suggestions for a "fast" fileserver - 1G / 10G
Hi, I'm looking for some recommendations for a "fast" fileserver regarding the hardware you use. We have different fileservers as our requirements changed over time. The "main" problem we are faced with is, that with smb (windows 7 and OS X) clients we never get really close to GBit speed on reads or writes. Using the same servers/storages with ftp, ssh, rsync, nfs we

Intel 10G X520-2 and iscsi storage poor performance
Hi, we have a storageserver (Centos 6.4) with a dualport Intel 10G X520-2 Adapter. A QSan P600Q-D316 Storage is configured with 8*SATA Drives raid 5 for test, connected trought a Cisco UCS 6100 Series Fabric Interconnect 10G Switch. I formated the storage with ext4 defaults, one volume and got r/w rates about 10MB/s some up to 40MB/s .... VERY POOR.... So we returned the storage to our dealer

Debugging/optimizing LAN/Fileserver Performance
Hi, I do have one fileserver, which is compared to other systems slow when transferring file through the lan. The test I did get a transfer speed of about 70 - 80 MB/s. I copy files by rsync or scp from a SSD disk to the servers ISCSI Storage and I tested to copy to a serverside RAM disk. I copy one big file of about 2/10 GB; 2 is to the RAM disk. The point is, the mentioned one server just

smbd 3.6.9-151 Red Hat EL 6 crashes from time to time
Hi, we still run a Red Hat EL 6.x samba-3.6.9-151 PDC with domain login, roaming profiles, Windws 7 clients and LDAP back end. In the last couple of weeks we notice some unregular crashes with abrt reports. But as an university our RH subscription dose not include the full support. I cant see any changes to the installation or configuration which might have an influence to the chrashes. So any

How to allow users to be local admin
Hi, it's some time that I had to touch our samba installation and may be somewon can point me to the right direction. We run a samba-3.6.9 PDC with ldap backend and windows 7 clients. Everything for normal users is working fine (domain logon, roaming profiles). But now we'd like to enable our systemadministartors to login to any workstation with there domain user and install software or

Old Samba 3.x server as a Samba 4 AD member.
Hi everyone, we plan on setting up a Samba 4.x based AD. We have a couple of ancient to old systems running samba 3.0.24 to 3.5.7 and 3.6.24. Is there any problem to integrate those old systems as member of a Samba 4-driven AD? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Emmanuel Florac | Direction technique | Intellique

Moving users from a Samba 3.6 to 4.9 (tdb)
Hello, I have an old 3.6 server to be replaced with a new 4.9 one. They are standalone, using tdbsam backend. I copied system users and group, then /var/lib/samba/*.tdb from the old to the new one. However, obviously the newer samba absolutely doesn't care about my old user database. "pdbedit -L" returns nothing on the new server. Is there some upgrade step I'm missing here?

Suggestions for upgrading dovecot 1.0.7 Redhat EL 5.x
Hi, we still have our solid rock dovecot 1.0.7 Redhat el 5.x up and running. We don't need much magic or special setups. However we'd like to think what might be the next step in upgrading our setup. Each user one mbox mailbox. About 500 imap/pop3 accounts, 400GB data. First of all: to what version is a good step from 1.0? Can we get a rpm from e.g. atrpms repository? Dose anyone has

4 GBit nic bonding new centos 6.3 system with cisco VSS switches - suggestions?
Hi, I install a new 4 Port GBit Server with centos 6.3 and I'd like to use nic bonding. Searching for a good how to pinted to this page: http://www.how2centos.com/centos-6-channel-bonding/ My question: Is this the current, good way to bond the 4 ports? The other question: What should I set on the cisco switch for the Port-channel options? As far as I understand for performance and

Any suggestions for backing up an imap server and whould maildir or dbox be better than mbox?

At the moment users copy their importent mail to their workstation accounts wich are backed up nightly. What are your suggestions to back up the mails not copied? Thanks for any comments. Issues with mounting Samba shares after update
Actually it isn't part of AD at all. We are using FreeIPA and Samba. We just finally figured this out with the help of some folks at Red Hat. It turned out there was a bug in one of the libraries that came along with sssd (sssd-libwbclient I believe). Their suggestion to use winbind and the version of the same library that came with it seems to have solved our problem instantly. It

Issues with mounting Samba shares after update
Our fileserver (running RHEL 7.4) has suddenly stopped allowing access to network shares through Samba. It is running Samba 4.6.2. When someone tries to mount a shared folder it prompts them for a username and password which fails even when the password is correct, rather than using their valid Kerberos ticket as it has in the past. Anyone here has a similar experience or suggestions as to
