Managing a Samba4 AD DC using a Win7 workstation
Hello, I just installed Samba4 using the following doc : http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO Everything works Ok. All tests are Ok. Now, I would like to manage it from a remote Windows7 Virtualbox workstation. For that, I followed the following doc : http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_management_from_windows I installed the RSAT component but when trying to connect the

Can't create users with RSAT - "An error occurred. Contact you system administrator"
Hello, I set up a new AD with the Sernet Samba 4.1 packages. I did the provisioning with "samba-tool domain provision --use-rfc2307 --interactive". I checked the dc, ldap, kerberos and dns services under linux. Everything seems to work fine. Then I join a Windows 8.1 Enterprise running in as VM to the domain and login as administrator of the domain. When I install the RSAT and try

Windows 10 ADUC no properties window
Hi, Anyone know why I don't get the properties window when I try to create a new user or view a user's properties. Was working fine last week when I created 3 or 4 test users. I'm using the same workstation I had installed RSAT on and created the users with before. Any idea's? -- Regards, Phil

Can't access DNS from RSAT
Good morning all! I have two DCs, both running Samba 4.7.3. I have just joined the second DC to the domain. The second DC is replicating AD objects perfectly, I verified this by running "samba-tool drs showrepl" as well as using the ADUC RSAT snapin and adding a user to one DC, then switching the DC that ADUC connects to and verifying that the user was properly replicated. The DNS

Not enough storage space error
Hi, We are using Samba AD DC (Version 4.6.5) on CentOS 7.3. We have two servers with BIND9 DNS and all are working just fine. Today, when we attempted to move couple of users from one OU to another, Windows RSAT reported /*"Windows cannot move object. Ther*//*e *//*is not enough storage space*//*"*/. Our servers have 300 GB Storage more that 270GB is free on the storage. At the

Howto for manage unix data with ADUC
Hi, My tests on DC server and File/print server have some problem with account management... user access right on home share is very strange. if we use ADUC and home share (not homes) for new user, it work. All howto in samba's wiki ask administrator to use windows tools for manage users and groups and share like home share so... I know that is possible to add unix tab on aduc (already

User and Group management from Linux plus roaming profiles
Right now, RSAT seems not to be an option for me, as the only Win systems here are XP... None of my PDC users were brought over with classicupdate. Perhaps becuase my users are LINUX user accounts? And the home directories map to /home/user ? So I would think I need to start adding users and put them into groups. How? And I am reading:

idmap config ad
Trying to use the idmap config ad on a domain member. The AD is an actual Windows server and when logged in the AD server running ADUC the NIS domain field on the UNIX attributes tab only shows a dash and is cannot be changed. Domain member is RHEL 7.6 running Samba 4.8.3. Pertinent part of smb.conf: ===================================== [global] security = ADS workgroup =

Can't access DNS from RSAT
I found this page https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12807 which seemed to have someone experiencing the same issue I am. I tried adding "allow dcerpc auth level connect:dnsserver = yes" to my smb.conf, rebooted the server, but still I get the an access denied message in windows. However, what is logged in the log.samba files has changed since adding this option to my smb.conf.

Extending the AD schema - Cannot see attributes in RSAT
Hy Guys, I am trying to migrate to samba 4 and I need some help. So, I have a samba running with samba 3 and LDAP. Today I use my samba for auth of my e-mail, file server and several other applications. I use a WEB based LDAP administration program called goSA. I have Installed samba 4.8.4 on a test machine and create some users, the problem is, to keep my email and all functionality that I

Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID
Thanks for your answer and time you offer for me. That makes it a bit clearer. I searched the web and found that rsat needs to have the nis tools installed. Does it create Unix uid/gid automatically then? Without rfc2307 information it makes no sense to me to have a *nix machine for file services and another one for backup purposes, when uid and gid are not same (due to preserve acls). And for

Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID
I think I will only need uid and gid due to fs stuff. There are only Windows clients in that domain. So when the IDs are the same on both DCs, all will be fine I think. In RSAT there are no Unix attributes set. As an example: user1 has uid 3000021 on DC1 (first provisioned one). DRS seems fine. On DC2 user1 gets uid 3000017. If I set ID in RSAT Unix attributes after choosing domain, the IDs

Can't access DNS from RSAT
The user is a member of "Domain Admins" so they should be able to access the DNS (as is evident by the fact that they can access the DNS thru RSAT on the initial DC). But just to be thorough I have added "Domain Admins" to the group "DnsAdmins" and tested again, still get the "access denied" error from within windows. On Tue, Dec 12, 2017 at 11:01 AM,

Samba 4 two DCs no matching UID/GID
I will try this tomorrow. Possibly this is my fix. When a domain is provisioned with rfc2307 it would make sense that Unix attributes especially uid/gid would automatically be set. A member also needs this to be set for unique fs acls right? Am 10. 3rd-party tool for creating users as alternative to ADUC
Hello list, I am using the Microsoft ADUC (Active Directory Users & Computers) tool from the RSAT suite for creating and modifying my domain users. I am aware of the "copy" functionality which really is very nice to use. Unfortunately I am missing two important actions during the user-creation process which I try to describe: 1.) When I use the template feauture (by using the

Can only access new SAMBA fileshare from Windows as privileged user SAMDOM/Administrator, not as an ordinary user.
Hi Rowland, thanks for your suggestions. I have read and re-read the Samba docs to try and understand where I went wrong here. I added the uidNumber and gidNumber exactly as per your comments and that seems to improve the situation markedly. I can now at least see that the share exists from SAMDOM\stephenellwood which wasn't possible before. File access is now possible from
