strange: failing upload of special profile-dirs
Hi to everyone, Something quite strange occured to me this weekend as we wanted to switch our network to w2k ads structure with a sambaserver as main fileserver running winbind. The windowsprofiles are supposed to reside on the sambaserver and the client successfully loads the initial profile. The first time the user logs on to his machine, he gets some default .msi-softwarepackages assigned by

Different results depending on the user launching rsync
Hi Exactly the same command shows different rsync results depending on the user executing the rsync. If I execute rsync as root I get a proper result but if I execute as user_x there seems to be many files that require updating. Here is the command I execute /opt/local/bin/rsync -avuzhn --relative -e ssh --exclude-from=/TT_TCM/SEA/scripts/LMI/backup_exclude_files_norelative.t xt

nautilus pegging the cpu
I have a user that is running centos on many machines. At each machine, the users is logged into a common account that is located elsewhere on the network. Meaning that everyone is logged on as user_x and accessing the home directory via NFS. All users are running gnome. On some of the machines, the nautilus process is pegging the cpu. At this time, I have no strace or other info to

One clue is, it works fine if i do it as root!!! Could be permission issues, but on what? I have checked permissions on all the relevant config. files as well as files/directories involved. Any ideas/tips would be greatly

ssh tunnel exits unexptected
Hi, I have setup a tunnel from server A to server B across WAN by running "ssh -l user_X -L port_A:server_B:port_B server_C -N". Server B is in a private network, so I have to establish the tunnel via server C, which is in the same LAN with B but has a public IP. The problem is, every time I start the tunnel on server B, the tunnel process will die nearly two hours later. And it

Intermittent logon failures
Samba 1.9.17p2 running on SPARC 4 Solaris 2.5. Windows 95 clients. For some time now I have been hearing reports of users not being able to logon to the domain--but I've never seen it happen myself, and I never do anything to fix it. It's just this annoying problem that doesn't happen often enough for me to ever see or track down. Today, FINALLY, I tried logging into a machine and

SMB gurus: please help - I am desperate.
I apologize up front for re-posting this, but I need to find a solution to this problem. I have been having hard time to believe that there isn't one person among the SMB gurus that doesn't know how a W2K client connects to an SMB server. So, if you happen to know even the slightest hint to this baffling problem, I would be forever grateful. OK. Here goes (original subject line was:

Why does a W2K (pro) client do more than it is asked to do?
Desperate to find out why connecting to a samba share(on an AIX server) from W2K is so slow, I tried connecting to the same share from a Linux box, using smbclient: smbclient \\\\aixserver\\sharedir$ -U lynn The results were amazing. The connection was so MUCH FASTER then connecting from a W2K (pro) workstation: \\aixserver\sharedir$ (in the Start|Run edit box) When I examined the samba log

a strange behavior on a small memory system with tun0
Hello I am using openssh as vpn on a router with freewrt.org and rsync to sync my local data to a remote server. Everything works fine for me so far. The only problem is that the channel-1 (tun0) goes down on the router after 50-200MB transfered via tun0 or after 5-20 hours only with a ping to the server . Channel-0 is still working. Tcpdump shows that a ping from the router to the server via
