AD share not accessible
Hi,
Thx Steve for pointing out the overlapping range issue I had in my conf.
I changed the config, but still no success gentent passwd or getent groups
is only showing local users/groups after showing the local users, there
seems to be a timeout of 5 seconds and then back to shell.
Accessing my share with a group that is situated in the group Valid Users
isn't working either. No errors in

winbindd hangs and makes the system unuseable when DC is offline
Hello,
I am using winbindd to map users via the idmap_ad backend from a Samba 4.2.2 AD to another machine in the network.
Everything works fine unless I shutdown the DC.
I would expect winbindd to realize the DC is offline and shutdown or something, however instead of realizing something is wrong
It goes into some kind of reconnection loop and makes the whole system unuseable.
As soon as I kill

temporary profiles problem - don't want roaming profiles
I have a Samba PDC (Ubuntu 12, OpenLDAP 2.4.28, Samba 3.6.3), and at two
remote sites, I have some Samba BDCs.
For now I've manually entered the DCs as WINS servers on the workstations
I'm using for testing. At the remote sites, I can log in with an account
that has no logon path or logon home specified, and it works perfectly.
But at the main site, when I try to log on to one of these

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland,
I had to split smbd and winbindd config to work around some bugs in credentials offline caching.
I have a separate winbindd.conf, it looks like this:
[global]
### Network ###
netbios name = Fileserver
server string = Fileserver (%h V:%v)
### ad member ###
workgroup = INTRANET
realm = INTRANET.MYCOMPANY.DE
security = ADS

Domain Member keytabs invalid after Password Change
We have a 2008r2 AD domain. We join Linux machines as domain members using
Samba with Winbind (I'll show all of my config files below). This portion
of our setup works without failures of any kind. However, some of these
machines are web servers for Intranet stuff and we'd like to have SSO
working. For this, we use Apache (HTTPD) plus mod_auth_kerb (requires a
keytab file). So, since

winbind authentication for user FAILED with error NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD
Hello,
I'm trying to authenticate to a Samba file server version 3.6.6 which is
joined to a samba AD version 4.1.17. The problem is that I can't seem
to login using smbclient -L //172.16.0.229/itdev -U shemgp tothe file
server and the server displays the error:
winbind authentication for user [shemgp] FAILED with error
NT_STATUS_WRONG_PASSWORD
even if I use the correct password.

procmail --> deliver question
Hi there,
I use dovecot-1.1-rc4, got imap, imaps, pop3 & pop3s working fine with the mbox format.
I use sendmail-8.14.2 as an MTA, sendmail uses procmail as an LDA.
I migrated to maildir format now, and pipe all my mail to deliver right now to be able to make use of the indexing etc...
Problem is I run into some errors :

Fwd: Dynamic DNS Updates not working. samba_dnsupdate : (sambalist: message 3 of 20) RuntimeError: (sambalist: to exclusive) kinit for [DC@Realm] failed (Cannot contact any KDC for requested realm)
Thank you for the answers Peter and Rowland and sorry to everybody for the
spam...switched to another e-mail address and hope my messages will arrive
only once from now on.
As I wrote in my first mail, Kerberos does work. I can successfully request
and list a ticket on the AC DC.

Fwd: Dynamic DNS Updates not working. samba_dnsupdate : RuntimeError: (sambalist: to exclusive) kinit for [DC@Realm] failed (Cannot contact any KDC for requested realm)
Good morning!
First of all thanks Rowland for the fast answer yesterday! I realized that
samba-technical might have been the wrong mailing list and switched it to
the normal samba users list (hopefully it worked, as it does get a bit
confusing with spamgourmets addresses!). Unfortunately the problem with
samba_dnsupdate remains after the changes.
I did changed the smb.conf, krb5.conf, and hosts

Debian Jessie AD DC w. BIND9 : DNS update fails for debian squeezy member server
I'm sorry it got confusing, changed the topic and I'll try to explain. I am
using Jessie on the DC. Server13 is a linux file server and domain member,
it is on squeeze. If possible, I do not want to upgrade it. The problem
here is, that it does not seem to generate a DNS record when joining the
domain and, after setting up the new smb.conf, the users aren't passed on
from winbind to

Trouble removing files in chrooted sftp
I just did a bit of testing on OpenBSD and there the above setup seems to
work and I can remove the files just fine over sftp.
So this thing should work but there's still something causing it to fail on
CentOS's side.
One difference between our CentOS and OpenBSD is that OpenBSD uses newer
openssh server. I looked through the release notes and didn't see any
changes related to

Errors related to Samba in httpd log!
Hello list
First and foremost to any developers listening - thank you for Samba - it
is just brilliant.
Apologies - this is a long post...
I am not getting complaints about logon problems from users but I have
noticed in /var/log/httpd/error_log, entries like the following for a few
users when their logon scripts map drives to shares. Looking back I can
see that it has been

Cannot change directory permissions
Hi Rowland,
yes I do have two separate config files for smbd/nmbd and winbindd.
You can tell winbindd to load a separate config file via the "-s" command line switch.
Therefore I set "WINBINDD_EXTRA_OPTS" in "/etc/default/sernet-samba" to "-s /etc/samba/winbindd.conf".
The "cached_login" option for pam is also set and working.
The problem was

Problems with bind9_dlz when rndc is reloaded
I've added logs (dirty and quickly):
logging {
channel "request" {
file "/var/named/named.run" size 10m;
print-time yes;
print-category yes;
severity debug;
};
category default { request; };
category security { request; };
};
Reload DNS service using systemctl once, twice, then restart Bind, reload
it using rndc and no complain about log file and
