Tar Failures Using smbclient from Samba 3.0.0beta2
I was trying to improve the performance of BackupPC http://backuppc.sourceforge.net/, which uses smbclient to connect to Windows systems to backup Windows desktop systems. I'm currently running Samba 2.2.8a on a fairly beefy Solaris 9 system and only getting 200-700 KB/sec from the Windows clients. The 700 KB/sec is when I connect to a dual-Athalon 2600+ Win2K system attached to the

smbclient Version 4.13.2 Crashes on Fedora 33
Have been working this on the BackupPC users and Fedora mailing lists, but it's looking more like a general problem in Samba utility, 'smbclient.' BackupPC is a backup server package that uses Samba, rsync, and other protocols to backup clients, including Windows PC's. Basically, it runs a command like this for a SMB backup of a PC: /usr/bin/smbclient \\\\new-pelican\\C\$ -U

smbclient 3.2: smbc errno NT_STATUS_OK -> 22
As I was upgrading other things, the Debian package management system required me to upgrade Samba, from 3.0.24-6 to 3.2.0-4. All the sudden it quit working, which means I can't run an smbget or smbclient will allow DIR and CD but not GET. Either way with the new version I get (debugging on at level 10) smbc errno NT_STATUS_OK -> 22 followed by Can't read 64000 bytes at offset 0, file

BackupPC
Hello, Been working on this for a couple days and I am stuck! Followed the CentOS WIKI on BackupPC to the letter. It may be outdated, not sure. I also looked at the tutorial on HowToForge. I'm trying to get a windows client to backup via smb. I created the user 'backuppc' on the windows client with admin priviledges. I can map the drive/share from my CentOS Samba server using

Setting up BackupPC on CentOS-7
I am interested in understanding the thing with BackupPC. What does it have compared to basic rsync? - It has a webui Is it like a central backup server? if so, how it works with windows clients(if it is?) Just want to make sure.. I understood right. Why did you choose this over other software? Thanks, Eliezer On 20/09/2015 16:51, Timothy Murphy wrote: > I'd be interested in any

fruit:resource=stream on ZFS safety?
Hi Mike and all, I still see ._ files with fruit:resource=xattr and not with fruit:resource=stream. Try extracting the attached zip file using a macintosh on the samba share. (Sounds dangerous, right?!) With fruit:resource=xattr # ls -al total 537 drwxrwx---+ 2 cwseys cwseys 9 Feb 17 09:57 . drwxrwx---+ 3 cwseys cwseys 5 Feb 17 09:57 .. -rwxrwxr--+ 1 cwseys cwseys 20120

Setting up BackupPC on CentOS-7
I'd be interested in any corrections or comments on the following instructions (basically for myself): We assume that BackupPC has been installed: sudo yum install BackupPC 1. BackupPC must be run by the user backuppc. Accordingly the lines User apache Group apache in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf should be changed to User backuppc Group backuppc 2. The user backuppc must be able to

EFS crypted files and smbclient.
Is there a way to get a NTFS encrypted file using smbclient (even not decrypted) so It can be backed up using backuppc (http://backuppc.sourceforge.net) ? I have exported the NTFS keys in a pfx file. could it help copy the file? the aim is that files must be crypted on laptops hard drive so if it is stolen then no data is compromised. Having the file not crypted on the backup server is not a

Samba/BackupPC under CentOS-5.3
I'm almost completely ignorant about samba on Windows machines, In particular I know nothing about Windows permissions, if that is relevant here. I am running BackupPC on a CentOS-5.3 machine. It works perfectly for backing up Linux folders, but I have great difficulty extending it to Windows clients. To be precise, I have a share called "EA Games D" on a machine running Windows XP

add rsync -A -X to Backuppc "RsyncArgs" get 'Got fatal error during xfer (fileListReceive failed)'
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The command line order shouldn't matter though that might depend on what else is in there (especially -s). Rsync is backwards compatible so the version mismatch shouldn't matter but 3.1 has some nice benefits over 3.0.9 so upgrading is a good idea. In the end you probably need to know what rsync command line is being run and what rsync says
