Still can't figure out ACL issues
Yah, jimc again. I still cannot figure out what is wrong with my dc. The problem began with being unable to log on from Windows boxes after a power hit. The initial symptoms were: 1) When I log in on a Windows machine, with an account that should have administrator permissions, I don't have said admin rights. 2) When I attempt to launch the Windows remote server tools, I can select the

How do I disable kerberos?
HI. I have been told that kerberos cannot be running while samba4 is. How do I do this? I seem to have missed this on the how-to and system requirements. I have commented out every entry in /etc/services that seems even remotely kerberosish. I still get errors on kinit and host (from the how-to). I have googled until my computers are laughing at me and have posted on every forum I can find.

smb.conf getting changed?
Hi! I got my first Samba 4 system up and running. {No applause, just throw money. Paper please, coins hurt} It is just a home network of about a dozen or so boxes. I have noticed that when I do a testparm, the result is not the same as the file I created. I'm fairly certain it isn't anything to worry about; I'm just trying to learn. Thanks! -jimc

delete kerberos databases and start over
Hi. Something happened with my Kerberos database*. I don't know what. I don't care much (right now). What I need to do now is to recover. I am running a small home network: 3 win7 boxes, 2 xps, 2 Mint Linux and one Puppy. I tried deleting /usr/local/samba/private/* and /usr/local/samba/etc/smb.conf as the how-to suggests, then doing a samba-tool domain provision. All my Windoze

RAID/SCSI/IDE/SATA and a TE405P (or T100P) c ard. Should I expect problems?
Hello, We use all SCSI PCI card hardware RAIDs on all 4 of our production Asterisk servers. They all have Digium quad T1 cards and they all have from 2 to 4 T1s hooked up to them. We have had no noticable problems with dropped calls/poor quality. What are you looking to do with this system? what kind of traffic will be going through these 4 T1s? RPC server unavailable?
I have a Samba 4.1.6 up and running(?) When I try to join the AD, I get 'RPC server is unabailable.' This also happens when I try the Microsoft Remote Administration tools, I get the same issue. The samba, smbd, and auth logs don't seem to provide the answer I need, but that may only mean I can't see it. The workgroup server works fine. I have spent hours online and in the samba

Still can't figure out ACL issues
Thank you for your reply. If you happen to read the post of 11/22, you will notice that it was not me who spoke ill of Samba. I put my bets on other people being able to figure it out; I hope that one of them will help me. Sincerely jimc

samba Digest, Vol 155, Issue 24; Still can't figure out acl issues
Yes, I did an fsck from a boot dvd. It came up clean. I did a recursive setfacal to set all acls to default. On 18 Nov 2015, at 03:33, jimc<jesmeyano at gmail.com> wrote: Yah, jimc again. printer spool directory
HI! I've noticed that every time I install Samba 4, I need to create a /usr/local/samba/var/spool directory and give it 777 permissions. If I don't do that, I can't share the printers with my windoze machines. Is this by design? Should this be put into the how-to? Thanks -jimc

kerberos/samba errors?
These two problems must be related. kinit: cannot resolve servers for kdc in realm "${REALM}" while getting initial credentials samba-tool dns zonelist catnip yadda yadda, etc. failed to connect to host 127.0.1.1 on port 135 NT_STATUS_REFUSED krb5 is as provided in /usr/local/samba/share/setup/krb5.conf /etc/services shows port 135 as: loc-srv 135-tcp emap loc_srv 137-udp emap

AD + smbd?
Stupid question # 885: Can Samba 4.1 be both AD server and smb server? Some recent updates on my server broke a bunch of stuff. Samba was among them. I have managed to recover the AD server, but the smb server refuses to take control. Whenever I run the 'smbclient -L localhost -U%', I get all the correct messages, but no workgroup master. Domain=[OZCO] os=[Unix] Server=[Samba 4.1.2}

Still confused about Kerberos password expiry
I am running 4.1.6, as both a domain controller and a smb server. Whenever Kerberos decides my password needs to be changed, I have to change it on all the other boxes, too. How can I: A) Set the Kerberos password to never expire (I should be able to deal with password changes in Samba-Tool, eh?) B) Set the Kerberos password complexity off C) Tell Kerberos to stop remembering old passwords

Busted ACLs
It has been a while since I have had to annoy you. You may be pleased to know that my server has been working quite well...until recently. I think it is because of a power hit we took recently. I don't know which came first, but I have four symptoms: 1) When I log in on a Windows machine, with an account that should have administrator permissions, I don't have said admin rights. 2)

unmountable ext3 root recovery
After a (hardware) crash yesterday, I was unable to boot up due to unrecoverable ide errors (according to the printk()s) when accessing the root filesystem's journal for recovery. Unable to recover, I tried deleting the has_journal option, but that was disallowed given that the needs_recovery flag was set. I saw no way to unset that flag. Unable to access the backups (they were on a fw
