Password sync not changing Samba passwords
Hi,
I have a FreeBSD 9.2 system running Samaba 3.6.12 and I am trying to setup password syncing so Windows users can change their passwords and have that change reflected in the FreeBSD password DB.
I added the following to my smb.conf
unix password sync = yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat timeout = 10
However, when I change a password in Windows it

Even though Samba doesn't use all of the NT privileges, does it allow assigning them to domain

Very slow execution of programs from a SAMBA share
Hi.
I've run into a significant performance problem,
where Samba shares are fine except for programs executed
from the shares, which take about 100x longer to launch
than expected.
Copying local Windows directories with large files to the
Samba share is getting 30 Mbytes/second. However, trying
to run programs from the same samba share is taking 30 seconds
to 5 minutes to launch the

What is the trick to get Postfix's local command to pipe mail through
procmail?
I have:
-bash-4.1$ grep allow_mail_to_commands /etc/postfix/main.cf

and

Password syncing
Hi all,
Does anyone have a working password syncing setup (where changing the password in Windows will change the unix password) with Samba 3.6?
Thanks.

portaudit
Any reason why portaudit and its associated infrastructure was not announced to
this list or security-notifications? I recently discovered it, and discovered
the feature was added to bsd.port.mk in the beginning of feburary. Seeing as
the security officer apparently (without announcement) no longer issues
security notices (SNs) for ports, I am assuming that portaudit has replaced
SNs entirely,

tired of "midget packet received" warnings
Hi,
When monitoring an asterisk through its iax2 port I get these warnings
at the console:
[Nov 6 13:15:15] WARNING[2209]: chan_iax2.c:7000 socket_process: midget packet received (1 of 4 min)
This is triggered by the monitoring app sending a POKE to the iax port.
The warning appears even without any '-v'.
Is there a way to avoid these warnings? Or at least turn them off when

CentOS 5.3 host not seeing storage device
Maybe one of you has experienced something like this before.
I have a host running CentOS5.3, x86_64 version with the standard

but they never find my storage device:

Integrating Dovecot with Amazon Web Services
I did some searching in the mail archives and didn't see any discussion of
integration with AWS, so I wanted to through out my thoughts/plans and see
if it has been done before.
I am setting up my own personal website on EC2 along with an email server,
and I really don't like the idea of using the disk drive as permanent mail
storage. EBS is too small instance storage is ephermeral.

Asterisk monitoring with Nagios and IAX
Hi *,
Does anyone have a lead on a Nagios plugin that speaks IAX or a small
app to do so? I'm trying to set up remote monitoring for my Asterisk
server and only IAX2 traffic is allowed through the firewall. Simply
using check_udp to port 4569 yields no usable answer and Asterisk
complains about receiving a midget packet or something like that :)

zfs/iSCSI: 0000 = SNS Error Type: Current Error (0x70)
Hi,
I''m trying to track down an error with a 64bit x86 OpenSolaris 2009.06 ZFS shared via iSCSI and an Ubuntu 10.04 client. The client can successfully log in, but no device node appears. I captured a session with wireshark. When the client attempts a "SCSI: Inquiry LUN: 0x00", OpenSolaris sends a "SCSI Response (Check Condition) LUN:0x00" that contains the
