Constant error messages about failure to remove oplock
Hi Volker, Thanks for your reply. When the problem was happening(before we turned off level2-oplocks), we had captured one run with smbd debug all:10 (unfortunately we didn’t setup for other modules like vfs etc). Can you please see if this below trace helps? Thanks. [2015/06/25 03:05:30.408432, 3, pid=1581, effective(2030299, 2000514), real(2030299, 0)]

Not possible to chown as guest?
I run Samba server on my OpenWRT router. I normally access the share as guest from my Linux box. Here's the relevant line from my /etc/fstab: //192.168.1.1/T_Drive /mnt/r cifs guest,rw,iocharset=utf8,uid=1000 0 0 Recently I harnessed rsync to backup a number of photos from the Linux to the Samba share mountpoint but rsync said that chgrp failed when it tried to change group

chmod and unix extensions
Dear all, Im trying to set up Samba so that linux users can use the new unix extensions to be able to chmod their files as they wish. However I seem to be having problems with masks. Whether using smbfs or smbclient trying to do: chmod 777 testfile results only in read permissions for group and other (ie it ends up 744). Under smbfs it complains: chmod: changing permissions of `testfile'

What is "client failure in oplock break"?
Below are a number of errors that appeared in a log file today. I am running Samba v2.2.5 on a Red Hat Linux v7.3 system. The client experiencing/causing the errors below is a WinXP(SP1) machine. The log entries below pertain to 2 errors, the first in handling file "6.zip" and the second in attempting to run file "DiskeeperWks413zssi.exe". I didn't see the first

Does automatic DNS PTR generation in Samba4 AD DC work at all?
Hello, I'm currently running a test setup with Samba4 internal DNS (Version 4.1.5 from Debian backports) and 2 clients (Linux and a Windows). Everything seems to work so far. However, I do not manage to get automatic PTR generation working. I'm using the internal DNS at the moment, but I wouldn't mind changing to bind if this will make it work. While reverse DNS seem to work with

CentOS6.5 Samba 3.6.9 Windows8.1 login possible after 15 minutes after logoff
Hello, in school We have CentOS6.5 server with Samba3.6.9 (default from CentOS3.6.9 repository). Clients are WinXP, Win7 and Win8.1, We use roaming profiles. Everything is working perfect, except that when user logs off from Win8.1 client, he is not able to log in for about 15 minutes to any Win8.1 client at school. After 15 minutes it is possible again. I do have pretty standard smb.conf, no

dovecot/config processes one more time - which are safe to kill?
Hello. The problem with dovecot/config processes never ending and spawning new one on each reload (https://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2016-November/106058.html) is becoming a problem here: # ps aux|grep dovecot/config|wc -l 206 That's a lot of wasted memory - dovecot/config processes ate over 30GB of ram on 64GB box. Before killing dovecot/config processes: # free -m total

Confusion berween file and direcory
I have some trouble with a samba 3.5.8 server when setting directory attributes. On a windows XP I execute a small peace of code that calls 'SetFileAttributes' for the directory 'test-dir' located on the samba server. Source keychain credentials in Perl?
Keychain is quite a useful tool for automating SSH logins without having to use password-less keys: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/keychain/ Normally it is used like this to set the SSH_AUTH_SOC and SSH_AGENT_PID variables: source ~/.keychain/hostname-sh (This is what's in hostname-sh) SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-XXn47DUn/agent.16721; export SSH_AUTH_SOCK; SSH_AGENT_PID=16722; export

[LLVMdev] type-system-rewrite branch near landing
> 1. Clang - Jay, do you have a patch for this?  Can you create a branch of the clang repo or send an updated version of the patch to the list? I've created a clang type-system-rewrite branch and committed all my purely mechanical changes: de-constifying llvm::Types as necessary, and using the new llvm::StructType::createNamed/setBody to create the "implicit" structs used by

"CIFS VFS: server not responding" with some client/server combinations
I have the following, very strange problem, which I'll try to describe now: A Samba server running Debian Etch with latest updates. Different clients one running Etch with latest updates, too. The other one runs either Ubuntu (don't know which version because it's not my installation, but quite recent) or the older Debian 3 but with a recent vanilla kernel (either 2.6.20.1 or
