour) appears a message in

How to use alias interface ?
HiHo, I'm using wine since a couple of years for a private Diablo game server. Now, while installing a new server I've a problem where neither the Wine-Doc nor the Wine-Faq or Google could help me in any way. My problem with the new server is that I need to configure (or better restrict) my wine to use my alias-interface instead of the primary one. I already found the following stuff

network drives
Another nicety may be handling network drives. I''ve been using a ruby script which manipulate using the "net use" command to map network drives, disconnect network drives, query to see what drives are connected, etc..., but it''d be sweet if this type of functionality was included in win32 package. Maybe usage like: nd = Win32::NetworkDrive.new(

I have a setup where I know which users are on which ip, and I wan't to notify some events to some users with a "smbclient -M". But since I don't know the computername, I don't know any way to send the popups... thanks /torben t

DNS issue with clean install of samba 4.5.12-Debian
Hai Mike, I post it to the list so everybody can learn from it. > Why you use "hostname -i" ? man hostname wil tell.. But i'll try to explain it a bit. Read the Description, its also about how the hostnames are resolved within the systemfuntions. Like gethostname and gethostbyname > root at ad51:~# hostname -i > 127.0.0.1 > root at ad51:~# hostname -I >

ActiveComputerName vs ComputerName
Hi! ComputerName and ActiveComputerName are values from registry (HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ComputerName\). If I use `wine regedit` to set ActiveComputerName to any value after a short time it becomes equal to the value of ComputerName. Can I set ActiveComputerName different than ComputerName? P.S. I have wine-1.3.13 and UseDnsComputerName=N.

Bruker Topspin 3.1
Hello everybody! Started to install wine today and I have to say - Great work. Nevertheless I ran into some problems while trying to install Bruker Topspin 3.1 (Scientific NMR Analysis Tool). But unfortunately I cannot install it. I have seen that there is a topic about an old Topspin version but it didn't help me. As I am starting to get familiar with wine the chance is great that the

Unix Attributes in Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) tool
I am using a Samba 4.1.16 as an Active Directory domain controller. After a lot of time complaining to myself that my users' properties sheet in ADUC did not contain the Unix Attributes tab, it finally occurred to me that I should look again into Windows 7 >> Control Panel >> Programs and Features >> Turn Windows Features on and off. Lo and behold, there it is: under

3rd-party tool for creating users as alternative to ADUC
Hello list, I am using the Microsoft ADUC (Active Directory Users & Computers) tool from the RSAT suite for creating and modifying my domain users. I am aware of the "copy" functionality which really is very nice to use. Unfortunately I am missing two important actions during the user-creation process which I try to describe: 1.) When I use the template feauture (by using the
