Wiki contribution: CentOS 5 on HP Pavilion laptop
Dag Wie?rs recently requested contributors for the http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/ section. A few months back I installed CentOS 5 on my HP Pavilion ze5300 (actually an xt5377qv). I'd like to create a page for this.

a newbie question
Hello everyone I just found out this great tool. I need to use it to get access to DSBL zones. in their website it says Can I run my own DSBL DNS secondary? DSBL provides direct rsync access to our zones. To retrieve one of the zones, install rsync and run the following command: rsync -t rsync.dsbl.org::dsbl/<file> . where <file> is one of: rbldns-list.dsbl.org

CentOS 5 ssloooowww when network unavailable
This is undoubtedly an upstream issue, but ... I've been messing about with that hp pavilion trying to get wireless working. If I boot with the eth0 NIC plugged in, everything is blazingly fast -- GDM comes up in a few seconds, the Gnome startup splash screen barely has time to appear before it's gone again, shells pop up the instant I click Open Terminal. If I unplug the network and

Installed CentOS 5 today, question about an error I'm getting
So I did a fresh install today. Decided to go ahead and upgrade. Everything seems okay save for three problems. #1 - I get a message during boot saying that an Intel microcode update didn't work. Something about not being able to find /proc/microcode. #2 - I can't use the Firefox extension HTML Parser. Anyone use this. #3 - Off and on GDM crashes and I get dropped into a prompt. Any

More CentOS5 nVidia fun
In the vein of the "Can't get resolution higher than 1280x1024" and "Another CentOS 5 oddity..." threads, I just installed CentOS5 w/Xen kernel on a Sony VAIO desktop with an nVidia NV5M64 (RIVA TNT2 64 Pro) card, using an old Samsung SyncMaster 700NF monitor. system-config-display chose the highest possible resolution for the monitor and Xorg did its best to drive it, but

gdm-restart/gdm-safe-restart
Hi all, On a CentOS 4.2, x86_64 system, I created a new session that is selectable from the sessions list in GDM. To make GDM see the changes, I ran the following: gdm-safe-restart That's supposed to make GDM re-read it's config files. Well, it worked, but instead of staying on vt7, GDM moved to vt9. At first it looked liked GDM had died, but I ran ps aux|grep gdm, and found it

CentOS 5 and Broadcom wireless
I've got CentOS 5 installed on my hp pavilion ze 5300 laptop and the network configuration UI says my wireless NIC has been correctly identified and assigned what appears to be the right Broadcom device driver on eth1. However, the inteface doesn't come up. Google doesn't find anything recent about using Linux with Broadcom except for someone's passing remark that Ubuntu 7 beta

Can't configure GDM after update to CentOS 7.6
Hi, It looks like the upgrade to CentOS 7.6 has been unusually disruptive with the GNOME desktop version bump and a series of moving targets under the hood. The result is some wreckage at my client's desktop installations, which I've been busy to repair since yesterday. First things first. I have a custom configuration of GDM, which consists mainly of two things. 1. Display my

Obtaining a newer Broadcomm (bcm43xx) driver for CentOS 5
I'm using CentOS 5 (w/all latest updates as of 2008-01-06) on an HP laptop -- in fact, the exact laptop described here: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops/HP/Pavilion-ze5300_Series Ever since I switched from SHARED to OPEN authentication (and hence from using ndiswrapper to the bcm43xx module, as explained on that wiki page), I've been having packet loss and/or collision on the

What is the proper place for GDM related dconf settings now?
Hello, It seems that with CentOS 7.6 and Gnome 3.28, a clean install of a Workstation package profile does not build the /etc/dconf/db/gdm.d/ directory tree. I have several desktops in operation which we kickstart built with an older 7.3/4/5 version of CentOS as the base install media. These all have a dconf directory for gdm, and I assume a dconf profile directory for gdm as well (though I
