setting up the SQLite database
I know this isn''t Python, but I''d like to get a view on the ''one
obvious'' way to set up an SQLite (or other) database and its location
per-app. I''ve got a bit lost with the Camping 2 changes and various
code snippets I have kicking around.

Hello,
How can I run a backward stepwise regression with part of the variables
fixed, while the others participate in the backward stepwise analysis?
Thank you, Einat

Manhattan Plot
Hello,
I am trying to create a simple Manhattan plot for a small list of 200 SNPs
spread out in the genome in different genes.
I have tried different functions (using ggplot2 and a function created by
Stephen Turner, mhtplot etc.)-none of them work smoothly.
Does anyone have a simple way to create the plot (not for all 22
chromosomes)- with the x axis showing the genes name and not the

'template shell' samba parameter
Hi,
As part of the bash 'shellshock' bug / vulnerability in unix/linux
environments i would like to know
whether the use of the samba parameter 'template shell' in my product may
cause my product to be vulnerable to the shellshock bug , since this
'template shell' parameter , as per my understanding allows to open a
remote bash session used by external users.
I would

vTPM-Manager
Hi List,
I have a problem installing the vTPM extension for Xen.
I selected the option vTPM Manager (=y) in the Config.mk before
compiling the xen-tools, but there is always the same error in every xen
version which I have tried:
gcc -Werror -g3 -I. -D_GNU_SOURCE
-DLOGGING_MODULES="(BITMASK(VTPM_LOG_TCS)|BITMASK(VTPM_LOG_VTSP)|BITMASK(VTPM_LOG_VTPM))"

login on WinNT and 9X
Hi, I am a new member of this list and I couldn't find and message to
help me in the Samba archives.
We're migrating from a FreeBSD 4.0 server with Samba2 to a FreeBSD 5.3
server with Samba 3.0.12_1,1.
These too servers are on the same network, but workgoups are different
(old server is DESQ-Samba and the new one is NDESQ).
Our network have Windows 95, 98, NT, 2k and XP!

login and WinNT
Hello!
I was wondering if it's possible to make Windows NT and Samba 3 work
togheter. I found an old question with the same problem I have.
Samba 3 is not authenticating WinNT machines. My smb.conf is:
[global]
workgroup = DESQ-TESTE
server string = Teste (Samba %v)
interfaces = 143.106.19.25/255.255.255.192, 127.
bind interfaces only = Yes
encrypt passwords = No

How to read an excel data into R?
Hi all,
Does anybody know the easiest way to import excel data into R? I copied
and pasted the excel data into a txt file, and tried read.table, but R
reported that
Error in read.table("data_support.txt", sep = " ", header = T) :
more columns than column names
Thanks!

Repeated attacks via SSH
Everyone:
We're starting to see a rash of password guessing attacks via SSH
on all of our exposed BSD servers which are running an SSH daemon.
They're coming from multiple addresses, which makes us suspect that
they're being carried out by a network of "bots" rather than a single attacker.
But wait... there's more. The interesting thing about these attacks
is that

unsigned and signed ?
In an earlier post I made about learning how to use speex someone nicely
responded to me with a Speex Wrapper they had written.. however I am having
an issue now where all I seem to hear is a ticking noise after encoding and
decoding with speex. It is definitely getting proper data, as if I hit the
mic somewhat I hear some extra crackling noises.
Now, my code was nearly the same... but...

concatenating two successive time series
Dear Helpers,
I am looking for methods and tools to compare and then to concatenate
two successive time series. They are both in the same frequency and they
describe one phenomena. There is no time gap between them. The problem
is that the method of measurements has changed between both time series
and they are no statistically the same. I would like to merge them to
receive one homogeneous

xp/2003 explorer freezes browsing shares on Samba 3.2 ipv6 hosts
After upgrading one of our servers from Fedora 7 to Fedora 9,
from Samba 3.0 to 3.2.0-2.17.fc9 I noticed this strange phenomena:
Windows 2003 and XP clients freeze when you type
"\\server" in an explorer address bar where "server" is the
name of the Samba 3.2 host.
Windows 2000 clients don't freeze.

Strange TCP ports phenomena
Hello list.
I have new server on CentOS 4.1 - fresh installation. During security
tests I've noticed:
When I scan server ports (nmap) from the outside there is 21 tcp port
open. But when I check on the server (netstat -tan or lsof -i) there is
no any open 21 tcp port.
Any ideas? To be honest I'm confused.
Regards
P.S.: of course I don't have started FTP service. Even I don't
