recreate/re-provision DNS db from scratch?
Hi,
Is there a way to re-initialize/re-provision DNS?
I have a working domain with 100+ users and computers etc.. I want to
preserve all those users, settings and group policies etc, only start the
DNS part from scratch.
Why? I've been having some (mysterious) issues with Samba 4 DNS since..
well.. I suppose since I started with 4.0.6 (migrated from Samba 3.x) but
from a users' point of

biometric device or smartcard with Samba 4.x
Hi all,
I was just wondering if any of you are using biometric devices (eg: a
fingerprint reader) or smartcards with Samba4 for network logon.
Either as a replacement for a password or 'extra' as a 2nd factor.
Would be interested in hearing experiences regarding this.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bram.

how to remove an (offline) DC from Samba 4 ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA256
Hi all,
What would be the recommended way to remove an old offline DC from Samba4?
I searched in samba-tool for a way to do this, but didn't find any.
Tried using the Windows tools to manage AD Users & Computers -> Domain
Controllers -> The DC & then hit delete, however this gives an error 'cannot
find specified module'.

'document has been locked for editing by another user' - medium latency / limited bw connection issues?
Hi,
I hope some of you have been in a similar situation and can shed some light
on this:
I have a VPN connection to a Samba 4.1.4 server and when I use Word 2010 on
a W7 client to open an existing file I often get the following error:
"document.docx has been locked for editing by another user."
I should clarify that the document is not in use by anyone (confirmed by
smbstatus), and

Samba3 on multiple networks, how to make it hand out the correct IP?
Hi,
My Samba 4.1.x server is connected to two networks, one in the 192.168.*
range (wired) and one in the 10.* range (wifi). The clients on either
network normally cannot reach each other.
I noticed Samba hands out (eg: for dcname.company.net) it's IP's from both
ranges to clients on both sides. So the 192.168.* clients get two A records:
192.168.1.1 & 10.0.0.2.
I noticed that,

Samba 4 + Windows XP very slow - especially noticeable with many files
Hi,
After our upgrade from Samba 3.x to 4.1.6 we are having major
performance issues. Today, I've been able to nail it down to a simple
test case.
What strikes me is that Windows XP takes about 25 seconds for one job,
while it only costs 3 seconds on Windows 7.
I have two tests:
1000 files of 10k each (total ~10Mb):
* Linux on localhost or a remote host (1GE or 10GE): 5.5 seconds

Questions About Bind_DLZ
G'day Guys,
     Sorry for the delay.
I've had the log level of samba at 5 for a while now. Nothing
interesting seems to be coming from the samba log.
Increasing the bind logs, to level 5, shows nothing different. I
get the same two warnings:
09-Oct-2015 12:46:01.421 database: warning: samba_dlz: Ignoring

Serverinfo Error
Hai,
Just an suggestion. Since now its known what is missing/wrong.
Remove this server from the domain and re-add it.
But use the samba 4.9.11 or 4.10.6 now.
We verified almost all other settings on the server thats ok, so..
Dont remove/delete the complete server. Only the samba data.
! And make a backup of these.
Stop samba
Cleanup /var/lib/samba/ ( remove the content from the folders,

samba-tool dns serverinfo
Good Afternoon,
I successfully joined an Ubuntu 14.04 server with Samba 4.1.9 to my existing domain. I want this server to become my Master, but before I attempt to seize roles, I have been double and triple checking all of the configuration files and DNS entries. I noticed that this server's dns serverinfo differs from the other three servers. For it's aipServerAddrs and aipListenAddrs,

Delete second IP address from aipServerAddrs and aipListenAddrs DC
For some reason, the provision picked up 2 network IP addresses in my VM.
Snipped output below...
root at dc1.example.com ~ $ (screen) samba-tool dns serverinfo dc1
   dwVersion : 0xece0205
   fBootMethod : DNS_BOOT_METHOD_DIRECTORY
   fAdminConfigured : FALSE
   fAllowUpdate : TRUE
