data from several accounting and tax preparation applications.

Possible memory leak in smbd?
I noticed one of my smbd processes for one particular client (IUSR_JUNIPER)
is taking 200MB in memory, far different from all the other smbd processes.
Should I be concerned about a memory leak here? I don't think samba would
be caching any files, so I can't see why it'd use this much memory.
That windows client is a win2k IIS5 server, with well over 60 sites that are
hosted off a

Win2k, Domain logon, permissions
I first asked this question at the end of October, got a response which
didn't solve the problem, and have finally got back to the issue now.
I'm running 2.2.7a, recently upgraded from 2.2.0 as Domain Logons for
Win2K were suspected to be part of my problem. Anyway, the issue
relates to AutoCAD (actually a vertical product called Land3) and a
command which works with winXX boxes, but

File locking problem involving Samba, Clearcase, and Cygwin
We are having some problems in our company's test group that did not
exist when our Clearcase 2003.06 server existed on a Solaris 8
machine. Now we are running on RHEL 5.2 with Clearcase 7.0.1.3 with
Samba 3.0.28 (despite the fact that IBM has only blessed up to 3.0.24)
and running into some file locking issues with some scripts our test
group runs. I am hoping that someone might have some

High cpu load
Server is PII-350MHz/256 MB RAM, hardware mirrored high speed SCSI disks.
Installed is SuSE 8.2 with Samba 2.2.8a RPM, XFS filesystems and LPRng as
printservices. Server acts as PDC and WINS server.
Clients are W2K SP2 (a few with SP3). There are +/- 100 clients.
We see a server that is 100% busy and we see during a long time a very high CPU
load (60- 95%) related to one W2K client. When

Dear all,
I would need some help if we?re running in issues ?cause a wrong configuration of our shares, or it?s a bug in samba 4.12

After upgrade to 4.12 we run in to the issue that network shares which are mounted as drives per gpo not working well,
We get on windows when we try to open the network drive

strang locking behaviour with macosx clients
I'm running a samba pdc on my gentoo box in a mixed environment with a
couple of Windows XP clients and only a few MacOSX clients. The users
told me, the file locking across the platforms does not work properly
sometimes.
I tried to google my problem, but without luck. I switched all the flags
related the lock mechanism of samba on and off, but the problem seems to
be solved yet.

Sudden unexplained slowness on share (caused by duplicate UID?)
Hi,
We have 5 Samba domain controllers, and 4 file servers. All are
4.2.10-Debian. Our file servers have been working fine until recently
(on the 26th), when suddenly access to the
\\users.store.example.com\user share (hostname p-cats) became extremely
slow.
Access to other shares on other machines is fine, and users is 128G
total (smaller than other shares). The machine isn't under

--enable-R-shlib and external BLAS/LAPACK libraries
A couple of years ago (in 2008, using R 2.7.x, I believe) I noted that
using the configure switch --enable-R-shlib when buildig R made
configure ignore any specified external LAPACK library and use the
internal one insted. I asked why, and was told it was intentional.
Now, with R 2.15.1, I see that it at least appears that this is no
longer the case. I've run configure like this:

samba 2.2.7a and multiple logins...
Hello
I use a new samba server with LDAP support as PDC for some Windows2000
and WindowsXP machines.
All is working nice. The useer can login with a user/password in the
domain, we have remote profiles, the user can access the samba shares
and print etc.
But after some time (< 1 day) we get a smbstatus output like the
attached file. Users are connected multiple times with the same share

CreateFile for EXE images vs other files
This question isn't directly Samba related, but Samba has helped me figure out part of the problem. When I CreateFile on an existing file like so:
CreateFile(FileName, GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ | FILE_SHARE_DELETE, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, NULL);
Samba shows that I have the file opened with this type of lock

Resources forks 'dot underscore' files locked indefinitely from MacOSX clients
We have a central samba file share for our designers (who all use OSX
boxes, and mostly use Macromedia products) to work off of. I've lately
been able to track down a lot of application quirks (mostly problems with
errors when saving, about files being locked) to the Mac resource fork
files being indefinitely locked. Here's a sample from a `smbstatus`

Fwd: samba & Oracle ACFS Issues
Hi Volker and the list
Yesterday the problem appeared again
I could launch a strace command over a samba PID to see what was going on
and this is the result
[PRO] [root at pf3il0024 ~]# strace -frp 57686
Process 57686 attached - interrupt to quit
0.000000 fcntl(14, F_SETLKW, {type=F_RDLCK, whence=SEEK_SET,
start=35824, len=1}
It seems the process was trying to get a read-lock but no one
