samba Digest, Vol 132, Issue 25
I think the 6month period comes from the "tombstoneLifetime" attribute present under this DN. The default is 180 days. dn: CN=Directory Service,CN=Windows NT,CN=Services,CN=Configuration, BASEDN Can this value be reduced and wait for samba to purge the old deleted objects? Modifying this value has other implications as per AD docs but I wonder if it can be changed for a simple directory

creating an ubuntu package of version 4.1.0
Hi, to build an ubuntu-package of samba4.1.0, I'm using a slightly modified debian package-configuration from a previous version. I created a quilt-patch (attached to this email) that sets the DISABLE_NTDB var again, to solve dependency problems. It's compiling nicely now, but I still get this linker-error: default/source3/lib/util_58.o: In function `str_checksum':

TSIG error with server: tsig verify failure
Hello, I still receive this error in my log.samba and when running '/samba_dnsupdate --verbose --all-names'. Has this been fixed completely? Searching through the archives I see this post https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2013-February/090408.html. Using Samba 4.1.7 with Ubuntu Server 12.04. My understanding is the update still succeeds but the error is

Samba File Share Encryption How To?
Hello, Can someone please point me to documentation on encrypting a file share? Looking to have data created on a Windows workstation backed up and saved on a Samba file share across a WAN link. Currently using IPsec so I assume I'm good on the transport end? Thanks. -- -James

dns replication error due to deleted records
Today I noticed something that has been going on for some weeks: I have 2 dc, (dc1 and dc2) both debian buster with the distro provided samba (4.9.5), recently upgraded from stretch. samba-tool drs showrepl on dc2 says DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=samba,DC=wetron,DC=es Default-First-Site-Name\DC1 via RPC DSA object GUID: 89812346-9037-43b0-86ab-c5052f55125d

Unable to Set TTL for Name Server Record
I noticed when Samba initially created a NS it gave it a ttl=900. If I delete this record from my zone and create a new one. It gives the NS a ttl=0. Attempting to set using Microsoft DNS tools does not take. Can this be done any other way? Using samba-tool? Thanks. Rsync with folder redirection from samba share
Hello, I currently have users folders such as My Documents and Desktop redirected using a GPO. Could I use rsync with the same command used for sysvol replication to create a backup? For example "rsync -XAavz --delete-after" to another share? I would hope in the event of catastrophic loss I would have a backup copy for users. Is their a better way to do this? Thank you. --

Questions on Raising Functional levels
Does raising the domain level need to be done on all DC's running in the Forest or just one? How about the forest level? The wiki makes me believe only one is needed. Will rasing the functional levels prevent any samba4 version from joining the domain? I would like to raise my current 2003 level to 2008 to take advantage of the following features. * Advanced Encryption Standard (AES 128

TSIG error with server: tsig verify failure
when you read. : http://www.spinics.net/lists/samba/msg111972.html says: > >That output > ; TSIG error with server: tsig verify failure >is usually only seen when the internal DNS server is running. >It's a glitch, which can be ignored atm (all dyn. updates are done OK). > so if you dont want to see that error, switch to bind9_DLZ. Need a variant of rbind for datasets with different numbers of columns
Hello. I am looking for a function that will allow me to paste rows together without regard for the numbers of columns in the datasets to be joined. The only columns where it matters if they are aligned correctly are at the beginning - the rest of the columns represent differing numbers of ICD9 (disease) codes reported by each person(record) at a health visit. They are in no particular order.

Using fixtures inside migrations
Hi, I want to add data from a fixture file to a table inside a migration. I''ve saved the file in db/migrate/fixtures/countries.yml I guess I could just open the file, read the entries, and add them to the database using AR, but I''m hoping I can use Rails for all that. Also, if I have a file, say, with 200,000+ records, what would be the best method (performance-wise) to go
