samba4 best practices questions
I'm interested in using samba4 in a production environment that has multiple locations tied together via a WAN. In order to do so I need to figure out what is the absolute most stable and supported path. I found this email thread here stating samba4 ad roles, and file server roles should be on separate servers. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mailing.unix.samba/QySoM_uGGL8 Can

Issues on Samba4 AD DC GPO's with Sites and Winbind
Hello Samba-List, Recently I ran into a few access rights problems with GPO's. I have an test environment running with four samba4 AD DC's (sernet 4.1.2/debian wheezy). Used the Script's from the samba wiki for sysvol replication. The AD Database is comming from an classic upgrade and i have "idmap_ldb:use rfc2307 = yes" in my smb.conf. Some groups like for example

GPO not getting updated on Windows 10
Hi, Our Domain controller environment is working for over 6 years without a break. It started with Samba Version 4.6.5 and today running 4.18.5. We have only Windows 10 clients across our organisation. Off late, we have observed that GPOs are not getting updated when we change some GPOs and link them to some specific OUs. For example, previously, we had not allowed one specific network path

idmap_ad problem and workaround
I have tried to add all of the above to smb4.conf with no luck. I also did a net ads leave, and net ads join. In addition I cleared the contents of /var/db/samba4. Only users who have once been granted access to domain admins will show up. I am becoming more convinced it is something at the Active Directory level. probably auth problem
Hi, I am using samba 4.1.7 as Domain Controller. Actually I have two samba servers DC1 and DC2. DC1 is the primary DC and DC2 joined as another DC. We use the Active Directory for a couple of weeks. The directory replication works fine, and a sysvol replication works with rsync. (I set it up based on the samba wiki). But I have a problem with the authentication. If I log in to a windows

idmap_ad problem and workaround
The DC's are running Windows Server 2012R2. The directory itself has RFC2307 attributes. The file servers are running FreeBSD with Samba 4.1. These are just member servers not joined as domain controllers. I have tried to upgrade to samba 4.2, and samba 4.3 as a test with no difference. Here is a peak at the smb4.conf via pastebin. http://pastebin.com/Ai14LREW Joe Maloney On Tue, Jan 26,

gpo client linux sssd does not apply
Hello Samba Team, how are you? I'm joining linux clients in the company's environment and I would like to apply GPOs to linux clients, I'm in the testing phase. I'm testing with ubuntu clients version 22.04 and the software I used to join the samba AD was sssd. The 22.04 ubuntu client has joined and everything is working fine except for the GPOs for linux clients. I compiled

samba-tool OU's organisational units
I am confused as with samba-tool it does practically everything and all the default methods of M$ AD are covered. For some reason OU's seem to be missing I know OU's are very Group policy orientated but also they are simply Organisational Units. The ability to list, create and delete OU's seems to be omitted. Also when you add a user the destination OU parameter is missing. Is this

'RPC Server is Unavailable' when updating GPO
Hi, Researched the forums before posting but was not able to find solution to my issue. Could be a unique problem. GPO's are not being applied to users and computers because 'RPC is unavailable'. The GPO's were being applied before, but not sure what happened. Started noticing this once I binded a new instance of Windows 10 to the SambaDC and the machine nor user were picking up

After I joined a Windows 10 machine to the domain the gpupdate /force command printed this errors all of my policies. filtering not applied (empty) On the server side everything looks fine. I checked the tdb files under the /var/lib/samba/private/sam.ldb.d/ folder. The

Samba 4.2.14 GPO issue
Hello Sébastien Le Ray, The PC reply the following... The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the user name. This could be caused by one or more of the following: a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller. b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller). gpo not applied a boot computer
Sorry for the translation. actually my first installation is a samba put into production, to avoid errors, I cloned on a new VM not to break my current system. on this one I redid an installation with DEB packages "https://dev.tranquil.it" I then made a restoration. I presice that the supply is a samba3 pdc migration to samba4 dc "samba-tool domain samba3upgrade". I only have

gpo problem
Hello, we have a strange problem with the "Default Domain Policy". Sometimes on different PC the drivmappings are not working. When we do a "gpupdate /force" we get an errormessage that the "default domain policy" is not working for both the user-GPOs and the machine-GPOs. We checked the permissions with "samba-tool ntacl sysvolcheck" and with

I'm network drive mapping in my domain with GPO and it work properly. However, some times, the drives aren't mapped. This way, I run GPUPDATE /FORCE command and some times I receive the following error: ' *Updating Policy ...The user
